nChapter 29

nAfter Yi Zeyang smoothly went abroad, Yiwei suddenly changed his attitude toward the mother and daughter. Not long ago, he found out who Anhao’s biological father was. In those two years, the Yi family broke off their agreement with the F government due to some real estate business problems. They were mortal enemies with the Land Bureau Manager, Gu Tianming, at that time, and because of many other reasons, the Yi family could not allow the mother and daughter to stay. They even suspected that they were the reason that the business in the Yi family was not doing as well—that Anping was a spy sent by Gu Tianming.

nIn those few years, the city’s business and administration world were in deep distress. Everyone could barely look out for themselves and were cautious of everyone around them. Anping was forced to divorce Yiwei, and the mother and daughter were chased out of the Yi family.

nAt that time, Anhao did not know that her life would have such a big change. She only remembered one day, after her mom came back from the hospital, her face was pale, as if she was gravely ill. She did not understand what was written on her mother’s diagnosis, she could only pick out some words such as ‘malignant’ and ‘tumor’. After that, her mother suddenly brought her to the Gu family. She revealed the truth to Gu Tianming and asked him to take his daughter in, but he refused.

nAfter a few days of negotiation, Gu Tianming still would not admit that he had an illegitimate child which was Anhao, until Anping took Anhao to the Gu family with a DNA testimonial. She forced Gu Tianming to raise her daughter, at least until she graduates from university. Anping was just there to discuss the terms. She wanted Anhao to have a home to return to, but Mrs Gu and Gu Shishi both were also in the house at that time. All hell broke loose in the Gu family. As Anping tried to reason with Gu Tianming upstairs, Gu Tianming, who was utterly livid and humiliated, accidentally pushed her down the stairs.

nThat day, the fourteen-year-old Anhao blankly stood downstairs. She saw her mother come tumbling down the stairs, and saw blood dripping from her head with the DNA testimonial tightly gripped in her hands until her very last breath.

nIn the end, Anping used her own life in exchange for Gu Tianming’s acknowledgement of their blood relation. To hide his accidental murder, he had no choice but to let Anhao stay.

nFrom then on, Anhao became Gu Anhao.

nThe cute and obedient little princess slowly became who she was in the present.

n***

nThe next day, Anhao caught a high fever because she was under the cold rain for two hours the day before. As such, she finally took sick leave and slept in bed all day.

nChunchun and Huang Amao brought her some medicine and minced meat porridge when they returned in the afternoon, but she seemed to be suffering from high fever. She could not eat anything and even threw up after two bites.

n“Let’s just go to the school infirmary.” Huang Amao could not watch any longer.

nAnhao shook her head. “I don’t wanna go.”

nAfter saying so, she went back under her blanket.

nChunchun brought her some warm water and said, “By the way, since you didn’t go to class today, you might’ve missed a really big thing, Anhao.”

n“Yeah, she’s right. Today, the two Xu bastards’ parents broadcasted their apology to you and also explained about you hitting their sons! When did you have such a persuasive power? I can’t believe they’re apologizing to you in front of everyone without caring about their reputation. This is a miracle.”

nWho else would have this much power? That man, Zuo Hancheng, had almost all of the Xu family’s business in his palms. She did not think that the parents of the Xu family would really apologize in front of everyone. Since they were willing to apologize now, then she did not need to wonder what Zuo Hancheng’s identity was. It was clearly apparent that she had, with all the luck and coincidence in the world, met a final-level boss. One who had solved everything in such a cool and swift manner.

nAt night, Anhao did not even have the strength to stand up. Everything was spinning and she felt nauseated. This was the first time in her life her fever had gotten so serious, but it was all her own fault. She knew that it was raining but she still paced in the cold rain for so long. She planned to clear her mind but she ended up getting sick. All she felt right now was a lifetime of regret for having done that.

nChunchun went downstairs with the excuse of buying medicine for her. After a short while, she came back with a few boxes of medicine in her hands.

n“That fast?” Amao asked.

nChunchun looked at Anhao who was lying on the bed. “When I went out, I coincidentally met Mr Yi. After I told him about your condition, he gave me these medicines.”

nAfter hearing Chunchun’s explanation, Anhao turned to look at her. “I knew you would blabber.”

nThe corner of Chunchun’s mouth twitched. “Please, I was doing you a favour. Mr Yi directly called his assistant to buy medicine outside the school and bring them over. It cost me nothing to bring them to you. Mr Yi also said…”

nShe saw Anhao turn pale to the point where she almost looked transparent, and she continued, “If Anhao’s condition worsens at midnight, and if she insists on not going to the hospital, he wants me to give him a call and we will carry you out. He said that he’ll bring you to the hospital.”

nAnhao closed her eyes. Geez, this love-struck idiot Chunchun, she was so unreliable!

n“If it weren’t for him being the lecturer that was invited to our school recently, even if the dorm lady didn’t allow any men to enter the female dorm, I think he would still take you away directly. Of course, Mr Yi hopes that rumors won’t spread because of such a thing, so he will wait for you downstairs at the dorm.”

nAnhao was unwilling to listen further. She turned around and buried herself in her bed, once again turning into a hermit, covering herself with her blanket.

n***

nThe next day, Anhao’s fever had gone down a little, but it was still near thirty-nine degrees. She insisted on not going to the school infirmary and was also unwilling to go to the hospital. She claimed that she was just fighting against the virus and there was no need to go to the hospital.

nAnd so she dragged it on for another day. Until the sky had turned dark, Anhao then finally woke up. She opened her eyes and looked outside at the sky. She realized that Chunchun and Huang Amao did not rest properly just to look after her, so she decided to recuperate in another place.

nAfter all, she had the keys to Liujing Gardens. Zuo Hancheng had yet to return from abroad so she planned to go back.

nAfter an hour, Anhao was out of the school. The moment she walked out of the school gate, she suddenly heard someone’s voice behind her.

n“Oh, if it isn’t Gu Anhao? Didn’t see you in class these few days. What happened? Looking for another backer to support you? Is it so natural for you to skip classes?”

nHearing the voice, Anhao turned back and saw the two little bastards, Xu Guanda and Xu Chengjun.

nShe rolled her eyes. “Didn’t your parents broadcast their apology in front of the whole school for you? What’s wrong? You guys haven’t had enough of my beating, huh?”

n“F*ck you. Let me tell you something, Gu Anhao. You don’t even look like a girl. Did it feel good forcing and shaming my parents in school?”

nAnhao turned around disapprovingly. Her head was spinning and she felt nauseous. She did not plan to reason with them anymore.

nWhen Gu Anhao walked to the side of the road and was about to take the bus, Xu Guanda and Xu Chengjun glared intently at her. Revenge flashed across their eyes as they sneered. They turned around, made a call and spoke in a deep voice, “Hello? Gu Anhao took bus no. 9. I don’t know which direction she’s going toward. You guys keep an eye on her. We’ll get her tonight.”

n“Let’s see if she will still act so arrogantly tomorrow! Wasn’t she able to save Hanru? Let’s see how she’s gonna get herself out of this now!”

n
