nChapter 99: If You Knew You Were Going to Die
nSu Hao knocked the scaled man down once again with a stone and then woke up the muscular man.
nAs soon as the muscular man woke up, he immediately struggled, his muscles bulging as he tried to break free from the ropes.
nIt was unclear whether the quality of the ropes was an issue or if the muscular man was just too strong, but the ropes on his hands snapped with a “snap,” and he broke free.
nSu Hao spoke up, “Hey, big guy, no need for small talk. I’ll ask, and you answer. Spare your life.”
nThe muscular man, now noticing Su Hao standing by and the scaled man lying beside him, turned his expression under the mask fierce and threatened, “You’re dead, little guy. Don’t worry, once I untie the ropes, I’ll send you on your way with one punch.”
nSu Hao didn’t say anything; it was impossible to communicate with this guy unless he was subdued.
nAs the muscular man reached out to untie the ropes on his feet, Su Hao moved in a flash and swept a leg across his face. The muscular man immediately raised his arm to block.
n*Thud!*
nThe burst of force sent the muscular man tumbling backward several meters.
nThe muscular man’s hands trembled from the impact, and Su Hao also felt a sharp pain in his foot. Indeed, the effect of force was mutual.
nClearly, this exchange had left both parties injured. Su Hao’s current physique was too weak.
n“Stones are still more effective!” Su Hao picked up the stone he had thrown aside earlier and slowly approached the muscular man.
nThe muscular man’s face twisted with anger, “You better not come any closer. Once I untie the ropes, I’ll fight you for three hundred rounds!”
nSu Hao chuckled, swiftly moving to the side with a sliding step, and slapped the stone hard against the muscular man’s face.
n“Ah!” The muscular man cried out in pain, rolling to the ground, and then sat up again, reaching out to touch his face. It was covered in blood. He immediately roared, “You coward who doesn’t dare to fight fairly. I’m Sowang, and I won’t surrender!”
n“Thud!”.
nAnother stone strike made Sowang’s head tilt to the side, but his spine remained straight, and he wasn’t knocked down. Sowang burst into laughter, “Hahaha, you useless coward. Come and kill me, Sowang!”
nSu Hao frowned and delivered a powerful blow to Sowang’s forehead.
n“Thud!” Sowang lay motionless on the ground, unconscious once again.
nAfter thinking for a moment, Su Hao walked over and woke up the scaled man.
nThe scaled man woke up again, realizing that he was still alive. He was overjoyed and looked at Su Hao with anticipation. “Big brother, did you really spare my life?”
nSu Hao asked, “Based on your performance, what’s your name?”
nThe scaled man hesitated, “Well…”
nNighttime operations required maintaining one’s anonymity, as revealing one’s identity would be a death sentence. However, not cooperating would bring death even closer.
nThe nighttime killings had no room for mercy.
nThen he obediently replied, “My name is Yashan, and I’m a janitor who cleans rooms.”
nSu Hao nodded, “Very well, Yashan. If you agree to become my experimental subject, I’ll not only spare your life but also help you advance to become a ‘Roamer’ or an even higher rank. How about that?”
nYashan swallowed nervously, cautiously asking, “What is an experimental subject?”
nSu Hao explained, “It means you do whatever I say, fully cooperate with me in gathering information, and not only will your life be spared, but you can also gain the power you’ve been dreaming of!”
nYashan didn’t believe he could be this lucky. Even though he had always believed in the method of “meat falling from the sky” for promotion, he couldn’t trust a word Su Hao said.
nBut whether he believed it or not, he couldn’t win this fight.
nYashan immediately nodded and said, “Okay, I agree to become your experimental subject, as long as you spare my life.”
nSu Hao pointed at Sowang, the muscular man, and said, “As the first gift, that muscular man is now yours.”
nYashan was momentarily stunned, looking at Sowang lying on the side, then back at himself, and pointed, “Mine?”
nSu Hao nodded, wanting to see what Yashan would do next.
nYashan had a delighted expression and said, “Thank you, big brother!”
nSu Hao replied, “You can call me Wei.”
nYashan hurriedly added, “Thank you, Wei big brother, no, Boss Wei, thank you, Boss Wei.”
nYashan reluctantly raised his tied hands and feet, looking at Su Hao for help.
nSu Hao asked in surprise, “Can’t you break free?”
nYashan embarrassedly shook his head, “I’m a ‘scaled man,’ primarily focused on defense, and strength isn’t my strong suit.”
nSu Hao pulled out a small knife from his waist and walked over to cut the ropes.
nYashan jumped up, rubbed his head, which was throbbing with pain, and directly grabbed Sowang’s arm, tearing the sleeve open, and bit into the arm. He tore off a bloody piece of flesh, swallowed it whole.
n“Ah!” Sowang screamed in pain, waking up.
n*Thud!*
nAnother stone hit his forehead, knocking him unconscious again. Sowang had been hit multiple times tonight; he might end up with a concussion.
nBut that didn’t seem to matter much since Sowang was already a bit slow-witted.
nYashan looked satisfied after swallowing a large piece of meat.
nSu Hao was very curious about what changes occurred in the body after consuming such a large piece of meat. Unfortunately, without instruments to detect it, and the Pinball Space couldn’t record others’ physical information.
n“I need to figure out how to record other people’s bodily data; otherwise, I’ll have to try eating it myself to understand the evolution process. It would be awkward if I couldn’t endure it and was reincarnated before figuring out the mechanism.”
nSoon, Yashan began to feel drowsy. Su Hao looked around and pointed at Sowang, asking, “What are you planning to do with him?”
nYashan forced himself to stay awake and asked, “Aren’t you going to kill him, Boss?”
nSu Hao asked, “Do you want to kill him?”
nYashan scratched his head, “In a life-or-death struggle, killing the opponent is the main goal. But I just wanted to take a bite or two, not his life. Whether to kill him or not doesn’t matter. How about leaving him here? When he wakes up later, he can leave on his own.”
nSu Hao wasn’t a murderer, so he nodded and said, “That works. You can go now.”
nYashan was surprised, “Do experimental subjects only have to eat?”
nSu Hao smiled, “You can think of it that way. Don’t worry; I’ll find you! Don’t think about running away; you can’t escape.”
nWith that, Su Hao left directly.
nYashan looked around the dark and silent surroundings, feeling a sense of being reborn after narrowly escaping death. He quickly left, planning to lay low for a few days and decide his course of action later.
nAs he hurriedly departed, a question popped into Yashan’s mind: “If I knew I would die tomorrow, what would I do?”
nIt seemed like nothing else really mattered, did it? His job, the pressure from his employer, the pursuit of evolution as an extraordinary individual, his wife, and children…
nNone of these things seemed important anymore.
nNo, his two children were so precious; they couldn’t be unimportant.
nThinking about it, Yashan suddenly felt incredibly relaxed, as if he had shed a heavy burden.
nHe thought of his two children again, a mysterious smile on his face.
nIt’s good to be alive, and he had to work hard to live, at least until his children grew up.
nHe didn’t know when he had returned home. The scales on his body gradually faded away. He stole a glance at his sleeping son and daughter, feeling a deep sense of satisfaction.
nAs for his wife who was snoring on the side… well, she was a grown woman and didn’t need to be worried about.
nHe quietly entered a side room and fell asleep.
nOnly after confirming that Yashan had fallen asleep did Su Hao leave from a distance and return to his own home.
nTonight had been quite fruitful, but there were some problems that needed solving next.
n“How can I record the blood and flesh information of others in the Pinball Space?”
