nCHAPTER 197: ALICE’S INSANITY (II)

nIt wasn’t easy for Chu Ge or Yan Jin to explain their feelings towards Nan Chan.

nIn the midst of their male group, Nan Chan had always received their doting as the only girl. Despite only being cousins, Chu Ge had always treated her as a little sister. Yan Jin had even assumed the responsibility of taking care of Nan Chan after Chu Ge broke off from the Nan Family.

nIt seemed very normal to outsiders that Nan Chan would develop feelings for Yan Jin. However, Yan Jin was very clear that Nan Chan’s love for him was actually an abnormally warped possessive desire.

nWhen they were young, Nan Chan actually wasn’t too close to Yan Jin. Their relationship could be considered very normal. It had only developed rapidly after Chu Ge abandoned everything including his family name and left for an unknown place during Yan Jin’s 17th summer.

nOne of those abandoned “things” was Nan Chan.

n

n

nReality crashed for Alice in Wonderland, leaving Nan Chan all alone.

nAfter discovering some unexpected things Chu Ge wasn’t aware of, Yan Jin recalled his hidden fury when he’d told Nan Chan, “Serves you right.” He also remembered Nan Chan’s retaliation.

nBut, all of Yan Jin’s resentment had faded when Chu Ge asked him to take care of Nan Chan in his place.

nThat was when Nan Chan had changed into the current Nan Chan.

nWith each passing day, her dependence on Yan Jin increased as if they’d never fought. She had returned to her own self-constructed wonderland.

nIf Chu Ge hadn’t so abruptly left Nan Chan’s side, perhaps she wouldn’t have become the way she was today.

nBecause Yan Jin didn’t think it was Chu Ge’s fault, he’d accompanied Nan Chan through all her silly antics for all those years. It wasn’t quite accurate to say that it was all for Chu Ge. Part of it came from commiserating together over shared sorrows. Even now, Yan Jin still somewhat pitied Nan Chan.

nNonetheless, Yan Jin couldn’t indulge Nan Chan forever.

nIf she wanted to entrust anything to him, that would be entirely her decision. Yan Jin wasn’t willing to suffer for it. And, her latest actions had hit his bottom line.

nIt was time to wake her up from her dreamland.

n

n

nWhen he had rejected the engagement, Yan Jin had already prepared an explanation and plan. Originally, he had wanted everyone to sit down together to exchange some trivial gifts and meaningless pleasantries as if nothing was wrong. He hadn’t expected Nan Chan to revolt before he could make his move.

nNan Chan had had countless ways to extract compensation from him, but she had chosen the silliest route. Yan Jin would have even considered it if she’d asked for a share of the global market.

nEven though Nan Chan hadn’t accomplished her goal because Xiao Yu had managed a lucky escape, Yan Jin could no longer keep calm when someone had such evil or killing intent towards his Fishy.

nSitting down currently for a chat now was his last time for leniency. No matter the outcome of their chat, he could not let this loose cannon wantonly run amok any longer.

n“Why? Am I not good enough for you? We’re clearly very well suited for each other. Oh! I know…” Nan Chan’s beautiful face warped. “It’s that guy, he seduced you!”

n“Please don’t talk nonsense about my beloved to me.” Yan Jin unconsciously patted his shirt pocket.

nXiao Yu grabbed Yan Jin’s finger and rubbed his little nose against it.

nEarlier, he’d been truly scared. But now, his fear had been suppressed by other feelings. He felt bad that Yan Jin was facing down Nan Chan alone right now and felt ashamed that he could not stand at Yan Jin’s side as a human.

n“I refuse!” Nan Chan’s voice suddenly jumped. “Why won’t you marry me? You agreed to it to both my family and brother!”

n“I never said anything of the sort. In front of your brother, you never left any favorable impression on me.”

n

n

n“So, now that you have what you want, you’re going to burn your bridges?” Nan Chan jumped up from the sofa. She spat out, one word at a time, “If brother hadn’t left, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. You know what happened to Tangtang—”

nShe stopped abruptly.

nIt was as if her plug had been disconnected. When she restarted again, her entire system seemed to have reset.

n“Let’s not fight. Fighting isn’t good.” Nan Chan sat back down onto the sofa. She lifted her teacup and smiled. After a drink, she set it down and said, “If that guy wasn’t here, would you have picked me?”

nYan Jin repressed a desire to mock her and casually responded, “Why do you think I came?”

n“To get me to release your little boyfriend?” Nan Chan laughed.

n“To convince you to turn yourself in and plead guilty for a reduced sentence. The penalty for attemped abduction is much lighter than that of attempted murder.”

nNan Chan’s smile slowly became stiff. She had long suspected that Yan Jin could only come here so calmly because he had a trump card prepared. She hadn’t wanted to give any reaction to anything Yan Jin said, but Yan Jin’s attitude was really quite unnerving.

n“Sorry, let me make a call. Please wait a moment,” Nan Chan said.

nYan Jin gestured for her to go ahead.

n

n

nAfter Nan Chan departed to the next-door lounge, Yan Jin finally took his hand out of his pocket.

n“*Squeak*.” Nan Chan is really scary, Xiao Yu squeaked.

n“It’s fine. She’s always been like this.”

n“*Squeak*?” You think this is normal?

n“It’s fine. Everyone’s personality is different. Nan Chan has always been this illogical.”

n“*Squeak squeak squeak*.” I don’t know what she was like before; I only know that she’s currently not a normal person. Look around you. Isn’t this place the same as your office? She’s definitely mentally ill, for sure!

nAt Xiao Yu’s prompt, Yan Jin looked around Nan Chan’s office.

n“It does look very similar,” Yan Jin muttered.

nIt was so obvious, yet Yan Jin had only just noticed it. Perhaps it was because he could discern others’ true thoughts that he didn’t pay attention to anything else.

nHe and Nan Chan had some similarities. Both of the excessively relied on their resources to entrench themselves in their own world.

n

n

n“*Squeak*.” You should suggest her to see a psychiatrist. She’s like a lunatic right now.

nXiao Yu could no longer resist the opportunity to mock her.

n“*Squeak*.” How are you able to talk to her normally? See, she changed from cute and helpless to exploding. I would have run away and called the police. She’s exactly like a mental asylum patient…

n“… You’re right. She’s been mentally ill for a very long time.”

nYan Jin petted Xiao Yu’s little head that was poking out. Then, he spoke so softly as if to himself, “The Nan Family really can’t be permitted to proceed like this.”

nXiao Yu thought he heard a very deep sigh.

n“… Sorry for the long wait.”

nWhen Nan Chan returned, her facial color wasn’t normal. She had probably been informed that her arranged abductors had been stopped for stealing an expensive car.

n“As expected of Brother Yan! You were able to save him.” Nan Chan laughed beautifully like they weren’t talking about crime and abduction. “You were able to protect him this time, but you won’t always be able to… I’m going to try again and again until I eliminate that slut from your life.”

nXiao Yu shivered from inside Yan Jin’s pocket. He couldn’t imagine these evil words coming from a barely twenty-two-year-old young lady.

nYan Jin wasn’t provoked in the least. He calmly asked, “So, the only way to convince you to give up is to marry you?”

nNan Chan nodded with a smile.

n“You think that the Nan Family will shield your recklessness?” Yan Jin’s words were filled with dark humor and confidence.

n“Why wouldn’t they?” Nan Chan retorted in the same manner. “A fierce dragon cannot overcome a local tyrant. We’re in China right now, so even you need to concede before the Nan Family. If I did something big, that would be an inconvenience, but I’m only looking to clean up some nobody. I’m the Nan Family’s only successor. Why wouldn’t they help me?”

n“The only successor?” Yan Jin picked at her words.

n“You must be dreaming if you want to use Nan Wei to pressure me. What can he do?” Nan Chan sneered. “We don’t even know whose blood runs inside that bastard. How can he say anything?”

n“If I haven’t misremembered, you also aren’t part of the main line.”

nNan Chan sneered again. “Are you pretending to be dumb? You think I don’t know about the gene project? However you were born, I was born. Two monsters, destined to be together.”

n“… Even if you look down on Nan Wei, what about the other one?”

n“You’re right.” Nan Chan’s smile widened. She looked like a doll whose facial system had broken. “I agree that Brother will attend our wedding. He will definitely come to his most lovable little sister’s wedding. If he also returns to the Nan Family, everyone will be happy.”

n“There will be no wedding, and that day will never come.”

n“Huh? You think that because the slut escaped, I don’t have any recourse?

n“You can try to abduct him as many times as you want… but you won’t ever have the opportunity again. I won’t allow it,” Yan Jin declared.

n“Just letting you know, I don’t think I’ll lose to you on this. But, seeing how you’ve already sent yourself here, that makes things much easier.” Nan Chan stood up and took two steps forward.

nHer high heels were left behind.

nYan Jin sensed something wrong and subconsciously dodged to the side. Nan Chan’s lunge met empty air.

n“There’s surveillance in the office. You can’t run.” Nan Chan licked her lower lip and slipped off her dress’s shoulder strap. “Believe me, you’ll find out very quickly that being with a woman is much better than being with a man.”

nYan Jin looked at Nan Chan’s askew attire and felt uncomfortable. He got up somewhat hurriedly and began to run for the door.

nNan Chan pursued closely behind.

n“That’s enough!” A severe voice sounded from the entrance.

n
