Chapter 60 - Quick Change of Expression

n

nLu Gan put away his phone silently. He had no idea if Song Ci really liked him! However, it did not matter. He would not let her get hurt in this marriage. Song Ci was like a gift from heaven. He was willing to do anything for her, as long as she did not bring any harm to him and Lu Suo.

n

nWhen they got home, Lu Gan went into the study room. Song Ci followed him and asked, “Can I read a book in the study room as well?”

n

nLu Gan nodded.

n

n“Of course. You don’t have to ask permission from me when it comes to such menial matters.”

n

nSong Ci’s mood instantly improved. Subconsciously, she felt a sense of belonging in this place.

n

nLu Gan saw her smiling and asked, “You’re happy because you’re married to me, right?”

n

n“Do I look happy?”

n

nSong Ci asked with a straight face.

n

n“Aren’t you? You’ve been smiling ever since you came back!”

n

nLu Gan teased.

n

nSong Ci replied, “I just tend to smile naturally. It has nothing to do with my mood.”

n

n“You don’t have to explain. I understand. You’ve been in love with me for so many years. Now that you’ve gotten what you wanted, you’re obviously elated.”

n

nSong Ci turned her head, indicating that she did not want to talk to him.

n

nLu Gan chuckled and lowered his head to deal with his own matters.

n

nSong Ci noticed that Lu Gan had been busy every day. She felt that it was a little strange.

n

n“Didn’t you leave your post? Why are you always so busy? Do you have other jobs?”

n

nLu Gan raised his head to look at Song Ci.

n

n“If I don’t do anything, how am I supposed to support you?”

n

nSong Ci honestly thought that he would just lead a retiree’s life. After all, according to the original plot, his health continued to worsen ever since the car accident. In less than a year, he would have died. Besides, Lu Gan was loaded. He really did not have to work!

n

n“You’re amazing.”

n

nSong Ci said sincerely.

n

nLu Gan smiled.

n

n“Of course I am. If you’re the only one working and earning money, you’ll despise me for being a cripple. Won’t I be miserable if you’ve decided to leave me?”

n

nSong Ci laughed at his words.

n

n“Am I that kind of person?”

n

nLu Gan sighed.

n

n“If I don’t work hard, my wife will be bullied. This is all for your sake.”

n

nUpon hearing this, Song Ci’s face immediately turned red. She could feel her ears burning.

n

n“I’m not going to just hide behind a man. I’ll work hard too.”

n

nLu Gan laughed.

n

n“We’re married now. Shouldn’t you be relying on me?”

n

nSong Ci lowered her head.

n

n“I still want to work hard.”

n

n“You can do it.”

n

nLu Gan laughed.

n

nSong Ci’s face turned even redder. She excused herself by saying, “I’m going to find a book to read!”

n

n“Go ahead.”

n

nLu Gan was very generous.

n

nSong Ci looked through his bookcase and thought of something. She turned around and asked, “Is your job very secretive?”

n

nLu Gan slightly nodded.

n

n“My friends know a little but not my family.”

n

n“Don’t worry. I’ll keep it a secret.”

n

n“Okay.”

n

nLu Gan’s phone rang just as he finished speaking. He glanced at the caller ID and his expression turned impatient. Regardless, he still answered the call. On the other end, Lu Hongyong’s angry voice could be heard.

n

n“Did you seriously marry that woman?!”

n

nLu Gan said calmly, “Of course.”

n

n“I don’t approve!”

n

nLu Hongyong roared furiously.

n

n“I do.”

n

nLu Gan did not care at all.

n

nLu Hongyong was almost angered to death by his words.

n

n“Do you think your late brother will be happy with your actions?”

n

nLu Gan sneered, “I wish he could see my condition. Can you bring him back to life? He’s already dead, so why do you keep bringing him up?! Don’t you think that I have suffered enough?! Do you want me to relieve that incident again?!”

n

n“Pa!”

n

nHe hung up the phone.

n

nSong Ci looked at him and was momentarily speechless. She put down the book she was holding and slowly walked towards Lu Gan’s desk. At this moment, she just wanted to comfort him. However, before she could open her mouth, Lu Gan’s expression had already reverted back to normal.

n

n“Did any books catch your attention?”

n

nAfter saying that, he smiled. Then, he continued in a relaxed tone, “My dear wife… After picking for such a long time, you still preferred me, right?”

n

nSong Ci promptly turned around and headed back to the bookcase!

n

n‘I must be crazy to think that he needs comforting! He’s a better actor than me!’

n

nThe corners of Lu Gan’s eyes widened into a smile again. Teasing Song Ci was so much fun! He purposely said, “Are you shy?”

n
