Chapter 285 - Fever
I called Lin Ran because I needed his help to save a life.
Lin Ran complained, “I’m an orthopedic doctor!”
I countered, “You’re still a doctor, right? Or do you have any doctors or nurses around you who know how to treat a fever? Do you know why you don’t have a girlfriend? You don’t know how to use your brain!”
“Nanxing, at the very least, I’m half your tutor! How can you be so rude to me?”
“Master Lin Ran, human life is at stake. Just tell me if you’re coming or not. But if you don’t come, I will go and cry outside your room tomorrow. I’ll tell everyone that you refused to save my sister! She died because of you!”
“Did I say I wouldn’t go? Did I owe you in my previous life or something?” Lin Ran huffed.
“That’s right, you must have owed me big in my previous life. But instead of hounding you, I have provided you with a chance to heal a patient and collect good karma. Haven’t I been good enough to you…” Before I finished, the man already hung up.
I grabbed the cup of water on the table and gulped it down. I needed it to suppress my anger. I knew that I was being unfair to Lin Ran.
I sent a message to Qu Hao. “Mrs. Mai had Mai Qi marry Shi Feng.”
The reply came instantly. “If she doesn’t want to, no one can force her!” I was relieved.
Lin Ran came over with the doctor and nurse.
I held the gift box high above my head. “Master, this is a small token of my respect for you. Please accept it!”
Lin Ran was stunned. I knew he was about to scold me but his words were stuck in his throat. His expression was funny. The young doctor and nurse behind him were shocked.
Lin Ran took the gift box resentfully. He opened it and immediately broke into a smile. “Where’s the patient?”
I quickly brought them to Mai Qi’s room. Sister Li was helping Mai Qi by wiping her sweat and cooling her with warm towels. The doctors and nurse took over and chased us out.
I left Mai Qi with them and rushed to class. Jing Tian was not home for the past few days. I knew he was busy with Ardent Flame Alliance. I never asked him about the details but if I wanted to, I could ask Su Qian, Su Shen, or Brother Gao Da, they never hid anything from me.
I was deeply troubled by what happened to Mai Qi. After class, I ran into Gu Nian.
“Long time no see.” I went to greet him.
Gu Nian’s smile was brighter than the sun. “Long time no see, Nanxing.”
“Did you come to see me on purpose?” I asked. Our working relationship had ended. Jing Tian had expressed plainly that he did not like Gu Nian after the latter’s confession to me so I stayed away from Gu Nian.
But that did not mean we stopped being friends.
He nodded. “I just came back from a business trip. I need to talk to you.” He looked around me. “Where’s Miss Mai Qi?”
“She’s sick so she didn’t come to class,” I answered truthfully.
Gu Nian nodded. “I want to tell you something about her.”
I nodded. “Okay, let’s find a place to talk then.”
At the cafe near the university entrance, Gu Nian took a sip of the coffee and whispered to me, “Nanxing, you’re being followed.”
I shrugged, “It’s okay, my people are nearby.”
Gu Nian smiled wryly. “Nanxing, I really need to compliment you on your courage.”
I smiled. “Master Liu, you better compliment me on my ignorance. I’m that courageous because I don’t know what I’m dealing with.”
Gu Nian smiled. “Nanxing, you’re such a treasure.”
