nChapter 16
nAnhao ate to her heart’s content and took a nap in the afternoon, by the time she woke up it was already 5pm.
nHer phone rang at 6pm on the dot, she quickly ran out from the bathroom and picked up her phone, “Hello! Boss! I’ll be there soon!”
n“Anhao! Why didn’t you come back last night? Your bag in the private room was taken, what about the money for that five bottles of alcohol? What’s going on? I don’t suppose you’re trying to run off with the money are you?”
n“Err, wait for me and I’ll explain to you, I’m on my way!”
nAfter she hung up she returned to the bathroom quickly, and she looked at herself in the mirror. No matter how the blow dryer dried her hair, she could not style it like the wig she had from before.
nAfter working at it for more than half an hour, she did not have time to put her makeup on, finally she gave up on her hair, and wanted to put on her makeup first.
nHowever, as she ran out of the bathroom, she heard the sound of the door opening.
nZuo Hancheng entered via the door, first he saw Anhao with messy hair, and his gaze fell upon the bags of chips on the coffee table and sofa from the corner of his eyes.
nHe once again looked around, the entire house had become like a disaster film in just one day.
nAs for the culprit that had caused this, she was stunned behind the sofa seeing him return without a moment’s notice. Without knowing what to do she lifted her small hands and greeted him stiffly, smiling brightly. “Hi, you’re back? Did you just come back from work?”
nIn less than one day, the house was ruined by her and it looked like a battlefield, as for her, she had cleaned herself up, was fresh out from the bath, had tidy clothes on, and was obviously about to go out.
nZuo Hancheng walked across the trashed living room, and after seeing the bags of empty junk food left on the sofa, he lifted his hand and massaged between his brows. “You’re going out?”
n“Uhh…” Anhao stuttered ambiguously.
nSeeing her acting so guiltily, Zuo Hancheng’s perfect forehead slightly pulsed, he did not ask her where she was going. “Clean up before you leave.”
nAnhao looked up in shock. “Now?”
n“Unless you want to sleep in filth.”
n“But I’m in a hurry!”
nHowever, Zuo Hancheng did not say another word to her as he hung his coat that he was holding on his arm on the rack at the entrance. He looked down and saw two pairs of her shoes at the entrance that were haphazardly thrown on the ground.
nAnhao wanted to object at first, but as she looked down and saw the house that was supposed to be clean and tidy become so messy because of her in under a day, though she was in a hurry, she knew she was at fault.
nShe could only bend down and start picking up the trash on the sofa unwillingly, she lifted her head and saw that Zuo Hancheng had noticed that her shoes were thrown at the entrance, she quickly ran over, and arranged them properly before he got angry.
nAfter that, under those icy cold eyes, she turned around and went back to the living room and the bedroom to clean up the disastrous aftermath that she had caused.
nIt took about an hour and a half before the bedroom and living room were back to their original state. She was so exhausted that she did not feel like going out, but seeing that it was nearly 7:30 pm, without saying anything else, she turned to grab her bag and took out her makeup bag. She sat in the living room and wanted to do her makeup quickly.
nHer makeup bag was suddenly taken away by someone.
nShe immediately lifted her eyes and saw that Zuo Hancheng had taken a bath when she was cleaning up the house and had just come out. “What are you doing? I cleaned up the rooms!”
nZuo Hancheng noticed that the bag was filled with nothing but low-quality makeup and some metallic jewelry, and he threw them into the trash bin without hesitation.
nAnhao stood up to stop him, but as soon as she stood up she was enveloped by the clean fragrance of body soap from the man, those curses that were at the corner of her mouth were swallowed back abruptly.
nStill, she raised her gaze angrily, like a kitten that had someone stepped on its tail, how she wished she could bite him to death.
nZuo Hancheng pressed on the girl’s head, he knew that she was about to vent at him, and his big palm gently patted her hair.
nHe seemed to know why she was angry, and chose the right time to soothe the tail he had stepped on before it turned into a fight. “What I told you yesterday, have you forgotten? You’re not allowed to go to the bar.”
nAnhao balled her hands into fists, making cracking sounds. “No one has ever controlled me! Who do you think you are!”
nZuo Hancheng replied as if he did not hear a word she said, “Get rid of all these junk food and things unrelated to your academics in your bag.”
nAnhao remembered that there was still a box of fake eyelashes and a temporary hair curler in her bag, after hearing him say that she subconsciously turned to protect her bag, but was a second too late.
nSeeing those random objects in her bag, that so-called school bag that did not even have a single book inside, Zuo Hancheng’s expression became so dark it was hard to describe.
n“Hey! Hey! Don’t throw them away!
n“Hey! Zuo Hancheng! Don’t throw them away, I still need them… You…”
nEver since yesterday, all of Anhao’s stuff had been completely revealed to him, for a moment, she felt like she was standing fully exposed in front of a stranger, not knowing what to do, not having any sense of security.
nAll the things that she had relied on and used as a disguise for five years were being thrown away one by one, Anhao swallowed her frustration and said through gritted teeth, “Zuo Hancheng, why did you marry me!”
n“Do you not remember what happened a month ago?”
n“I remember! I even recall that nothing happened between you and me! It was just Gu Shishi and the others that tried to put the blame on me to force me into a dead end!”
nAnhao glared at him. “You knew that they were not kind people! Why did you agree? Since I’m so imperfect and unreliable, and since you dislike me so much, why did you still marry me?”
nZuo Hancheng threw her empty bag to the sofa beside her, looked at her for a moment, before his voice that was as cool as clear spring sounded, “I was passing through a mud swamp, saw a little kitty that had fallen into a puddle of mud and almost drowned. Do I save it, or do I not?”
nAnhao could not remember when was the last time she cried, but she did not know why, her eyes felt hot.
nShe bit her lips and muttered, “Now that you have saved me, do you need to be so serious about it?”
nZuo Hancheng did not look at her again, and he went to the kitchen.
nAnhao’s gaze followed his silhouette, and she heard him say to her lightly with his back to her, “When the little kitty was saved, mud was stuck on its eyes, it couldn’t see the path in front and it had lost its direction. It just so happened that I had some time, and I was feeling somewhat compassionate, so I brought the little kitty home and cleaned it up, that’s all.”
nIt was a metaphor that could not have been clear enough, it had completely blocked all the unwillingness and angry hurls at the corner of her mouth.
nShe glared at Zuo Hancheng’s silhouette, moved her lips, as if wanting to say something, but abruptly withheld herself.
nIt had been five years since anyone had ever controlled her, no one knew what happened to her five years ago, and no one would care if her eyes were blinded and that she was lost, no one would care whether she would be able to find her way in life.
nIn her eyes, the present and the future were the same, it was just a grayish fog, living day by day, there was nothing to hope for and look forward to.
n
