Chapter 227

Did she just say ‘wife’? Wife? How was it possible?!

Zhao Xi was so shocked that her hold on Lu Xinyi’s hand loosened, and it fell back to the soft mattress of the bed. She just stared down at Lu Xinyi, her head slightly turning as she blinked repeatedly. Her mouth gaped at her patient. She had heard her right.

“Truly?” she dared to ask.

“Yes.” Lu Xinyi confirmed.

A long silence ensued before Zhao Xi abruptly stood up and squealed like a teenage girl who just happened to see her crush in the hallway. Lu Xinyi sat up and winced when she accidentally nudged her swollen foot.

“Oh my god! This is a miracle.” Zhao Xi sobbed dramatically. “I can’t believe it! Our little Shen Yi is already taken. Wait! Let me post in our group chat!”

She suddenly got excited and took her phone while Lu Xinyi could only shake her head. She just laid back on the bed and closed her eyes for a moment of peace. She desperately needed some rest after her intense battle in Silver Leaf. -.

When Zhao Xi noticed the unusual silence, she turned—only to find Lu Xinyi taking a quick nap. She smiled and let her sleep.

Two hours later, Lu Xinyi woke up and found her husband sitting at the edge of the bed, waiting for her to wake up while talking with Zhao Xi. She couldn’t understand what they were talking about, but based on Zhao Xi’s reaction, she probably was chastising Shen Yi for not telling her about their marriage.

“You’re awake,” Shen Yi said the most obvious thing within the room.

Zhao Xi beamed a smile at her direction.

“You’ll need at least two to three days of rest. Make sure don’t put pressure on your foot. I already have given Shen Yi your prescription medicines.”

“Are you sure she will be fine, Zhao Xi?” Shen Yi interrupted.

“Of course, Shen Yi! Don’t you trust me? She’s fine. Nothing’s broken, and she will get better soon so don’t be a worry wart to your wife.” Zhao Xi slapped his arm.

“Thank you, Doctor Zhao.”

Lu Xinyi was placed back to the wheelchair before Zhao Xi led the couple to the VIP exit. Before Shen Yi set his wife to the backseat of his car, Zhao Xi handed her phone number to Lu Xinyi, telling her to call her if she needed some help.

“Still tired?” Shen Yi wrapped an arm around his wife, his thumb rubbing her shoulder. Lu Xinyi leaned on his body and hummed softly.

“Yes, I can’t wait to sleep at home. My back and shoulders are aching,” she murmured kindly, her head settling back onto his chest—with her eyes meeting his.

“Then it’s a good thing that I rescheduled your party.”

“Party? What party?”

“Dad and Grammie wanted to throw you a celebration party for passing Silver Leaf’s exam. They’re too excited for you to come home, but I told them you aren’t feeling good so they should move the party for tomorrow. Is that alright with you?”

“Thank you. I don’t think I can enjoy the party if I still feel pain on my foot, and I need some rest before I face them.”

She felt his arm pulling her closer to him while he adjusted in his seat to bring their heads closer together. Lu Xinyi assisted him by pushing herself up to rest her head on his shoulder before his lips met hers for a brief kiss.

“Have I told you how awesome you are earlier?” His lips moved to her rich locks and planted a chaste kiss on her crown.

“Not yet.” She giggled. “But I’m worried, Shen Yi. One of the reporters earlier spilled that I’m from the Sun family. Will this bring problems to you?”

“That man? He isn’t a reporter or member of any press club. Qiao He has taken a look at him, and he wasn’t included at the list of media personnel that Silver Leaf invited.”

Lu Xinyi’s frown deepened. That man was planted by Sun Feiyan to leak her family background?

“Sun Feiyan told me to go back. I don’t understand her motive at all! I thought all she wanted was to become the Young Miss of the Sun family, and now that I’m out of the picture, why is she eager to take me back?”

Shen Yi didn’t respond. He knew that both cousins shared an anathema to each other. Sun Feiyan’s motive was beyond his understanding. Unless, of course, that Sun Feiyan was trying to do some damage control that the Sun family may receive from him in the future.

Sun Ruying had lost her precious business when she dared to hurt his woman. What could Sun Feiyan possibly do to save her family from damnation? If they continued to plot schemes against his wife, it was only a matter of time until the Sun family comes down from their ivory tower and learns that their own misfortunes were their fault.

“Are you going to listen to her?” he asked.

“Me? Listen to Sun Feiyan?” Lu Xinyi snorted and rolled her eyes. “I’ll do that when hell freezes over!”

“You talk and worry too much.” Shen Yi chuckled lightly as his wife pulled away from his arms.

“So? What are you going to do about it?” she challenged back.

“Then I’m going to keep that mouth of yours busy with something else besides talking.”

Suddenly, he bent swiftly; and his lips were against hers in a violent, passionate, and deep kiss. At once, Lu Xinyi struggled to be free, knowing that her husband liked to play and fight for dominance against her. Her fists thumped at his chest but then held by his one hand and pulling her closer as his tongue plunged hotly in her mouth. His other hand buried on her long locks, holding her in place.
