nBeside the Spirited Lake of the Undead, it seemed as if it were the 18 levels of Hell. A strewn mess of corpses all had their dried up palms stretched out. It was as if there was a ray of hope for survival!
nLin Jie held on to the Death Language Potion, brows furrowed, and searched for a suitable target.
nDeath Language Potion: Number of uses left, 100
/100. Allows you to revive a corpse. This effect has no use on an entity above level 20. When the corpse is revived, there is a 1% chance that it may be converted into your servant.
nLin Jie was surprised! In his previous life, amongst the information that the Potion King Seven Ears had released, the number of times that the Death Language Potion could be used was only 30! Yet the one in his possession could be used 100 times!
nGiven this, the Wretched Thoughts of the dead souls that Allaso required shouldn’t be just that? Lin Jie felt glad. Different people would get different outcomes while performing the same mission. At least this potion proved that uncovering the mission himself was more thorough.
nIf the information was accurate, collecting 30 sets of the dead souls’ Wretched Thoughts was sufficient in exchange for the Perfect Potion Mastery! That ability was of utmost importance to Lin Jie!
nHe carefully swept past the corpses on the floor. The type of monsters that the Death Language Potion could revive was different, and this difference was due to the equipment that they had before they died.
nAlthough Lin Jie had learned Blade Aura Executioner, his equipment was not complete, and hence his output and defense capabilities were not strong. If he were to face a stronger-type Undead or even an Elite Undead, he was sure to die! After some time, he caught sight of a skeleton with a torn and tattered shirt strewn on it – it not only did not have any proper clothing, its hands were also crushed. Lin Jie was ecstatic, as he dropped some of the Death Language Potion onto the corpse.
n‘Ka ch—’ After a long time of unresponsiveness, the skeleton let out a series of knocking sounds, as it dragged its empty body and stood upright.
nCrawling Corpse: Level 3 Undead, Health Points: 140
nThe skeleton that had lost its hands tried to get near Lin Jie. Its skull kept advancing—what a fearsome sight! Lin Jie remained calm and composed and unleashed the Blade Aura!
n-11!
nWith the Bronze Longsword in his hands, Lin Jie no longer had to worry about staying alive with just a sliver of health. The New Age heavily suppressed the attributes of players. While having the idea of prolonging the course of the game, the main purpose was to help players learn about the importance of teamwork. The strength of one person could never match that of a team.
nThe Blade Aura exploded in the skeleton’s chest. It did not feel any pain and kept advancing towards Lin Jie. However, as it did not have arms, it had to use its skull to bite. At this moment, the advantage provided by the longsword and the Blade Aura was evident! The Undead’s attack range was 0.5 yards, whereas that of the longsword was 3 yards and that of the Blade Aura was 10 yards. The movement speed of the skeleton was as slow as a tortoise. Lin Jie simultaneously attacked and retreated and easily killed the skeleton!
nThe skeleton got crushed into pieces and dropped a small bag of Bone Dust and the dead soul’s Wretched Thoughts. The Bone Dust would only have a reduced drop rate if it came from an Undead that had been decomposed for many years. Normal Undead would drop ribcages and broken bones.
nAfter storing the Wretched Thoughts into his bag, Lin Jie proceeded to find his next target. Slow and steady wins the race! After being reborn, Lin Jie became much steadier and more mature! The Undead’s experience worth was very rich. Coupled with Lin Jie’s systemic approach to searching for targets, without using any of his support items, he had already killed nine Undead! His bag was topped up with nine Wretched Thoughts and 12 sets of Bone Dust, which was estimated to fetch about four bronze coins.
nAt that moment, all the broken corpses had already been cleaned up by Lin Jie! The remaining corpses still had an intact body, equipped with a complete set of cloth armor. Some were wearing helmets and wielding longswords! Should that kind of corpse be revived, Lin Jie thought that he would not be able to kill them.
nWhen Lin Jie decided to revive some of the cloth-armored skeletons, he had a shocking discovery! Not far away, in a mud hole, there was a corpse lying in it, and its chest and skull were cracked open! Its helmet and chest armor were partly damaged but apart from that, its armor was pretty much intact, and it even wielded a giant axe!
nThis person was probably a soldier when he was still alive and was left here when he died. His heart and brain juice were already eaten by corpse-consuming ghosts.
nLin Jie looked at the Death Language Potion in his hands and thought, the Death Language Potion provided a 1% chance of converting a revived target into his own servant! However, this soldier had already lost his brain and heart hence his chance of being converted into a servant was increased by 50%! If he were a Spellcaster who learned Dark Magic or a Shadow Priest, the success rate would have been 100%!
nLooking at its outlook, it was at least elite-level!
nLin Jie gulped down his saliva and thought, an elite-level servant was worth the risk! Should the conversion be unsuccessful, there were three huge trees further down in the northwest direction. The trees had very little space between them and could thus be used to block any further advancement!
nAfter making his decision, Lin Jie dripped some Death Language Potion onto the soldier’s body.
n‘Dang—’
nA clear and crisp sound echoed as the Death Language Potion flowed down the decomposed body into its limbs and bones. A wave of strange energy emanated from the body of the soldier. Suddenly, his eyes opened, revealing a ray of blood red light that could almost pierce right through the sky!
nImmediately after, that ray of blood red light got covered by a pale blue and again turned back into blood red.
n“I succeeded! I succeeded!” Lin Jie clenched his fists. As long as the pale blue light triumphed, the soldier would be his!
nThe blood red and pale blue lights kept alternating, and its frequency got higher and higher! Finally, the pale blue light seemed to get an advantage as it started to linger around the soldier’s eyes. Success was imminent! At that moment, a small piece of his heart—the size of a fingernail—fell out from his open chest…
n“Roar—” The soldier’s corpse let out a loud roar, as the blood red light immediately took over his body! It held up his longsword and rushed towards Lin Jie!
n“Which f*cking Undead didn’t finish its meal!” Lin Jie cursed, as he quickly retreated and tossed an Inspect.
nLost Soldier Meijer: Level 3 Rare Elite, Health Points: 450
nIt seemed that misfortune never comes alone. It wasn’t just an Elite—it was a Rare Elite! Rare Elites had a spawn rate a thousand times less than that of a normal Elite. They had their own names and pasts and had stronger capabilities. Hence they also had proportionately better drop rates. Some Rare Elites could even drop items that even Bosses could not drop.
nHowever now… Lin Jie was only completing a mission!
nLin Jie turned his back and started running away with a bitter look on his face towards the trees that he had recognized earlier. However, the Rare Elite’s combined stats were too strong. Its movement speed was very fast, and hence it caught up with Lin very quickly, as he slashed Lin Jie with its sword.
n-49!
n“F*ck!” Lin Jie’s pupils constricted. The Rare Elite’s attributes were too high! Luckily the three trees forming the shape of a triangle were nearby, as Lin Jie squeezed inside!
n‘Dang—’
nHalf a second later, an attack rained down on the trees. The Rare Elite’s longsword had been decomposed for a long time and had lost its sharpness. It got stuck on the tree trunk on its first slash. The soldier, which had a greatly reduced intelligence due to the loss of its brain, tried to retrieve its weapon.
nLin Jie’s eyes brightened, as he immediately took the soldier’s back and attacked it. Using his rapid sword thrusts, a flurry of 8 and 9 health point damages were dealt.
nThe Rare Elite’s defense was no joke either!
nThree seconds later, the Rare Elite’s sword was finally pulled out, as the slashed tree let out a sad howl. The tree trunk was slashed into half! One more strike to the same spot would fell the tree!
nThe Rare Elite’s attack was aimed at Lin Jie once again.
nStrike!
n‘Dang—’
nOnce again the strike landed on the tree!
nLin Jie deliberated. When the weapon got stuck, he had already decided on his battle plan—he would make use of the trees blockage to kill the soldier! Apart from this, Lin Jie intentionally used the fragrance and blood-rich scent of his brain to lure the direction of attack of the Rare Elite’s sword and tried his best to avoid the chopped down part of the tree!
nLooking at the stuck Rare Elite, Lin Jie continued attacking. This time he aimed at the pierced chest and dealt multiple strikes repeatedly!
n-8!
n-7!
n-20! (Weak point attack, critical hit)
nA large number appeared! Attacking the weak point of an enemy would increase between 15% and 40% of the initial damage and coupled with the critical hit, Lin Jie destroyed 4% of the Rare Elite’s health points!
nThe Rare Elite was hurt, as it retrieved its weapon and continued attacking. It was lured to the trees by Lin Jie once again!
nSeconds passed, as Lin Jie used the blocking and baiting method to gradually deplete the Rare Elite’s health points. Success was imminent, experience and equipment were almost in his hands!
n‘Only 10% of Health Points to go!’ Lin Jie was ecstatic. Seven more strikes, at most, would be enough to kill the soldier!
n‘Dang—’
nThis sound had already become the sweetest music to Lin Jie’s ears, as the weapon of the Rare Elite got stuck on the tree trunk once again! The moment when Lin Jie decided to attack, his weapon suddenly revealed a ray of blood red light.
n‘Ka cha—’
nThe tree fell! The Rare Elite roared, and the attack struck Lin Jie’s chest, causing him to fly all the way out!
n-41!
n-49!
nTwo huge numbers appeared as Lin Jie’s health bar dropped dangerously low! This was the ability—Double Strike!
n‘D*mn it, it must have been a skill the Rare Elite would suddenly gain and understand when its life was critically low!’
nLin Jie drank a bottle of Special Health Potion, and his health got restored fully, and in addition, his maximum health was increased by 60. He then sped back to the middle of the three trees. However, when the trees got slashed down by the repeated attacks of the Rare Elite, Lin Jie knew that the blocking method was of no use anymore!
nNow, he had to fight head on!
nLin Jie summoned the Blade Aura and slashed right across the Rare Elite’s body!
n-10!
nAt this moment, the Rare Elite prepared its attack—the Double Strike again! Lin Jie struck once more while it was attacking!
n-47!
n-45!
n-12!
nLin Jie gritted his teeth as his Health Points were down to 110, which was enough to withstand only three more normal strikes! Yet the Rare Elite’s health points still required Lin Jie to slash another three times!
nA gamble was the only option! Lin Jie could only hope that one of the strikes would be a normal strike. This was the only way he could emerge victorious!
n“Come on!” Lin Jie gritted his teeth. The Rare Elite attacked again – it was the Double Strike again!
n-41!
n-49!
n-13!
nLin Jie was only left with a sliver of health! The Health Potion was still on cooldown, but the next strike was essential. If it was another Double Strike again…
nAs if to confirm Lin Jie’s guess, the Rare Elite held his weapon up high and attacked—Double Strike!
n“F*ck it!”
nLin Jie thrust his longsword into the chest of the Rare Elite mercilessly! Although this was a suicidal attempt, as long as it was a critical hit, there was still a chance of an internecine outcome!
nAt this time, a dark fog appeared in front of the Rare Elite’s eyes!
n-MISS!
n-MISS!
n-16 (Weak point damage)
n‘Boom!’
nThe Rare Elite corpse fell heavily!
n‘Ding~’
n—’You have killed the Lost Soldier Meijer. You have gained 2100 experience points (over-level kill). You have gained 100 popularity from the Town of Meyer.’
n
