nThe Giant Demon Prophet’s skin broke and turned black while stinky blood flowed out from its wounds.
nThe Giant Demon Prophet only dropped dead when Lin Jie used up all of his Mana.
nLin Jie jumped down from the beam and rummaged through the items dropped by the Giant Demon Prophet: a ‘Giant Demon Prayer Bamboo Booklet’, a few broken shards, and a gem-like item.
nGiant Demon Prayer Bamboo Booklet: It holds records of the Kalamo Giant Demon’s belief totem. You may choose to follow this religion and receive Element Affinity 1 as a reward.
nOne of The New Age’s specialty features was following a religion. Players could choose to become a follower of a religion when they knelt down and prayed to that religion’s gods. As a follower, one got to enjoy certain welfare such as Skill and Attribute enhancement. During the leveling up of one’s job, for example, when a Bandit leveled up to become a Grand Bandit, a Mage leveled up to become a Grand Mage, one could choose his own Guardian God.
nThe religion which Lin Jie encountered now was a special one. In any case, Lin Jie had no intentions to become the follower of any religion—let alone a religion that was followed by a tribe which was hostile to the players.
nThe gem was named as ‘Fragments of Key’, and there were 5 pieces of such gems in total. When Lin Jie picked up the other broken shards, he couldn’t help but smile.
nShards of the Shield of Courage: Gather 20 pieces of the Shards of the Shield of Courage to make a Shield of Courage.
nThe Shield of Courage was known as the strongest shield any Warrior could own before level 30! Unlike normal shields, any Warrior or Knight could be equipped with that shield, and the shield’s attributes would adjust accordingly. For example, if a Warrior held the shield in one hand and a sword in the other, the shield would adjust its attributes to that of a single-handed shield. If a Shield Specialist used that shield, the attributes of the shield would increase significantly.
nIt was one of the best equipment to be owned by a Warrior in his early levels.
nLin Jie kept the shards and repeated his attacks. He kept using the Feather Drop Gem to climb to a landing spot on a beam and then used the beam to block the Giant Demon Prophet’s damages while attacking it. To boost the effectiveness of his attacks, the reckless Lin Jie even deliberately decreased his health points to enter Death Rage.
nAfter being trapped in this special dungeon for a whole week, he was losing his edge over the other players, and hence he was getting more anxious as the time passed.
nOne by one, each of the Giant Demon Prophets was lured and killed by Lin Jie. His bag was filled with all kinds of shards and fragments. Other than the shards of the Shield of Courage, the Giant Demon Prophets also spawned different fragments of various equipment, but unfortunately… there was only one of each equipment.
nThe sound of mission notification was finally heard when the last of the Giant Demon Prophets died.
n——’Mission completed! You are rewarded with Guild of Light Reputation 120 points and the title of Imperial Sergeant.”
nImperial Sergeant: You are promoted to a ‘Viscount’ in the Guild of Light. Your attack has an additional 15% Light Judgment and 10% Life-Steal, along with the additional skill Light Empathy, Holy Light Halo and Light Recruitment.
nLin Jie tapped on the new skill to check out its details.
nLight Recruitment: You spend gold coins to recruit Priests working at the Holy Church to fight for you.
n– With 100 gold coins, you can recruit Low-Leveled Ascetic Priest Musa.
n– With 3,000 gold coins, you can recruit Mid-Leveled Holy Priest Lamisa.
n– With 50,000 gold coins, you can recruit High-Leveled Bishop Pulime.
nLin Jie’s jaw dropped. This skill was definitely not suitable for any ordinary players.
nAfter waiting for a long time, there was no appearance of any mission notice. Lin Jie heaved a sigh of relief. ‘It’s finally over!’ He looked at the surroundings, feeling rather dumbfounded. ‘How am I supposed to get out of here? The shrine’s entrance is locked.’
nLin Jie considered his options and walked towards the center of the shrine where the Giant Demon Prophets were previously gathered. A doorway was located there, closed with a door that seemed to have no locks. As he neared the doorway, he received a notification.
n-‘You might require a key made of gems.’
nLin Jie had an inspiration. He took out the Fragments of Key gem-like items which were spawned from the Giant Demon Prophets previously and started piecing them together. The moment a black colored gem was formed, its eerie sparkles blasted open the door.
nCreak——
nA small altar came in sight. In fact, the enclosed space looked like a rubbish lot, with just a tiny spot for the altar. A book and a statue of an old Giant Demon was placed on top of the altar.
nAs Lin Jie touched the book, a notification window sprang out.
n-‘Do you want to be bound to the Federal Giant Demon’s Chant?’
nFederal Giant Demon’s Chant (Sub-Legendary Level Equipment)
nRequires: Level 0
nWhenever you level up, three of your Stats points will be decreased randomly, along with Element Affinity 1. Every time you kill a player from the different realm, you gain one Stat point, with a maximum cap of two Stat points to be gained per level.
nAdditional: Giant Demon Blood, Summon of the Giant Demon.
nLin Jie threw the book down quickly. The book was a Sub-Legendary item meant for Federal Giant Demons. Only Giant Demons which regarded elements and souls as their gods would have a use for such an item that harmed others without benefiting themselves.
nA dim light emanated from the old Giant Demon Statue.
n“A human? I am glad you came to my shrine.” An aged Giant Demon projected out from the statue and smiled kindly. “Please forgive me for not being able to greet you properly. As you might have noticed, I have no ability to give you a proper welcome as much as my heart wishes to.”
nLin Jie’s gaze swept swiftly across the rubbish lot-like space, acknowledging its words with a quick nod. Then, he replied, “Your descendants are brutally massacring our commoners.”
nThe old Giant Demon sighed helplessly. “Yes, I can feel it. Ever since that great war, I—the spiritual leader of the Giant Demon tribe—have lost the power to guide them. An evil devil usurped my position and changed my volition, and hence my poor children have fallen to evil…”
nAs the old Giant Demon told his story, Lin Jie began to understand what happened. The Giant Demons served the Tribe of Darkness. Their strong element affinities and hunting abilities placed them in great advantage during the War of the Heavenly Calamity. However, as the Giant Demons fought off the enemies, a devil infiltrated the belief system of the Giant Demon—the Soul of the Giant Demon. The Soul of the Giant Demon worked like the motherboard of a computer, and the old Giant Demon was akin to the system program of the computer. The infiltrator changed the volition of the old Giant Demon and even locked it away. Thus, the misled Giant Demons changed their loyalties and started attacking humans.
nThe old Giant Demon’s eyes gleamed as he spoke in a grievous tone. “Human, if you have the ability to kill my children, will you… let them off?”
n——’Please make your choice:
n1. I will judge them with the kindness of humanity, and forgive their sins
n2. Definitely not, those who commit evil against mankind must die!
n3. I need to consider this decision carefully.’
nLin Jie took a deep breath as it was a crucial decision.
nIf he made the wrong decision, he might be killed instantly by this NPC of unknown level. So… should he help them, or kill them? Or should he just do nothing?
n“I will… kill them.” After pondering for a while, Lin Jie finally replied the old Giant Demon with words befitting of his status. After all, he was a Warrior and belonged to the Guild, which had been attacked by the Giant Demons previously. Other than those stubborn Paladins who had to abide by the creed, no one would show mercy to their enemies.
n“Ah… I understand.” The old Giant Demon waved his hands slightly, placing a scroll in Lin Jie’s hands. ” I will send you out of here.”
n——’You have completed the special dungeon Soul of the Giant Demon to 20% completion, and received an additional reward The Scroll of the Giant Demons’ Death.”
nLin Jie felt a wave of pity—it seemed like he had made the wrong decision.
nWhat he did not know was that other than players who chose the job of Giant Demon of the Tribe of Darkness, all players could only complete the mission to up till 20% completion. It was not the matter of morals at the question in this case, but rather more of the matter of one’s race and species.
nThe Scroll of the Giant Demons’ Death had an overbearing effect. It allowed one to kill all Kalamo Giant Demons within the radius of 2000 yards.
nAs the old Giant Demon gave a big wave of its hands, Lin Jie felt a wave of dizziness. When he regained his senses, he quickly took a look at his surroundings and realized he was barely standing on a small rock protruding out in the middle of the cliff wall. There was only standing space for one person! He hurriedly grabbed onto another protruding rock and checked his bearings. He should be somewhere under the cliff, perhaps midway from the ground level. However, there was no other space for him to stand properly and thus he was unable to activate the returning scroll.
nWith nothing else to help him, Lin Jie could only climb up the cliff by himself. The heavy winds surrounding the cliff made loud howling sounds. It was impossible to activate the Feather Drop skill in this condition, as one might get blown away by the wind and fall down elsewhere. That would be really miserable.
n“Hesh—hesh—”
nLin Jie was delighted at being freed from the dungeon and whistled happily to entertain himself as he climbed upwards.
n————
n“Captain, we have attained levels that are too high for us to gain any EXP points from killing the monsters here. ”
n“Who cares, continue killing the monsters here! I don’t believe that guy will remain down there forever.”
nSilver Shield waved his hands and dismissed his followers, staring resentfully at the cliff. He had the nickname Dogskin Plaster when he was young, as his personality was akin to that of a dogskin plaster—once pasted on, one could never get it off, and if one tried to tear it apart, they would only end up tearing their skin with it! After being killed once by Lin Jie, he began to bear a deep grudge against Lin Jie. He had waited a whole week at the cliff, hoping to get his revenge once Lin Jie made his appearance.
nIf Lin Jie were to know of Silver Shield’s perseverance for revenge, he would have held him in sheer admiration! Such perseverance was surely abnormal!
nThough Silver Shield was determined to wait, the rest were not. For this whole week, his followers had changed to a few different batches of people. In fact, Heavenly Shield made the decision to assign him the ‘grand’ task of training their newbies while he waited for Lin Jie.
nAs such, Silver Shield’s position in his team started to take a downturn. His team captain had just recently been changed to become Mighty Wings.
nAt that moment, a hand suddenly grabbed along the cliff’s edge, trying to hold onto it. The face which they had been waiting for nearly hundreds of hours finally appeared in their vision.
nDing~
n——’You have made an accomplishment and gained the title Master of Climbing. You are rewarded with three additional Endurance points, your health bar capacity is increased by 50 points, and you regain five health points.’
nLin Jie climbed up the cliff, panting heavily as he rolled over and laid sprawled flat out on the ground. The notification sound he heard was nothing compared to how tired he was at this moment.
nIndeed, anyone would be dog-tired from climbing up a cliff.
n“Fu Sheng! You finally appeared!” At last, Silver Shield’s wait was over. He folded his arms, a cold smile spreading on his face. This was a position which he had enacted in his mind countless times, and finally, he could turn it into reality! Graciously and arrogantly, he pointed his right finger at Lin Jie, “Come, let’s duel.”
nLin Jie waved feebly in response. “Wait, I will fight with you after my sleep.”
n
