Chapter 398: Meeting
The moment Shane arrived at the highest floor of the building he could hear the voice of an enraged middle-aged man.
Despite feeling that he would enter the room through the door a few meters before him at the worst timing, Shane thought that the situation would only become worse later.
Thus, the sooner he was inside the room, the better.
Knocking on the door, the voice of the middle-aged man who had just wanted to continue his rant about the situation John Stella and his circle of friends wanted to cause, quieted down.
Only a moment later, Shane entered the room in which he found a few dozen higher-ups and saw quite a few familiar faces.
“I’m sorry for the intrusion, but I figured that I should come and defend myself for wanting to pursue the Mythic mission to get permission to acquire the perfect mana purification manual!”
After that, he bowed slightly before he saw that his father had pulled an empty chair beside his own.
With that, Shane assumed that he had been expected to arrive earlier. He walked through half of the room once everyone had quieted down, and an uncomfortable silence spread through the room once he seated himself.
Only a few moments later did the middle-aged man start to voice out his complaints again.
“Even if Shane has the possibility to acquire a perfect mana purification manual, isn’t it too dangerous to attack another race’s shelters, and destroy them? Our situation is already grave because we have to face the Dark Ice Elves, let alone the Advanced race behind them, and more trouble is the last thing we need right now!”
To that Shane could only sigh and he was about to say something when Aunt Kia spoke up for him.
“Officially, there has never been a being that attained a perfect foundation, and if Shane were to accomplish this, our race’s future would be grand! Offending a few basic races shouldn’t be a problem either.
The Dark Ice Elves have already convinced the majority of basic races to attack us and other basic races by handing out a huge bounty, either way!
Would there really be a problem if Shane were to attack the basic races that have already attacked our basic shelters, or have voiced out their willingness to attack us? Is that really more important than giving our prodigies the chance to pave their own way to greatness?!?”
Shane nodded when he heard this because her words were certainly true. There were many basic races that had already started to attack mankind’s basic, intermediate or even advanced shelters owing to the Dark Ice Elves’ terrifically high bounties.
As such, it shouldn’t be much of an issue if he were to attack and destroy their shelter.
Defeated in the argument, the middle-aged man could only quiet down and think about the situation for a moment before he mumbled.
“The situation is still too grave…Even if the basic races are already attacking us, they’re not doing this as seriously as it would be if we were to destroy their shelters.
Furthermore, by taking revenge and destroying their shelters we would only cause a chain reaction, worsening the entire situation.
Aren’t our problems with the interlinked Primordial dimensions already grand enough?”
In the beginning, Shane thought that the middle-aged man was logical, but the longer he spoke, the less respect he could give him.
Subconsciously, he simply blurted out “coward” before he averted his attention to Kia and the rest of his family.
His ‘coward’ resounded through the entire room, and the middle-aged man was about to jump up, only to be held back by an old man who stared at Shane.
“As a matter of fact, would this young man even be strong enough to conquer a total of 10 shelters in three months. Notwithstanding the fact that each of the shelters have defensive capabilities strong enough to take on a beast tide of three Overlords with countless weaker beasts?
You’re alone and the military won’t be able to help you. The military has already employed all soldiers and the elite units have to be on standby to protect the scarce numbers of shelters we have been reduced to!”
It was only when the old man had held back the middle-aged man that Shane noticed that there was a family of three sitting opposite him, consisting of a total of three generations.
The middle-aged man’s son seemed to be around his age, but Shane knew that he had already liquefied his mana, which was the reason the young man glared at Shane.
He was of the opinion that Shane was nothing but a pampered, weak child that needed others’ help to complete their missions, which was also the reason for everything to happen right now.
Ignoring the young, glaring man, Shane’s attention remained on the old man, as Uncle Lars added,.
“Even if our soldiers are already employed, we can bear to part with a small fraction to build a strong combat force that should be more than enough to conquer 10 shelters. Furthermore, with Shane’s strength, there shouldn’t be an issue!”
Upon hearing this, he simply laughed out but turned serious when no one else joined him in his laughter.
Not wanting to give up he retorted,
“So you want to tell me that you can bear the casualties this little young man will bring to the military, every single time he conquers one shelter? It’s not even certain if he can lead the military well, let alone survive conquering 10 shelters!”
At that, before anyone else could say something, Shane cleared his throat, indicating that he wanted to say something first.
He had been quiet until now, but the direction in which the conversation was headed was completely wrong.
As such, he simply stated his point of the view.
“Before I say anything about my combat prowess, the issue about the number of military units I need, or anything else, I want to state that I plan to take down 10 shelters in the radiant mountain ring dimension!
The Miac alliance has many strong shelters, and by disguising myself, and everyone who will come with me, there won’t be many problems.”
Taking out the mask of the Curse of Susurro, he put it on for a moment to show everyone that he could simply hide.
This would certainly not hide the fact that mankind was attacking other races’ shelters because it was almost impossible to prevent casualties during a battle, but it was better than nothing.
Furthermore, Shane had a different plan than the government which made him come to the second point he had wanted to mention.
“As for the military units I need to conquer the shelters, that will be a total of zero units!”
This caused a commotion and even the young man sitting opposite him couldn’t help look at Shane with a newfound interest, only to revert back to his glaring gaze.
“Don’t tell me you want to conquer entire shelters with nothing but your own strength? Even before you start a massacre, they will have surrounded you, and called back-up if that will even be necessary!!”
When Shane heard the young man jump to conclusions, he shook his head as he explained what he meant.
“I never said that I will conquer the shelters alone, but I have my own forces. The government should know about that because I reported it, but let’s forget about those that slacked off…
To put it simply, I just wanted to report that I want to take down 10 shelters, and nothing else. There is no need for any help because I’m strong enough to do everything by myself and with my own efforts!
In the end, I have enough hidden tricks to conquer other shelters with the fewest casualties, and there is no need to be too worried!”
