Chapter 116

nAlexander wanted to laugh a the serious and cold expression on the head maid’s face. He could feel her discomfort even without her face betraying her emotions.

nBut he was also curious about her words from before. He wanted to know what the head maid had meant by ‘newer model’ when she had talked with that other maid.

nThings were getting interesting around the Northern Republic and Alexander wanted to be someone who held the ropes of success.

nBesides, he had a feeling that knowing this information would save their side a lot of grief.

n“Since you have managed to sneak in this far into the Royal palace then you must be considered a criminal. But since I’m in a forgiving mood now, I’ll let this go. You should get out of the royal palace as soon as you can.”

nAlexander smiled at the ease of provocation. He had thought that it would be difficult to rile up a lady who had climbed such a difficult social ladder but maybe that was not the case.

nAs soon as he had seen the lady’s earring, everything made sense to him. There was only one reason a person from the Northern Republic would wear earrings in only one ear.

n“My lady, are you the successor of your noble house? It must have been difficult to come here and leave your home behind.”

n“What are you trying to say?”

n“Me? Nothing. I was just a little surprised to see a noble lady such as yourself be stuck as a head maid for the royal family.”

nMaybe Alexander’s tone was a little too mocking. The head maid looked a lot angrier than before.

nBut the angrier she would get, the more her tongue would loosen. Alexander had seen too many people in her position falter under the pressure.

n“It’s an honor for anyone to serve the royal family. Be it a noble or a commoner, we are all equal in front of the royal family.”

n“So you don’t deny that you are a nobel. And here I was wondering how long you would beast around the bush for.”

n“Get to the point here.”

nThe lady was getting impatient. Of course, it was also because Alexander was stalling her. But what could he do?

nHe had to allow Natasha a chance to get away and causing a problem in the Northern Palace was not his style.

nBut if he had to expose himself, he might as well get some useful information in the process.

n“My point is, what would the republican say if the news of your manipulation of the royal family got out. Or the news if you using your technology to clone the royal family for your one convenience.”

n“Don’t make absurd claims about things you have no proof about.”

n“Oh, but then why is your face turning so white, my lady? Don’t tell me! Are you afraid of me and the truth from coming out?”

nAlexander had to admit that it was a fun and thrilling feeling to be so on edge. The rush he got from threatening the head maid was a little addicting.

nHe would have to be careful to not get addicted to this feeling but he could not help himself.

n“You are such an eyesore. But it seems like your luck has run out as well. Guards, make sure he does not live this encounter.”

nDarn, Alexander had been careless. Just as he had been stalling for time, so had been the head maid.

nShe had made Alexander just long enough for the guards to arrive.

nWhat a cunning and dangerous lady the head maid was. She was unwilling to dirty her own hands but she had no problem using a borrowed sword to put an end to him.

n“Too bad. You tried to threaten me but you will never get a chance to do so. Now, say goodbye to your life.”

nThe lady turned her back to Alexander. It seemed like she had too much confidence in her guards to not even bother staying around to see the result.

nOr maybe she was too afraid to see the outcome.

nAnyway, it was a lucky break and the only reason Alexander was able to escape the ambush. He had no donut that he would have been killed had the head maid not gone away.

n===========================

nAurora ran through her chosen corridors with a purpose. She had chosen this route because that was the only way she would be able to encounter Natasha.

nShe knew that the princess would be headed to her rooms once the talk with her head maid was over.

nThe head maid would not be foolish enough to hard the princess openly. But Aurora was sure that the head maid would try something funny soon.

nThat was why Aurora was running as fast as she could to reach the princess.

nThankfully, she was not the only one looking around. Natasha seemed to be headed her way as well and Aurora would meet her in the next corridor.

nThe first thing Aurora spotted was the black hair and the frosty eyes of the northern princess running through the hallway.

nHer cold looks complimented the coldness of the corridor.

nThe second thing was a splash of silver behind the princess. It looked like a knife and Aurora quickly tackled the princess to get her out of the way.

nBecause Aurora had tackled the princess, the pair fell and the blade missed them. It landed a few feet away from the pair.

nBut the danger had just begun around them. The assassin that had dared to attack the princess in such an open manner was still around.

nAurora could not feel them with her current power and she could not check her system openly to compare.

n“Natasha, be alert. We are being targeted.”

nAurora was used to this feeling of being cornered but she was not sure how well Natasha will be able to adapt to it. The princess had lived a pretty sheltered life this far.

nBut the princess surprised Aurora by deciding to take the initiative to save her own life. She picked up the knife that had been used to attack her and positioned herself in a ready pose.

n“No. I won’t hide. They cannot kill me off so I’m the best bait. Besides, I have to learn to step up as well.”

nIt seemed like the princess had matured just a little bit more. The determined look in her eyes represented a hungry predator eying her prey.

nClaps sounded from the corridor in front of the pair and Aurora could hear footsteps headed her way.

n“Wow. Looks like a chick is trying to play brave. Unfortunately, you will not live to become a ‘golden hen’ after all.”

n
