Chapter 60

nActually, it wasn’t a sandbox love between her and Lu Boyan but the secretary looked highly satisfied after she made things up herself. Su Jianan did not want to explain too much. She drank a few mouths of porridge and put down her chopsticks and returned to lie down in the room.

nShe thought about it carefully and realized that there were many things Lu Boyan had not told her about in detail.

nShe had been taken hostage by a killer a few days ago and he had appeared at the scene. He brought people to save her when he found out that he had been surrounded. He happened to pass by the police station and picked her up after she worked through the night. Yesterday, he had come back early intentionally…

nHe had done all of these naturally and had never told her much about it. She was not a careful person and she would slowly forget things as time passed. But now that she pieced everything up together, she realized that Lu Boyan had already done many things for her.

nIf not for the special reason behind their marriage, she would almost think that Lu Boyan liked her.

nBut Tang Yulan had ordered him to take care of her. Lu Boyan was very obedient and he might just be doing what she said.

nSince he had not said anything, she should not think too much into it.

nAs for his momentary loss of control yesterday, forgot it. She would forgive him since he had left his dignity behind and gone to buy her sanitary pads.

nThe gnawing pain hit her again as she ruminated. Su Jianan slid into the blankets, hunched over and closed her eyes.

nShe vaguely heard the secretary making a call—

n“She ate a little… and went back to sleep… doesn’t look very comfortable. OK, rest assured. I’ll call if anything crops up.”

nShe should be calling Lu Boyan but why did he not call her directly?

nSu Jianan dozed off sleepily before she could think of an answer.

nIn the branch company of Lu Enterprises.

nLu Boyan asked after Su Jianan and then hung up and continued to work. He even ate lunch in the office.

nShen Yuechuan heard that Su Jianan was not feeling well and did not dare to speak nonsense. He worked steadily and hard to help Lu Boyan complete their work. They were busy until about six in the evening before their day of work was finally over.

nLu Boyan hurried back to the hotel before his file was even shut. The secretary said that Su Jianan had been sleeping since one in the afternoon and woke up twice to use the bathroom. She did not speak much and seemed to grow even more uncomfortable as time passed. However, she said she did not need to see a doctor.

nHe allowed the secretary to knock off and entered the room.

nSu Jianan did not switch on the light. Half the room was swathed in darkness while the other was lit by the light coming in from the French windows. She was sleeping in the dark on the large and soft bed. Her dark and thick lashes were closed and her complexion seemed even paler than the sheets. She seemed even weaker than she had been in the morning.

nThe Little Monster seemed to be heavily injured and was on the brink of death.

nLu Boyan could not help but feel heartache. He squatted by the bed and asked, “Shall I send you to the hospital?”

nSu Jianan could hear him and knew that he had returned. She shook her head, “I don’t want to go…”

nShe did not like hospitals. Furthermore, she was not ill.

nLu Boyan pushed away the black hair on her forehead and asked gently, “Then get up, I’ll take you to have some food.”

nSu Jianan opened her eyes then. There was finally some shine in her black eyes as she asked, “What are we eating?”

n“We can have whatever you want.”

nThis was the first time Lu Boyan was indulging in her so directly. It was as if Su Jianan had been given a free pass to be whimsical. Countless delicacies from G City floated into her mind. In the end, her appetite won the war against the pain in her lower abdomen. She heaved herself up, combed her somewhat messy long hair and followed Lu Boyan out of the door.

nShe had not expected to have overestimated herself. She felt something gushing out of her just as she reached the door. The pain grew sharper. Her legs weakened and she fell downwards. “Lu Boyan…” Even her voice was weak.

nLu Boyan saw that she was swaying and about to fall. He turned around and quickly caught hold of her. “Jianan!”

nSu Jianan felt weak. She tried to look into Lu Boyan’s eyes and saw that his deep-set eyes were not as cold as usual. Instead, there was anxiety in them.

nHe was worried for her like they said.

nShe wanted to see it more clearly to ascertain that she was not hallucinating. However, her eyelids grew heavier and heavier. Finally, everything went black and she could not feel anything anymore.

n“Su Jianan!”

nLu Boyan hugged her, feeling extremely worried. He knew that she had just fainted but he felt as if the world in his hands was slipping away.

nHe was afraid. He was afraid he would lose this person just like how he had lost his father forever when he was 16.

nThe private lift reached the first floor. He carried Su Jianan and exited the lift with quick steps. The hotel manager had seen him a few times and he had always been calm and elegant as if he had the entire world under his feet. But now, he cradled a person in his embrace carefully. His brows were furrowed and his eyes were so dark one could not see any emotions in them. But if one looked carefully, they would see the worry in his eyes.

nThe manager did not know what happened. He quickly got the driver to prepare the car and followed after them to open the car door for Lu Boyan.

nLu Boyan carried Su Jianan onto the car, “To the hospital. Get Shen Yuechuan to contact the hospital and make arrangements.”

n“Yes!”

nThe driver did not dare to waste a second. He stepped on the accelerator and the car, which had good performance car shot forward like an arrow and into the traffic. It sped past cars after cars toward the biggest private hospital in the city.

nLu Boyan cradled Su Jianan in his chest. He touched her hand and found that they were icy cold down to the tips. He took off his jacket and covered her with it. Then, he felt that it was not enough, and he hugged her even tighter.

nSu Jianan looked more like she was sleeping. She leaned against his chest obediently. Her breathing was faint and light as if she was a tired child.

nLu Boyan’s long fingers that had obvious joints touched her face. Only then did he allow the heartache he felt to show.

nIf possible, he was willing to bear the torture on her behalf and let her return to her lively self.

nShen Yuechuan had already made arrangements with the hospital. The best doctors and nurses were waiting. They received Su Jianan quickly and orderly the moment Lu Boyan’s car stopped and they sent her into the emergency room.

nShen Yuechuan saw Su Jianan’s color from behind the doctors and nurses. He made a tsk sound and said, “She looks rather pitiful. How did she fall so ill?” No wonder Lu Boyan’s frown was so tight it could squish a fly.

nActually, she was not ill. The presiding doctor called Lu Boyan into her office after the emergency treatment, telling him not to worry. “It must be an old problem that cannot be treated in a short time. Western medicine can only give her temporary relief from the pain. She has to slowly regulate it in the future.”

n“Why did this happen?” Lu Boyan asked.

n“This kind of situation is indeed rare. It is because she did not take care when she was younger.” The female doctor wrote a line of words on a post-it. “Go look for a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. This is the best TCM doctor in A City with the oldest credentials. Make an appointment after her period ends and have her pulse taken. This won’t happen after she regulates her body for half a year.”

nLu Boyan took the post-it and went to see Su Jianan in the ward.

nThe ward was white and was the same color as her face. They were both lifeless. She laid on the bed, the blankets only covering up to her chest. The shape of her collarbones was very obvious. Her neck was so slender it seemed fragile. He thought it was good looking in the past, but he only discovered now that she was thin. She was 1.67 meters but seemed weightless when he carried her.

nSu Jianan who was in deep sleep seemed to have sensed Lu Boyan’s gaze. Her long lashes fluttered and her eyes slowly opened.

nShew as very sensitive about hospitals. When she discovered she was in one when she regained consciousness, she struggled and tried to get up. Lu Boyan pressed her down and said, “You’re on a drip.”

nActually, the drip was just to give her an energy boost. She wanted to pull the needle out. “I want to go back to the hotel.”

nLu Boyan stopped her. “Go back once you’re done with the drip. Jianan, why are you so afraid of hospitals?”

nShe was so afraid and worried that he would leave the last time he sent her for a checkup at a hospital in the middle of the night. This time, she wanted to leave when she woke up to find herself in a hospital. She was obviously afraid of hospitals.

n“My mother died in a hospital.”

nSu Jianan still remembered when she was 15 where everything suddenly ended in the heavy sounds. The pungent smell of disinfectants of the hospital, the four white walls and the white cloth that covered her mother’s face. She looked just like she had fallen asleep, but the doctor said that she had passed away. She would never open her eyes again.

nAt that time, the despair in her heart was even greater than the whiteness in the entire world. For a long time after that, she often dreamed of large patches of white. When she saw the color white, she felt a sense of hopelessness about to engulf her.

nShe looked at Lu Boyan, almost pleadingly, and said, “We can go anywhere. I don’t want to stay in the hospital.”

n“You fainted from the pain. You have to stay until the drip is done.” Lu Boyan could not bear to look at her coldly. “Jianan, my father passed away in the hospital as well. The hospital is not the culprit that had taken them away. You cannot use this sort of excuse to escape from it.”

nSu Jianan knew that, but she would think of her mother’s death when she saw a hospital. She could not help but curl into her blankets and said, “How long more until the drip is done?”

n“Half an hour.” After a pause, Lu Boyan said softly, “I’ll keep you company here. Don’t be afraid.”

nSu Jianan’s eyes had regained its shine. Her dark eyes looked at Lu Boyan steadily as if he was a little foreign. Then, her gaze slowly returned to normal after a moment and she made a sound of ascent.

nShe would not deny it. Lu Boyan’s words had given her something to depend on.

nBefore she fainted, she tried hard to ascertain the worry in his eyes. Even though she could not find that hint of worry anymore when she stared at him, she could see that Lu Boyan really wanted to keep her company.

nThe nurse handed her a cup of warm water and a medicine sachet. She said, “It’s fast acting pain reliever.”

nThere were five or six pills. The biggest was about the size of a thumb and the smallest about the size of a grain of rice. They were all white. The smell of medicine wafted out the moment the package was opened. Su Jianan glared at them and curled into her blankets.

nShe was not afraid of heaven or earth, or gangsters. But she was afraid of bitterness. That was why the entire family would become chaotic when she fell ill as a child. Her mother, Su Yicheng and all the helpers in the house would try all the tricks up their sleeves to coax her to eat her medicine. But she always found a way to hide away. And if she could not hide, she would run away. If she got caught, she would hug Su Yicheng and cry since he doted on her and would not force her.

nHowever, Lu Boyan… did not seem as easy to convince as Su Yicheng…

nSu Jianan wanted to close her eyes and pretend to faint
