Chapter 472: Life-and-Death
Releasing a majority of his mana, Cheng clearly showed Loris that he was about to attack her.
This shocked Loris even more than the message she had just read through.
Taking a deep breath, she could only take out a wand in addition to three different colored potions.
Opening the lid, Loris gulped them down without hesitation because she had realised that Cheng was behaving differently than usual.
‘Something is definitely wrong… He doesn’t want to kill me, but still attacks…weird!’
With that thought, she used her wand that decreased her mana consumption by more than 50% as she utilised the only affinity she had received from her Unique alchemy occupation.
It was a Variant Nature affinity with which she could control the surrounding nature to a certain degree.
Accessing her spatial ring, she threw more than ten plants out of it, while making use of her nature affinity.
However, before Loris could even finish the preparations she wanted to complete, Cheng had already appeared in front of her.
Slashing out with the shortswords in his hands, Loris noted that Cheng was not hesitating to injure her.
Because of the high-velocity slash, Loris could barely control one of the plants as huge vines shot out of it, protecting her by forming a wall-like shield in front of her.
Out of the blue, Cheng changed his stance, switching from a sword slash to a powerful kick into Loris’ abdomen.
This catapulted her several meters away, destroying the surrounding tents as shocked expressions of the surrounding humans could be seen.
Only now did everyone realise that something was wrong.
Two of the Uniters were fighting against each other, and the amount of unstable mana that permeated the air was tremendously high, which showed that they were fighting seriously.
After the first encounter, it was evident that the fight had become a life-and-death battle, causing panic among the weak humans who just wanted to leave Igra as quickly as possible.
Fleeing from the spot, the surrounding area was soon cleared of humans which made Cheng sigh inwardly.
Unfortunately, the only good thing was that nobody except Loris was around him anymore because she was the only Uniter present.
This was bad, and Cheng was unable to hold back too much.
Because of that, he tried to restrict the injuries he caused Loris, who was far from being a powerful combatant.
One cut after another was initiated, and it didn’t take long before Loris bled from more than a dozen wounds.
However, none of them was serious, or life-threatening, which confused Loris, who knew that Cheng could have already ended her.
Suddenly, Cheng’s entire head turned red, as he froze in his tracks, holding his chest as if something was aching.
In fact, his entire body was rapidly heating up which instilled a deep sense of fear within his body because there was one particular rune engraved on his chest that had been activated right now.
The veiled beings that had abducted his wife and son, engraved the exact same rune on Cheng, and his family.
This connected their pain receptors with each other, transmitting the pain his family felt with Cheng.
It was because of this rune that the fear within Cheng intensified because he knew that his family was in danger, and being hurt right now.
It was clear that he was being surveilled now after he sensed his family’s pain as it was the most likely reason for his lack of will to kill Loris and advance further to kill the young prodigies of the human race.
He was being way too slow and dragged on the fight, which was noticed by the veiled beings that didn’t want Cheng to encounter more opponents who could obstruct him from completing his mission!
It was evident that Cheng had been trying to hold back, and the being that observed him had noticed this, which in return, made it inflict pain on Cheng’s beloved ones to send him a warning.
Gritting his teeth, he didn’t even know that he bit on his cheeks, which caused blood to gush out of the corner of his mouth as he said,
“Use every means to defend yourself, Loris…I cannot hold back anymore…”
Sighing deeply, Cheng apologised inwardly as his last ray of hope dispersed, the moment he exerted his strongest movement and martial art technique.
His speed increased drastically, making it impossible for Loris to react properly in the quarter of a second she received as Cheng had already appeared in front of her.
Only because of the potions she had gulped down did every single characteristic of her receive a sharp increment.
This allowed her to barely utilise several defensive techniques at once.
However, even that was useless as Cheng’s shortswords were suddenly clad in utter darkness, shattering her defenses as if they were made of glass.
It was only when one of Cheng’s shortswords cut into Loris, that he revealed a moment of hesitation because he noticed something which made his heart thump loudly.
A spatial portal manifested in front of Loris as a barrage of arrows pierced out of them, flinging away the shortsword that had already cut a few centimeters through Loris’ waist.
Barely a second later, John Stella and Shane’s aunt, Gaby emerged from the spatial portal, with enraged expressions on their faces.
Seeing how one of their best friends was about to kill another one was a shock, and even after they had read the message from Cheng, this was not something they could forgive.
John was already swinging his broadsword at Cheng, who jumped back, as he blurted out faintly.
“Thank you…”
After that, he straightened his back before his eyes turned cold and serious.
“…but now I won’t hold back anymore!”
Releasing dense mana currents, they enveloped him a second later, only to turn pitch black, barely revealing a plasma blue color in place of his eyes.
After that, his shortswords were replaced by two, thin and unique-looking longswords that released distinct currents, making everyone in the surroundings feel as if they were desperate to kill.
Opening a spatial portal, John jumped through it, while thrusting the longsword in his hands to the front, directly facing Cheng.
This was not a special attack, but a rather crude and rough one, but it had worked until now.
Unfortunately, Cheng was overly familiar with John’s combat style and knew what was about to happen.
Because of that, he simply evaded the sword’s thrust, before starting to initiate his attack.
Not holding back anymore, Cheng was simply trying to release more mana than he should, allowing the others to drain him quickly of his energy if they would just work together.
However, rather than that, Gaby was tending to Loris’ wounds, thinking that John would be enough to stall Cheng.
This was a big mistake, and in less than half a minute, the surrounding area was completely devastated, while John was bleeding from more than ten cuts, with three serious injuries.
None of them was life-threatening, which was mostly because he had defended himself properly, but Cheng’s desperate attempts to kill everyone obstructing his way were obvious.
His mana currents radiated his reluctance, but his actions held no hesitation, which was weird.
But that was not something John could figure out right now because there was no way they could speak to Cheng, who had released his strongest ability right from the start.
‘So, it will really end as you hinted to me? If that’s the case, let me give you some peace!’
With that thought in mind, John Stella released the shackles binding him as he unveiled something only Cheng, and his late wife had known.
