Chapter 99

nThere was an impregnable silence between the two families as they stared blankly at each other. The only thing that could be heard was Lu Xinyi’s faint sobs as she clung on Xiao Lan’s arm as she tried to lift herself from the floor.

nBad idea. As soon as she tried to steady herself, the small amount of weight she added to her injured foot caused her to fall forward.

n“Xinxin!” Xiao Lan wrapped her arms around Lu Xinyi’s shoulder to support her.

nWithout breaking her gaze on Sun Ruying, Madam Shen acknowledged her fuming grandson behind her.

n“Don’t waste your time. Help her. I’ll deal with this.”

nLooking at Lu Xinyi sprawled on the floor, Madam Shen was pained. Lu Xinyi was the wife of her grandson. How could Sun Ruying slap her in their own territory?-.

nWhen Shen Yi saw his wife with an injured foot, hair covering the red mark on her face, he immediately realized what happened and burst into anger. His eyes blazing with rage. How dare these women to bully his wife while he wasn’t around? They must be tired to live as they’re seeking their own deaths.

nLu Xinyi’s condition was their utmost priority at this moment. Madam Shen was aware of his intentions, but she would rather be the one who would deal with them than him. Shen Yi moved forward and took his wife from Xiao Lan’s arms.

nWith a swift motion, he hooked his arm under her knees and lifted her up bridal style. Lu Xinyi absentmindedly wrapped her arms around his neck, ceased her crying, and buried her face on his chest. She knew that she was now safely back in his arms, but damn, her foot was really painful.

nShen Xue came running towards him with a worried look on his face. Remorse filled his chest as he saw the swollen foot of his sister-in-law. Taking a brave look at his older brother, Shen Xue knew he screwed up this time. The murderous look on his brother that he hadn’t seen for years was a red flag.

nSomeone just signed a death warrant, and Shen Yi would surely do something to get even to those who hurt his wife.

nShen Yi glared at Sun Ruying when he walked past her, holding Lu Xinyi in his arms. Sun Qiyan stayed silent out of fear but wondered how come her cousin had a connection with the Shen family.

n“Call a doctor. I’ll bring her to the VIP Area.” Shen Yi didn’t spare his brother a look and, with sure steps, took his way to the staircase gathering the attention of everyone within the ballroom.

nHe looked like a demon lord who just has received a sacrificial maiden from the mortals. Everyone was curious to know the identity of the woman in his arms. No matter how they tried, Lu Xinyi had settled herself on her husband’s arm and covered her face with her hair. When they disappeared upstairs, the room was instantly filled with gossips and murmurs.

n“Lady Sun must know that this matter couldn’t be overlooked.” Madam Shen’s domineering tone had made Sun Ruying and Sun Qiyan worried about losing their face to the crowd. Because of Shen Yi’s appearance with Lu Xinyi, everyone was curious about what had happened between her and the Sun women.

n“We were just talking about family matters. I believe this is something that Madam Shen shouldn’t waste her time on.” Sun Ruying was so bothered that this further worsened the problems between the two families. Damn Lu Xinyi, always giving her problems like this.

n“You practically assaulted one of my esteemed guests tonight, and you want me to turn a blind eye to it?” Of course, Madam Shen could not let this pass easily. Lu Xinyi was the young master’s beloved wife after all. It was clear as the daylight that Shen Yi spoiled his wife and had been overprotective of her based on what Madam Shen from the reports she gathered.

nMadam Shen had a strange feeling of impending doom that would fall on Sun Ruying one of these days, and it would be all because she offended Lu Xinyi.

n“Esteemed guest?” Sun Ruying chuckled. “That whore?” she added.

nThe sudden change on Madam Shen’s face startled Sun Ruying. She couldn’t help but shiver under the woman’s gaze.

n“Lady Sun, remember this. Try to harm our Xin’er one more time, and I will not hesitate to bring you back to the scum where you came from. Now, if you could please remove yourselves away from our sight, that would be great.”

nBoth mother and daughter were stunned by Madam Shen’s words. This was Madam Shen’s way to inform them that they aren’t welcome to any Shen establishments and properties anymore. Xiao Lan, too, couldn’t believe what she had heard.

nDid the Shen family really intend to go all out war to protect Lu Xinyi from her maternal family? Lu Xinyi had started another war between the two families.

n“You will regret this!” Sun Ruying sneered before storming out of the place, followed by her daughter.

nMadam Shen stared at them with a scornful look on her face. It seemed like the Sun family didn’t change their ways over the years.

nAt one of the dark balconies near the ballroom, an old man looked heavenward, appreciating the soft luminous light coming from the moon. His assistant hurriedly moved towards him and whispered something to his ear.

nThe calmness on his face turned into displeased expression once he heard what happened to his estranged granddaughter.

n“Who did it?” he asked.

nHis assistant hesitated to tell the truth since he knew what would his master’s reaction be if he found out. However, this wasn’t the time to test his master’s patience.

n“The second miss…”

n“She did what?!”
