Chapter 140

n“Is your body alright? I heard that you were not well the past few days.”
nAurora did her best to control her blush at Rex’s statement. She had no idea how to answer his curiosity so she chose to divert the topic.
n“I am alright. I hope everything is alright on your part as well. Is the academy doing alright? No problem with the children or the tower, right?”
nNow that Aurora’s body was feeling better, for the time being, Aurora quickly got back to work. There was a lot she had to look over and access.
nPassing the corruption onto a pseudo-human could only slow down the process but not eliminate the darkness. That was what Ava had said.
nBut even if Aurora did want to go looking for a Nymph or an Angle, now was not the time. With the academy’s position still unstable, Aurora needed to work hard.
n“The academy is alright. We managed to snap a few talented people to teach here so that is not a problem. However..”
nRex pushed a piece of paper in front of Aurora to have her look at it. Aurora’s face turned sour as soon as she picked it up.
n“So the tower is not going to pick a fight on its own and do it through the investigation. It seems like we will have to be extra careful these next few days.”
nAurora pushed the paper back on the table with a thoughtful look.
nThe paper was something that was issued by the tower and the last obstacle in her way to getting the academy recognized.
nIt was the first inspection that was performed by the tower and the cabinet once the academy was finished with its preparations.
nThis would be the final chance for the tower to be able to file a legal complaint and go against Aurora’s academy in a legal battle.
nIf things went wrong during this investigation the academy will be shut off. But even that was the best-case scenario.
nAt worst, the Rocx academy will be made to accept the tower as its head and become an ordinary academy.
nThat would be the only way to keep Rocx academy afloat in case of a failed inspection.
n“I’m sure the tower will try to interfere with his inspection. They have no intention of sharing their power and standing in this current world.”
n“On the other hand, if we can successfully go through this investigation, we will become a force to be reckoned with. Others will also want to become our allies.”
nRex’s words held the truth. The people in the shadows who were dissatisfied with the tower were looking for an opportunity to fight back. Rocx academy’s legal standing would provide them all with this opportunity.
nSo Aurora was sure that a lot of people had already reached out to Rex and offered him help regarding this matter.
n“Do you know who the investigator is? From your expression, it looks like you found out who it is but you’re not pleased about it.”
nAurora had known Rex for about forever. That was why she could tell that there was something that worried him.
n“Yes, I do know the identity of the investigator and I find it a problem. That woman is someone I don’t want to see again in my life.”
n“That woman? Do you mean it’s Lady Voile? Why would she want to be a part of this mess?”
nAurora felt shocked at the news. Never in her life would she have thought that the person in charge of the investigation would turn out to be Lady Voile.
nBut if someone had dug into Rex’s past, then it was easy to think why they chose Lady Voile. She and Rex did not have the best of relationship.
n“I’m sure the tower was behind this. They might have dug to see who I was related to and chosen her specifically. But why did that woman have to accept this order? Was it not enough that she tormented me in my childhood?”
n“Rex, calm down. She might not have been good to you but she is still your mother.”
n“Step-mother. I will never think of her as my mother. She drove my mother to her death and stole her spot. Both her and father, I will never forgive them as long as I live for.”
nThis was getting dangerous. Rex’s eyes held anger and despair. Aurora had thought that he had gotten past this part of him after some internal struggle.
nBut Aurora had not remembered that she had reminded time. Of course, Rex had not confronted his family in this timeline.
nStill, she could not allow him to remain in such a destructive mood.
n“REX! Rex calm down right now. I know it’s difficult to see that lady as your mother but you should not let your emotions cloud your judgment. For now, she’s just an inspector we have to get through.”
nAurora was not sure how effective her words would be against Rex. But it was a relief to see that the elder was calming down after hearing her words.
n“You are right. I should not be so on edge about this topic. She is just another woman for now. But you should hide for the duration of her visit. It won’t be good if she recognized you and the news got back to your parents.”
n“Because unlike that woman and my father, your family is a little…”
n“..Troublesome.”
nAurora chose not to comment. Her family was not something she had wanted to talk about, especially after her rebirth.
nIf possible, Aurora would want to never see them again as well. Just the thought of going back to that place terrified her.
n“You are right. I should stay out of sight. Then, I will leave all the preparations up to you for the investigation.”
nAurora felt like such a coward for running away from her responsibilities but she refused to let her emotions sway her decision.
nBut now that she had made a decision to stay out of sight, she would need to prepare. There was a lot she needed to do now and the most important was to make sure the people kept their mouths shut about her.
n“Just my luck. Out of one trouble and directly into another. I better go and have a talk with Ava as well about what I saw in Natasha’s past. I feel like I should know what that was about.”
nSuddenly, a lot of things were happening at once around Aurora and she felt like she was being led around by some invisible force.
nWhat was it that the abyss wanted from her anyway?
n
