Chapter 474: Once incident after another
When Shane woke up, he realised that he was on a large bed.
His neck was still aching, but feeling the pain made him recall what had happened.
“Uncle Cheng!!” Shane shouted scampering out of the bed without minding where he was or what was in his surroundings.
Because of that, he didn’t even notice that he stumbled over a huge black scaled body which he hadn’t seen in the darkness.
Groaning in pain, Shane sensed Umbra’s transmitted emotions which made him realise that his soulbond had awoken from his quality enhancement.
That was a good sign, but he was unable to marvel at Umbra right now because his premonition told him that something bad had happened.
Igra was still standing, as such the Void eater problem was still further away.
Despite that, Shane knew that he had to report what was going on to someone because it was of utmost importance.
At the same time, he was worried about uncle Cheng, because his gut feeling told him that something was wrong even if he was not sure what had happened.
Wearing the Mask of the Cursed Susurro, Shane could see in the darkness, allowing him to rush through the room and hallway.
Meanwhile, Umbra had barely been able to enter the Hidden Paradise, before Shane had already disappeared.
Rushing towards the main hall, Shane took only a simple robe out of his spatial ring, covering his body before he jumped right into the meeting of the Astral Starlights echelons.
The Uniters looked pale, and Shane could tell that even his father appeared to be shaken.
He was pale, and his eyes looked as if they had lost some vigor.
This caused Shane to blurt what he was concerned about.
“Don’t tell me Uncle Cheng….It’s not true, right?”
Earlier, he had only made an assumption, and by connecting the dots, it was obvious that Uncle Cheng had betrayed them.
There should have been a reason for all of this, but that was not something Shane could know.
When Shane stormed into the large hall, he attracted the attention of others who looked at him with a sigh of relief.
He had slept for more than three days and many things had happened on Igra after Cheng had betrayed them.
John Stella’s serious expression eased up a little bit when he saw that his son was healthy as a horse.
‘You couldn’t do anything to him, huh? How could everything escalate, reaching such a chaotic situation…??’
“Sit down, and take a deep breath. We heard that you have something important to tell us, but please listen to me first!”
It was Aunt Kia, who approached Shane, handing him proper clothes and something to drink, which she placed on the large table.
Without wasting any time, he gulped down the water, only to hastily put on the clothes before he sat down, staring at Aunt Kia with impatient eyes.
Sighing deeply, Aunt Kia said,
“You should already know what happened….Cheng knocked you out after all. But, if you’re still not sure about it, I will be blunt with you!”
Staring straight into Shane’s eyes, Kia Mel decided to be straightforward without holding back what had happened.
“Cheng betrayed us and the entire human race! Before you encountered him, he destroyed the Space door connected to the planet we chose to colonize in addition to all other planets we had selected to colonize as a backup plan if something were to go wrong.
Other than that, he released said planet’s coordinates, preventing us from colonizing them without the high possibility of being found by other races.
As if that was not enough, he almost killed Loris because she was the first to encounter Cheng after he knocked you down!
Fortunately, your father could stop him with Gabriella’s help, but they had to use all of their strength…it was impossible to stop him, and he was killed in the process!
In the end, Cheng was unable to advance towards the nurturing ground of the Starlight Guild, which was probably his next destination in order to kill the young generation of the human race!”
Shane had already expected that Cheng must have betrayed them, but hearing everything his uncle had done caused his eyes to widen.
“Are…you serious?” That was the only thing he could say as his eyes stared blankly at the empty cup in front of him.
Not only had Cheng betrayed them and mankind but his beloved Uncle was dead, killed by none other than his father.
They were unable to search for another planet either because it would take days, if not weeks of time.
And time….was what they didn’t have anymore.
There were at most a few days left before the void eaters would have completely devoured Igra that had already started to crumble, showing signs of the doom that approached them.
Nobody, except Shane knew what exactly was going on, and that the reason for Igra’s destruction was none other than the greed of those that had lived on the planet for thousands of years- the human race!
Shane’s heart felt like an empty shell at the thought of the Void eaters, Cheng’s betrayal, and everything that was bound to happen.
Without realising what he was doing, he continued to stare at the cup as he mumbled,
“Is that how it will end? Betrayed by those we trusted the most, only to succumb to the Void eaters that had been sent by the Veiled beings…what a joke…”
A single tear trickled down his cheek at the thought of his uncle as he wondered if Cheng had ever been honest with them.
Now, there was no way of finding out the answer, and it was only when his other aunts and uncles explained that Cheng had changed a few months ago while telling them to be careful about something that everything became even more confusing.
‘Is the appearance of the Void eaters and Cheng’s betrayal a coincidence?… I don’t think so…’
Void eaters didn’t exist in this Universe, which meant that they had to originate from behind the Veil.
As such, something that made it possible for Void eaters to appear on Igra could have also forced Cheng to betray them and humanity.
However, could there be something that made this acceptable?
In Shane’s opinion, nothing in this world would justify betraying his family and friends because he held them dear.
But, pondering over Uncle Cheng’s possible reason didn’t make him feel any good.
Instead, it caused more frustration to accumulate within him, which he couldn’t release just now.
Everything seemed to be a cruel joke, and the thought of being unable to colonise other planets in addition to the Void eaters’ appearance made everything even more difficult.
As such, Shane calmed himself before he said with determination.
“Alright, that was enough mourning…”
Taking a deep breath, he didn’t even let the others continue talking because they were talking in circles.
Right now, the other Uniters were suppressing their emotions, trying to find a way to a planet they could possibly choose in order to colonise it.
They knew that this would take a few days, but it was better than nothing because nobody wanted Shane to use his wish.
However, that was probably exactly what he would be forced to do.
‘Is that something the Creator was able to foretell? Is that his grand scheme?’
