Chapter 1938: Bright Sun
Sandhya kept thinking about what her mom said.
She kept on imagining what the outside world would be like and how she might survive it. And in all of her possible experiences, she kept on thinking about Sam. After all, he is the only connection she has to the outside world and it is hard for her to not keep him away from those experiences.
Of course, Sam didn't care for it that much.
The next morning, they all gathered for the disaster to strike. Sam had launched a myriad of flying puppets that locked on the whole mountain range. Keeping a constant watch to make sure no anomaly will pass by.
After the sun rose, they all felt that it is a bit brighter than every other day. It is a bit warmer and the people of the city felt blessed because of that.
The warmth of the sun and the brightness of the day, which they don't often see felt like a blessing.
Of course, Sam was as usual and didn't think that naively. He knew better than that.
As soon as he saw that the sun light is brighter than usual, he let his thoughts wander. After all, one of the three gods left is the god of Sun. Apollo.
Sam let his puppets do more thorough search around.
He must say the view and the environment is very beautiful. The dew on the leaves and the slight warmth combined with that morning fog is indeed a great feeling. He couldn't get enough of it. After doing a searching in the forests surrounding him, he focused on the peaks where the snow is dense and the sunlight is also highest.
Sam tried to connect himself with the puppets to feel the temperature in the surroundings. But he didn't feel much difference.
It is within the acceptable range based on the data he gathered.
Sam didn't mind it though. The sun light literally be the disaster here and this might just be the starting point. If this one is also a slow disaster, Sam is ready to tackle it.
"Keep minding the sunlight. I have seen that many people in the city are going to the sunlight rich area to enjoy it. Tell them to be careful and let me know if there are any anomalies.
"
These are instructions he gave to Sandhya who was confused and when she relayed these orders to the young masters, they were also dumbfounded.
They didn't really believe that some sunlight could be that much of a problem.
"How can this sunlight be dangerous? Don't you think you might be a bit too paranoid?
"
Sandhya directly asked Sam.
Sam stayed silent for a moment and thought of all the times he used the sunlight and light in general to deal with people. He couldn't help but let out a chuckle.
"You have no idea how dangerous sunlight could be until you face.
"
He just stopped there and waited to see more changes. Time passed slowly with every passing second, people are more and more assured that sunlight is just a regular weather change. Nothing more.
Even Sam noticed a very minute difference, of course she still held the same belief, because he could see that the mountains indeed slightly warmed up and the fog is not as thick on them after a couple of hours.
And he was more reassured that his belief is true when he saw a few drops drip down from mountains. His surveillance to tight that he managed to identify a line of water forming as the time passed. He could see it clearly.
And as soon as he saw it, he immediately became vigilant.
He started observing all the mountains. There are a bunch of small streams appearing on all of them. These streams are following the rocky paths and are joining the bigger streams that are naturally there.
Basically, the water flow that was coming down the mountain has started increasing.
Sam did take it up on himself to inform others about this change, but they are not really worried about it. This might not be a common thing, but that doesn't mean they haven't seen this before. The time went on.
The sun brightened up and it is still in the realm of being warm. But this time the temperature difference became higher. The difference between the second and the first hour is a lot less compared to the difference between the third and the second.
When the fourth hour came he noticed that the difference almost doubled compared to the previous hour.
This only made Sam much more sure that the next one is definitely apollo. He didn't waste any time. He left the city along with Dia.
Both of them went to a mountain nearby and observed the increase in the flow of the stream. More water and more dangerous. Of course, it is not at the point of real danger, but there is no way he is taking that chance.
He and Dia focused on changing the terrain of the mountain a bit. They decided to build a reservoir. Not a proper reservoir, more like a large container which is designed to reduce a lot of volume in the waterflow.
He used the earth elemental energy to modify the terrain and built a bunch of pits and connected these pits to the stream.
Sam knew that a flood wouldn't be much of a problem to the city. After all, at the rate of cultivation that the people have, they could swim through a tsunami, but Sam doesn't want to take any chances after all, a flood doesn't necessarily pose only one threat of drowning.
And drowning is definitely a threat right now as the valley doesn't have enough space to hold all the water that comes if the snowcaps on the mountains melt down completely.
They would have to fight in a space enclosed with water if that happens.
As time passed, Sam created more and more of these sinks that reduced the water flow and they indeed proved useful. The flow of streams indeed increased at a visible rate.
Sam went back to the city after working on these things for a few hours and he was met with a bunch of people that suddenly grew vigilant.
"This level of warmth is something we didn't experience before.
"
The clan leader said in a worried tone.
It is indeed true that they craved for this level of warmth before, but when it finally came, they are scared **less.
"We can only take it as it comes. There is not much to do anyway.
"
Time passed. At ninth hour after the first change in the environment, the snowcaps showed some large movement. The surface of the mountains heated up very much and all the smaller snow deposits already finished melting. They already entered the stream and there are a few floods on the mountain because of the movement of large volume of water.
Some of the beasts had their habitat's disturbed and they ran down the mountain. Sam expected this too. The more time passes and the more ecosystem is disturbed, the more threats the city has to face. The beasts are just one part of the problem.
As the beasts charged at the city, Sam took a backseat. It is city's turn to deal with them. Sam is not going to step in. At least not yet.
The members of the city charged forward to defend the beasts. They didn't want to put the formations to use.
The battle started. The tackle with the disaster officially began.
Time passed.
By thirteenth hour, the sun suddenly went down. Usually, the sunrise and sunset should be a one gradual process. It goes from low to high and high to low with a gradient. But the thirteen our day time here vanished abruptly and turned into night.
It is almost like the sunlight was modified in such a way that the intensity of it increased according to its position at the time of the day.
Sam felt a bit weird. All the disasters he faced until now ended within six hours of time. He made sure of that as he tackled with all the troubles thrown at him by these stupid gods. This is the first time that he would have to fight against a disaster for more than a day.
After sun down, Sam went out. The city is already disturbed, they finally understood that even sunlight could be an ominous thing. Sam decided to check the mountain terrain a bit and he was surprised to notice that the snow is still melting.
The surface is not cooling down. Instead it retained the heat that it gained throughout the day. The beasts became much more rowdy as they charged blindly. The beasts that are closer to the peak are also moving now.
Which is dangerous because the beasts in the mountains are one of the reasons other forces are not invading the city.
They present a considerable threat and now the city in the valleys has to face that considerable threat themselves.
