Chapter 422: Resolve

The moment Cosmo came in touch with him, he saw vivid images of three types of beasts in his mind!

His ability was still activated, and Shane assumed this to be the reason for the visualisation to happen.

“So that’s how I can figure out their evolution paths?” He mumbled before opening his eyes. After his ability was deactivated, everything returned to how it was before.

Stroking Cosmo, he thanked his impatient little soulbond before he put away the items that were laid out in front of him.

Only a moment later, both Umbra and Viridy jumped towards Shane, demanding to be patted too!

This was something Shane had expected from Umbra, but not Viridy as he had never really sensed its emotions.

While trying to pat his three soulbonds at once, he activated his ability once again, focusing on Viridy, who should have already reached the highest possible.

It was only a few seconds later that he could now visualise a total of four beasts in his mind.

While the first possible evolution path looked like Viridy in a slightly larger format, the second beast he visualised underwent a drastic change, with thousands of flowers sprouting from a one-meter tall human-like spirit.

This first evolution probably focused on strengthening the Wood affinity that was better to use in attacking and defending, while the second evolution focused on the nature affinity and a possible healing process.

On the other hand, the third and fourth evolution paths were slightly different, seemingly focusing on both.

The third beast he visualised was a large form of the lesser forest spirit, with a bulky body that was enveloped with vines, moss, and flowers.

It looked physically strong but was also capable of healing, but that was something Shane couldn’t say for sure yet.

Meanwhile, the fourth evolution path appeared to be the most interesting and Shane assumed that it was the evolution path of the highest quality Mystic which was what Viridy had reached.

In comparison to the other evolution paths, it was the largest in shape, and one could compare it to a small giant that had at least the height of 5 meters, if not more.

The last beast he had visualised also had a bulky physique that was mostly enveloped by tightly intertwined vines and tree roots.

Its torso was very broad as well as its legs and arms were long, giving it a majestic appearance.

However, what caused Shane to be the most interested in the beast he saw was that there was a green glow in its eyes!

This was different compared to the previous possible evolution paths and intriguing to Shane.

The beast’s head was thick, and two large wooden horns grew out of the sides of its forehead shooting towards the front.

Even though there were no signs of it having a healing ability similar to the flowers in the second and third possible evolution path, Shane was sure that the beast he was currently visualising had all the necessary abilities and traits within it.

The dark-green glowing core was only faintly perceptive through the multitude of thick layers of protection which the vines and roots represented.

Unfortunately, the evolution paths were not completely colored, and Shane simply thought that the reason for this was Viridy had yet to reach his racial limit!

As such, he couldn’t choose any of the four evolution paths to initiate an evolution, and even if he could, Shane assumed that it was not as easy as he assumed.

With a deep sigh, Shane deactivated his ability before he continued to caress his soulbonds.

‘Just what are my occupation and ability? Were the Susurros really some sort of unique tamers? All of them?!’

This assumption made sense in some ways, but at the same time, Shane couldn’t really understand how he could have the blood of such a race.

Apparently, they were humans as well, but Shane was unable to tell how they had tamed any kinds of beasts if they also used to live on Igra.

The planet had been manaless earlier after all!

Confusion spread through Shane’s mind, but instead of thinking too much about his ancestry, he decided to adjust himself to the circumstances.

This was unavoidable, and it was good that the bloodline awakening had allowed him to take the first steps to become independent of the system as he couldn’t use it to learn several things about himself!

At that moment, Viridy made a weird noise that caused Shane to look at his youngest soulbond in astonishment, only to realise something he hadn’t thought about.

‘Wait..what kind of ability does Viridy have and can I still use Cosmo’s Space Jump ability despite not having direct access to the system?… If I inherited my soulbonds’ affinity, their abilities should also be something I inherited… I guess?’

Because the Remote use ability was not visible on the Mask of the Cursed Susurro anymore, Shane could only assume that it was something taken away by the system. The abilities had now transformed into something that innately belonged to him!

Standing up, he pushed his soulbonds away gently before he utilized the four affinities he had in quick succession.

This was difficult and Shane decided to start experimenting with them in order to figure out more about the extent to which his mana was used up, what exactly each affinity was capable of, and if he could utilize them together.

A few hours later, Shane was lying on the verdant grass with sweat trickling down his temples.

It had been more difficult to make use of the inherited abilities than Shane had expected, but at the same time, his interest was only increasing, exponentially at that.

‘If I learn to use all four affinities as I can subconsciously move my limbs, it will definitely be a terrifying sight for my opponents!’

Shane’s thoughts were already far ahead in the future, and for now, he could only use the simplest move with the darkness affinity.

The other three affinities were still crude and unrefined if one would put it nicely, but Shane had figured out what ability Viridy had and how to utilize both Umbra”s and Cosmo’s ability too!

Merging with the shadows was something Shane had never needed before, but by using the darkness affinity to release a shroud of darkness as Umbra had done often enough, his ability could become extremely useful.

Meanwhile, Cosmo’s ability allowed Shane to control his spatial affinity perfectly for a total of two seconds.

This was great and extremely useful for surprise attacks while manifesting several spatial doors at once!

Thankfully, the fact that he couldn’t use the system didn’t affect his combat prowess much.

However, due to the very same reason, Shane decided that he wouldn’t use any skills for some time!

Skills like the Concealment and Mana Membrane(Lesser) were activated by a simple thought and the system would initiate the necessary procedures within the body.

Meanwhile, the Eagle Eyes skill was a passive ability that he could enhance by using mana, turning it into something that didn’t require the system to do any work.

This was extremely useful, but Shane was also not sure about Artemis’ Blessing and his title’s skills.

In his opinion, his title’s skills were something that was processed by the system, which made Shane believe that he shouldn’t use them anymore!

He couldn’t remain dependent on the system’s help, at least not while fighting others because this would make it only harder for him to move on. It would stagnate his combat prowess and would be disastrous once the system truly disappeared!
