Chapter 23 - Manla came back
After the water was boiled, Gu Yan turned off the gas.
She opened a box of instant noodle and poured boiled water.
Gu Yan felt frustrated since she fell out with Wen Yunfeng.
She got up at noon, ate noodles and went to the hospital in the afternoon. Her grandmother would go back home several days later. She decided to spend much time accompanying her as much as possible.
After her parents divorced, Grandma was nice to her and took responsibility to raise her up. Later her father died of illness and left her with her grandmother.
“I haven’t seen Yunfeng for a long time, why didn’t he come to see me?” Grandma asked. Gu Yan could only lie to her, which made her felt guilty.
She was in a daze after made the noodles, the mobile phone rang at this moment.
She went to the room and picked up the phone. It was from Manla.
“Hi, Gu Yan, Gu Yan!” Manla spoke in an enthusiastic voice.
“Manla, you back?” On hearing Manla’s voice, Gu Yan smiled.
“Yes, I will come back tomorrow.” It sounded Manla was a little bit tired.
“Great!” She was delightful to have a good listener.
“How are you doing? What happened you called me last time?”
“I will tell you when we meet.” Gu Yan became uncomfortable suddenly.
“Okay, see you tomorrow.” Manla noticed the attitude of Gu Yan.
“Ok.”
They met each other at a coffee shop in the next day.
Manla showed up after Gu Yan waited for a while.
“Hi, Gu Yan!” Manla gave her a big hug since they haven’t seen each other for a long time.
“Manla, it is great to see you! You are a little emaciated.” Manla was plump with a perfect figure before.
“Well, there was nothing delicious during the business trip. I haven’t eaten well for a long time.” Manla had little interest in a place where no delicious to eat.
“What happened to you? Was it about Wen Yunfeng? I told you that you should divorce him. You have done so much for him, but he had an affair with other women. Does he deserve it? You are too naïve and never listen to me.” Manla shook her head.
“I… I have decided to divorce him.” Then she would be free after divorce.
“Really? It’s great! Aha! You made that decision!” Manla felt happy for Gu Yan. They were close friend for many years. Manla was an passionate girl while Gu Yan was quiet. The differences enhanced their friendship.
Gu Yan was the child bride of Wen Yunfeng. They were childhood sweethearts. Manla knew it and felt jealous of her in the past. But Wen Yunfeng changed his attitude to Gu Yan since two years ago. Manla felt very angry about what Wen Yunfeng did.
She persuaded Gu Yan to divorce Wen Yunfeng for many times. But Gu Yan wished that Wen Yunfeng would change his view. Manla could only offer some comfort. “There must be something happened to help Gu Yan make her decision.” Manla thought.
“Yeah, I finally figured it out.” Gu Yan said sadly.
“Tell me what happened.”
“The relationship of childhood sweetheart can’t stand the test of reality. I did everything for him but resulted in his indifference. He thought I was lascivious!” Gu Yan was completely disappointed at Wen Yunfeng. She had borne enough sarcasm and ridicule during the past two years. Then she told Manla what happened to her recently.
“What?! Shame on him! Did you do what he said? Were you all right?” What a lunatic man!
“Yes, but someone helped me out.” Gu Yan felt appreciative and regretful. She was indebted to him for helping her out and felt regretful that she forgot his look, except for his shadow and side face.
“That’s good, that’s good! And you are too silly. How could you promise him?” It was lucky that nothing terrible happened to her.
“It’s gone.” She wanted to forget all the things after telling Manla. Then she was free from sorrow.
“What’s your plan next?” Manla worried about Gu Yan.
“I don’t know. Just let it go.” Gu Yan was inactive recently and had no idea about the future. “Things will eventually sort themselves out.” She thought.
“Well, don’t be sad. Let’s go to have a drink.” Manla asked Gu Yan to go out for a release.
“What? Have a drink?” She had low tolerance for alcohol.
“Come on! Let’s enjoy it!” Manla pushed her to go outside, ignoring her hesitation.
Then they went to the bar.
Gu Yan felt inadaptable to surroundings. If Manla weren’t here, she would slip away. The bar was boisterous with dancing people.
Gu Yan felt grieved and drank heavily, though it tasted awful.
She was a wimpy drinker and felt drunk after a while.
Everything went around before her. She began to see everything doubling and started to laugh.
Manla saw Gu Yan was smirking, “She really was a lightweight. Fine, it doesn’t matter.”
Manla shook her head with the Sprite in her hand.
On the other side of the bar,
Wen Yunfeng sat beside the bar and felt very depressed. He drank liquor bottle by bottle but still couldn’t forget his worries. He really wished the company would in the right track tomorrow after he was drunk.
