Bai Muchuan placed the piece of paper into an evidence bag and returned to the room.
By now, the woman’s mood had calmed down by a lot. Nevertheless, when Bai Muchuan’s cold gaze landed on her, the tension and fright she felt was so obvious and the woman quickly looked down to avoid looking at him.
Bai Muchuan carried the evidence bag and stopped before her.
“Who drew this?”
Wang Xinggui’s shoulder moved as she winced. She looked up for a glance and quickly lowered her head.
“I don’t know. I’ve… never seen this before… I don’t know…”
“You don’t know?” Bai Muchuan grunted coldly, “This is found inside your house. How can you not know?”
After that, he looked at Wang Xinggui’s dull-faced son again.
“Did you draw this?”
Feng Kui looked at the picture Bai Muchuan was holding and shook his head.
“Who drew this then?”
“I don’t know.” His answer was the same as Wang Xinggui.
“Talk!” Although Bai Muchuan had growled at him in a low tone, Feng Kui was so terrified that his legs went soft, almost kneeling down at him. “I really don’t know… Detective Uncle… I really don’t know…”
Detective Uncle?
Bai Muchuan looked at his trembling shoulders. “Both of you don’t want to tell the truth, right?”
Feng Kui was crying and shaking his head. Even his snot almost came out.
Wang Xinggui couldn’t bear to see her son behaving like that. She endured her fear and shielded him despite her still-shaking body. She then looked vigilantly at Bai Muchuan.
“Detective, detective, my son… he really doesn’t know… he doesn’t know anything…”
Bai Muchuan looked at her coldly. “So you’re the one who knows?”
As the perpetrator in the case, Wang Xinggui had already been scared out of her wits. Under Bai Muchuan’s questioning, she wanted to protect her son, yet she was so nervous that her teeth were chattering. “No, I don’t know… We don’t know anything…”
She kept saying this over and over.
Bai Muchuan suddenly took Ding Yifan’s flashlight and shined it on her face.
“You do know.”
Wang Xinggui shuddered in the strong light, her pupils suddenly enlarged and she remained quiet.
Bai Muchuan gave a sneer. “Talk!”
Wang Xinggui quivered, shaking her head but said nothing.
The house was quiet.
The whole place seemed to become quiet.
Wang Xinggui suddenly lifted her head and looked toward Xiang Wan.
Xiang Wan was startled and seemed to see some emotions in her eyes but before she could react, Wang Xinggui had suddenly broken away from the officer who was guarding her and dashed toward Xiang Wan. Her eyes were staring at Xiang Wan ferociously, her mouth opened to reveal the two rows of teeth that had just bitten her husband to death.
“It’s all because of you. It’s all because of you… I’ll bite you to death… I’ll bite you to death…”
“…”
Xiang Wan was so shocked that she was frozen on the spot, watching the skeleton-like figure of the woman dashing toward her. As Xiang Wan had too much clothing on her, she was clumsy and couldn’t react fast enough…
An arm reached out to her.
And pulled her to his arms firmly.
As Xiang Wan was pulled away in time, Wang Xinggui missed her and staggered for two steps which she was now in front of the charcoal heater.
Not fearing that the coals in the stove might burn her, she seemed to have lost her mind and opened the lid of charcoal heater. Then she threw the burning hot coals in there all over the room…
“Let’s die together! I’ll burn you all to death! I’ll burn all of you wicked people to death…”
For a moment, sparks were flying everywhere.
This happened too fast and too sudden, Xiang Wan instinctively hugged Bai Muchuan tightly by the waist and shrank in his arms. Bai Muchuan also protected her from all those sparks and hot burning charcoals by holding her head at his chest. “Quick! Stop her!”
“Hahahaha! Are all of you afraid of death? You wicked people… are also afraid of death?
“I’m not afraid of death, I’m not! Come at me! Come on!”
Wang Xinggui growled loudly, her hands were scorched and darkened but she did not seem to feel any pain. She looked as if she had broken through the limit of tolerance and became immune to pain. She waved the charcoal heater around with her hands. When the sparks landed on her body, she didn’t seem to feel anything. The burning charcoals had started to burn her clothes and she didn’t seem to mind at all as well. She only kept repeating and shouting that she wanted to die with everyone in there…
“Fire! Quick, put out the fire!”
It was a chaotic moment but it only took about slightly more than a minute.
How powerful and strong was a crazy woman?
Xiang Wan buried her head in Bai Muchuan’s arms, not seeing how the sparks were flying around. She only heard Wang Xinggui’s shrill screams!
She went hysterical.
It was agonizingly painful!
She was clearly the one who wanted to hurt them, yet she gave the feeling that she was the actual victim.
Thump!
There was a loud sound.
Wang Xinggui was knocked down to the ground heavily by someone.
She struggled to reach out her hand at where her son was…
Coincidentally when Xiang Wan looked to see what was going on, the burned hand of the woman was before her. The feeling that Xiang Wan got was the same as Wang Xinggui dashed to her earlier with hatred, pain and bitterness; the woman’s eyes were also filled with her grievance towards life. She tried to raise her hand high up in the air and dropped weakly.
“Quick! Send her to the hospital!”
…
Wang Xinggui was taken to the hospital.
Her screams could still be heard in this narrow street.
Many craned their necks to see what was happening and was stopped by the police.
In the house that almost caught fire, Feng Kui looked at Bai Muchuan in horror.
He was more frightened than when they first came into the house and saw him.
“Will my mom die?”
“The doctor will save her! You can tell me what you know now.”
“I…” Feng Kui lowered his head. “I don’t know, I’m a simpleton.”
Bai Muchuan propped his forehead with a hand.
A simpleton calling himself as a simpleton.
Was he really a simpleton?
Bai Muchuan suddenly thought of Xiang Wan.
She seemed to have a knack for questioning and interrogating Yu Bo…
Bai Muchuan turned his head and met Xiang Wan’s gaze when she turned to look at him as well.
Their gazes met and he could still see the panic and shock she had when Wang Xinggui went berserk earlier.
Bai Muchuan did not say anything nor made any request although he couldn’t bear to see her like this.
Xiang Wan, nonetheless, already knew what he wanted to say.
“Let me give it a try!”
Bai Muchuan stood beside her quietly. “Mm, be careful.”
The earlier incident was too outrageous.
If Wang Xinggui’s son was the same as her…
Bai Muchuan kept a close distance with Xiang Wan, about three steps away from her so as to protect her if anything happens.
Xiang Wan smiled reassuringly at him and walked toward Feng Kui slowly.
“Let’s talk for a while, okay?”
There were two police officers beside Feng Kui.
He was sitting upright.
And just kept quiet.
He didn’t move either.
He seemed to have been scared out of his wits.
However, Xiang Wan was not willing to treat the Feng Kui as a simpleton.
The faded certificates on the wall at the living room were proof that this guy had used to be outstanding in the past.
She was thinking that this guy might need some psychological intervention.
She asked, “Your name is Feng Kui, right?”
A gentle and delicate looking young woman’s words seemed to work well…
Feng Kui’s expression was obviously much calmer than earlier.
The next moment, he looked away and pouted, refusing to answer Xiang Wan.
“Do you know how did I come to know about you?” Xiang Wan asked again.
Feng Kui lowered his head, still not answering her question.
It seemed that he felt some shame.
There might be a problem on his level of intelligence but his ethics, views and outlook on life seemed normal.
Xiang Wan smiled. “So, where did that girl go?”
She didn’t beat around the bush but went straight to the point?
Bai Muchuan looked at her, surprised.
Xiang Wan was focused on trying to make Feng Kui talk, and ignored the pair of alluring eyes that was looking at her. She took the evidence bag that contained the drawing. “You know the girl who drew this, right? You’ve seen her before… Can you tell me where is she now?”
Feng Kui stared at her for a long time.
“I don’t know who drew that.”
“So, a girl did come to your house before, right?”
“How did you know?”
