Chapter 25

nMo Xuetong was informed after dinner that she had to to go the hall on the left of the meditation garden without taking anyone with her. She could not see the face of the person approaching clearly in the night. She had a vague feeling that it was a guard. She gave Mo Lan a sheet of paper with the same symbol. Judging by the age of the paper, it was very old.
nShuang Ye and Qiu Ling were dragged by Mo Yu to the room to embroider flowers to make a handkerchief that Mo Xuetong “liked”.
nMo Lan had not wanted to let Mo Xuetong go alone. However, Mo Xuetong was very determined and Mo Lan could not do anything about it and had to agree.
nMo Xuetong walked on the quiet path alone. No matter in her past life or in the present, she had always been hidden in the back courtyards. She had never gone out secretly to meet anyone in the dark night. Even though she was calm, her fingers were clenched tightly and her hands were cold.
nHowever, the other party had requested that she went alone and she did not dare to offend him. She really needed the two secret guards! As such, she had to do what the person asked!
nThe Buddhist hall was not too far away. She could vaguely see what was happening there when she stood at the door. As such, Mo Xuetong was not afraid of losing her way.
nThere was no moonlight at all on the path. The moon could not be seen tonight and silence pervaded the entire meditation garden. Even the sounds of the wooden fish that should be present in the temple could not be heard either. It made everything seem strange. Only the sounds of her light footsteps broke through the silence. Mo Xuetong bit her lips tightly, feeling a natural fear. She stood still and looked at her rooms. She could see Mo Lan’s lone figure being shone upon by the dim lantern far away in the distance.
nShe was afraid, as if she was walking in an endless patch of darkness. She closed her eyes…
nThere was a sudden flicker of light in front of her eyes. She could see herself in the light, bleeding from all her orifices. That pain was something that she would haunt her even when she died…
nIf she could live again, and even if she were to become a ghost, she was willing to use herself to drag them all into hell with her!
nShe breathed in again and pulled out a hairpin from her hair and held it in her hand. The sharp end of the hairpin was lodged in her palms. It hurt her, but she continued to hold on to it tightly. She used the sharp pain to control the uneasiness and fear she felt.
nThe path was not long. However, Mo Xuetong felt as if it was far away. Her pink lips were bitten to a pale white by her. She could hear her heart beating wildly.
nThe doors of the hall finally appeared before her. She did not enter straight but hesitated for a while. She leaned against the door subconsciously and peered through the door cracks.
n“Oh, a noble lady can be so impolite to peek at others through the cracks of the door?” There was a soft voice by her ear. Mo Xuetong was surprised and raised her hand subconsciously, plunging wildly with the hairpin she held tightly in her hand.
n“Oh, it’s you!” The lazy laughter had a tinge of surprise. The voice seemed to come from far away. A pair of strong hands held her hand holding the hairpin. The doors of the Buddhist hall which had been knocked somewhat open was pushed open. Light shone from inside the hall and shone on the man’s face.
nFor an instant, she felt as if the world was spinning around her. She leaned against the door with a bang and caused the doors of the hall to make a muffled sound.
n“Go in.” The man held her hand and brought her into the hall. The doors of the hall were closed soundlessly. Because there was light, it was as if the warmth of the light was brought to her body. Mo Xuetong immediately regained her senses and shook the hand off her violently. She took a few steps back and looked up again.
nHow could it be him! The devilish-looking young man!
nMo Xuetong looked at the handsome face in front of her. This was the second time they were meeting. Mo Xuetong was once again mesmerized by his appearance. She felt as if she could not breathe.
nThe light in his eyes was like sparkling diamonds. His elegant posture and the way his long narrow eyes rose slightly gave him a sense of focused gentleness and intense emotion. Any woman who looked at him would not be able to help but blush and their heart would beat wildly. They would drown in those eyes. His long black hair was held up by a wooden pin and was scattered casually but he still looked noble and distinguished.
nHis entire being was filled with a wild charm. His spirit was as if it was made to mesmerize others and make their heart beat wildly and involuntarily. They drowned in his gentle and affectionate gaze.
n“What is it? Do you think that I’m handsome? My suggestion last time still counts. I’m still quite satisfied with you.” The extremely handsome man saw that she was looking at him seriously and laughed lowly. “You’re not pretending to be a maid now? You’re not afraid that your mistress will come?” He deliberately drawled out the word “mistress” and looked at her with a vague smirk. He did not seem to mind that she had shrugged off her hand.
nSo he had known long ago that she was not a maid!
nMo Xuetong knew that he was talking about the alley in front of the inn. She backed away and curtsied politely while her mind spun quickly.
nShe had met the person on the hidden path. He did not look like he was from Cloud City. However, she had met him here again. He could not hide his nobleness despite his plain clothing. He was still dressed in the flamboyant purple robe. Other than the intricate embroidery at his collar and sleeves, one could not make out his identity. However, a person like him would not go unnoticed.
nThe secret matter that she had come for had something to do with him!
nThe conclusion was that this person was of noble status and was very dangerous. If she did not want to get burnt, then she should stay as far away from him as possible! His eyes seemed to be full of emotions. However, his hands were cold. Everything in his eyes was hidden deep in the dark depths. He seemed gentle but might strike you fatally when you were not paying attention.
nThis man was not someone she could mess up with!
n“Sir, why have you come?” Mo Xuetong did not wish to waste time. She quickly backed away, her back pressing against the door. She wanted to put a distance between them. She took out the sheet of paper from her sleeves and gave it to him carefully.
nThe man was rather surprised by Mo Xuetong’s avoidance of him. There was a devilish smile on his handsome face. He did not reach out to accept the piece of paper. Instead, he took the hairpin in his hand and flipped it in his hands. He did not return it to Mo Xuetong but kept it in his sleeves instead.
n“I’ll take that as a gift for lying to me the last time.”
n“Sir, look…” Mo Xuetong did not care about a single hairpin. The accessories she brought this time did not have any of her seals. She had asked Mother Xu to buy them from the shops last night. They had nothing to do with her. She lifted the paper in her hands again, gesturing for the man to focus his attention on it.
n“You’re a weak woman living in the courtyards. What kind of danger will you encounter? Do you need secret guards for matters of the inner courtyards?” He finally asked the question with a curl on his lips. He reached out to accept the sheet of paper. He did not look at it and only flicked it casually in his hands. He looked at her sexily.
nThis man was too handsome!
nHowever, Mo Xuetong did not dare to let her guards down. A person like this had appeared on a night like this. This alone was odd. Furthermore, she did not know where the sheet of paper she had came from either. Why could this sheet of paper allow her to ask for two highly trained secret guards? And what was involved in this matter?
nShe was afraid that he would ask too many questions and she would ruin the whole thing if she could not answer them!
nWhat she needed most now were helpers.
n“Sir, how do you know there are not any dangers in the inner courtyards? The inner courtyards are even better at hiding their schemes at harming others than the front courtyard. It is easy to avoid direct attacks, but hard to defend against hidden swords.” Mo Xuetong gritted her teeth and said coldly. There was a hint of sadness in her eyes. Her mother was such a good person, but had died in the struggles of the inner courtyard and had been harmed by Auntie Fang. How could her heart not hurt?
n“Oh, so you’re saying that the situation inside the inner courtyard of the Mo Manor is even more exciting than the killings between men?” The man asked with a smile, a hint of laughter flashing past his eyes.
n“Sir, I came today for the secret guards. Is the item I brought correct?” Mo Xuetong did not wish to have anything to do regarding this matter with a strange and dangerous man. She reminded him helplessly.
n“It is not wrong. But if someone else had come, I would allow you to take two of them as long as I see the sheet of paper. But if it’s you…” The handsome man stroke his bald chin playfully and answered lazily. “Third Young Miss Mo, Mo Xuetong, is it? I am willing to make a gesture of goodwill towards you again.”
n“…” Mo Xuetong bit her lips and said, “I don’t know what sir means…”
nShe was not surprised that a person like him would know her identity.
n“If you are willing to become my maid, I will even give you a team of my secret guards, much less just two. How about it?” The man headed up to her suddenly. He breathed into her ear warmly and laughed.
n“Sir, please respect yourself.” Mo Xuetong lowered her head and looked down. Her expression was cold and distant. “I came only for the two secret guards.”
n“Alright, what are you so nervous about? I won’t eat you up. Since you’re not willing, I will not force you. If you extend your sharp fangs and claws, I’d be the one on the losing end.” The sexy breathing moved away from her slightly. She could only heave a large sigh of relief then. However, she did not understand why he would say that.
n“Clap clap” The man in purple clapped his hands lightly. A man and a woman appeared in the hall immediately.
nThey went up to the man in purple and knelt down…
n“The female one will be called Mo Ye and the male, Mo Feng. One of them will guard you by your side and the other in secret. Will this do?”
n“Many thanks, sir.” Mo Xuetong finally heaved a sigh of relief. The matter had been resolved successfully.
n“Go and greet your new mistress. She will be your mistress from now on.”
n“Greetings, mistress.” The two stood up and knelt on one knee in front of Mo Xuetong. Mo Feng was a young man in his 20s. He had a sharp gaze and one could tell at a glance that he was good at fighting. Mo Ye was a weak and gentle woman who looked very beautiful. One could not tell that she knew martial arts at all.
nMo Xuetong reached out and gestured for them to stand. When they stood up, Mo Xuetong turned to the man in purple and said, “Many thanks for your help, Sir. If you have other needs in the future, I will try my best to help.”
n“As long as you are willing, there will be opportunities for you to repay this in the future.”
nMo Xuetong was a little annoyed when she saw that he was speaking to her informally. She bit her lips and then said, “If there is nothing else, I’ll leave first.”
n“Don’t hurry to go!” The man in purple immediately started to look serious. There was a light dancing in his eyes. He waved his hand and Mo Feng and Mo Yet disappeared. “Third Young Miss Mo, I trust that our conversation earlier will not spread. Right?”
n“Yes. I have never seen you and have never spoken with you.” Mo Xuetong answered steadily.
n“Go!” This time, he acted swiftly and did not make things difficult for her. He waved his hand and gestured for her to leave.
nMo Xuetong walked out of the door. She was covered in cold sweat. Mo Ye was waiting at the door. She went up to help Mo Xuetong and the two started on the path back.
n“Your Highness, there were a few people who barged in earlier and are circling around where you’re staying. They are hiding under the large tree outside your room. What should we do?” A guard emerged from the shadows from deep inside the hall and asked respectfully.
n“They’re here again! Since they’re here, lead them on a nice long walk and have them admire the night scenery of the Repayment Temple.” The man in purple lifted his handsome brows and said lazily. His face was filled with a cold, sinister aura. The faint mocking look in his eyes shone under the light.
n“Yes, I’ll get people to lead them in circles.”
n“The night is looking good. Make them take more circles.”
n“Yes.”
