Chapter 466: At own risk
Shane felt empty and his mind was blank after everything had been concluded.
There were no living beasts in the surroundings, and only he, the members of the Astral Starlight faction, and the dead Myst stage corpses were left behind.
Because of that, Shane, who had subconsciously continued to heal the wounds he had inflicted to himself, was instinctively returning to the space door, ignoring the dead corpses.
He stole a fleeting glance at Aisha, who was now lying in Frer’s arm.
The young woman was crying bitterly, in disbelief that her best friend had just been killed and it was not before more than 10 minutes had passed that one of the surviving Valkyries lightly tapped Frer’s shoulder.
She had instinctively flinched, only to look at her sworn sister, who shook her head faintly.
All Valkyries had tears in their eyes, and when Frer looked at the surroundings, she noticed with blurry eyes that Shane had already vanished and that the others were about to leave as well, carrying the corpses of the deceased back to Igra.
The entire area around the shelter was tense, and nobody spoke a word because it was not needed.
There was not a single person who didn’t have tears in their eyes despite having witnessed the deaths of loved ones before.
Most humans were just crying right now because they felt as if everything was slowly turning useless.
Not only was it now impossible to enter the Primordial dimensions without the probability of encountering beasts at the Myst stage, but everything was bound to change in a chaotic manner.
The accidents that had increased during the last few days had given rise to a desperate feeling within everyone.
In the end, the appearance of 11 beasts at the Myst stage had become the final spark, igniting the barrel that was filled with gunpowder.
Despite being filled with anger, sadness, and pain about having lost someone, Shane had perceived how the others were feeling about what was happening.
As such, even if he was feeling empty, his thoughts were slowly untangling themselves, giving him the ability to think clearly again.
His blank mind was filled with thoughts and the moment he emerged on Igra by stepping through the Space door, he mumbled.
“It’s time to abandon the Primordial dimensions…”
With a serious expression, he returned to the main gathering hall where he found Talia clarifying things with other members of the management.
Shane was in no rush to tell everyone to abandon the system because they required the system messenger for certain things while the Dimension Portals were also something they needed.
His entire family was currently meeting other basic races, trying to achieve a breakthrough in convincing them to sign a peace and trade treaty with each other.
There were already more than 50 races on mankind’s side, and the same amount of Space doors had been placed on other planets, connecting them even without the Dimension portal or system.
However, in order to enter another race’s planet both Dimension portals and the system were still required by mankind.
Shane knew this, but that didn’t mean that they should use the Primordial dimensions now.
As such, after he made up his mind, Shane explained everything that had happened to Talia, who had been visibly nervous the moment he had entered the gathering hall.
This was because Shane’s entire body was smeared with blood, while his eyes were ice-cold as if he would kill someone at a moment’s notice.
While he had explained everything neatly, his eyes and expression had never changed once. It was only when Talia had fully realised what had just happened, did she feel a numbing shock.
In the end, she agreed to Shane’s decision because the Primordial dimensions had just become too dangerous for anyone to enter under their watch.
“We will allow everyone to enter the Primordial dimensions at their own risk, but abandoning our shelters should be the best solution….”
This decision changed the entire plan the echelons of the Astral Starlight faction had made because one of the most important things they had wanted to achieve was to complete several large-scale system missions.
It would have been extremely beneficial as the increased mana purity would have allowed everyone to improve their combat prowess drastically.
Unfortunately, their short, mid, and long term plans about an increased mana purity were now rendered useless, and everything would have to be gradually changed.
While Shane’s expression was still icy cold, he couldn’t help but feel that Talia was way too rational.
She seemed to be shocked about what had happened, but her mind was working properly, without a single tear of sadness, or anger visible on her face.
Her entire mind was focused on saving their race while allowing them to have the best possible start colonizing a new planet without losing out too much on their current advancement.
As such, she couldn’t allow herself to mourn right now.
Other than that, there hadn’t been anyone Talia had been extremely close to who had died which made it possible for her to stay more rational too.
On one hand, Shane found her behavior unsuitable if she were to show it to those who had lost someone important just a few minutes ago, but on the other hand, Talia was giving her best to prevent repetition of today’s incident on the new planet.
Despite the odds that were against mankind, Talia believed in herself and everyone around her, which was evident according to her behavior.
Shane thought that Talia had been born to manage and lead others, which was completely different to him.
In his opinion, it was much better and easier to fight for him, and the amount of strategic thinking he did was mostly owing to his aunts and uncles who had taught him everything.
He was not a born leader but had been trained to become one.
Together, both Talia and Shane had been able to build the Astral Starlight faction to what it had become now.
It was not only their sole efforts but the two of them had done the most and poured their heart and soul to make the best out of it.
While Talia had already begun to change the plan, messaging everyone in charge to either do something else than they were supposed to do, or to hasten up forging ties with other races.
Other than that, Talia sorted out several foreign races that were less useful for mankind, while giving others a higher priority.
Somehow, she felt like despite her best efforts she was missing out on something or the other, that she was trying to hold on to sand tightly, only to see it escape through the gaps in her fingers.
What they needed the most was not something they had anymore, and the amount of tasks they had yet to complete were numerous.
“We have no time left!….”
Time was running out, and the kinds of things they had to do had been further restricted because the Primordial dimensions were now a place they wouldn’t actively venture into.
As such, many things had now changed, and Shane, whose eyes were still cold and serious, had now only two tasks left before he had achieved everything he was supposed to.
‘It’s almost time…’
