Ning slowly shook his head, his eyes unwilling to look at her and only the balding man.

The man slowly turned his head and looked at Redaime. “Captain Redaime! What are you doing here? I told you to get to work quickly.”

“Right away, General. This officer just had something important to report to me,” she said and turned around to Ning. “I don’t have time to waste, Chief Officer. Tell me the description or get out of here.”

Ning felt conflicted. Could he tell the Captain what was going on? Would she believe him? The worst problem was that he did not have evidence just yet.

Redaime looked at Ning with a frown, seeing that he was staring back at the General behind her.

She looked at Ning and then back at the General and then at Ning.

“Walk with me, Chief Officer,” she said and began walking.

Ning quickly followed her, side by side as others began following her, but a bit behind.

After a considerable distance away, she stopped and sent the others without her.

“Tell me, did you break into General Cord’s house last night?” she asked, gesturing clearly to the General they had just left.

Ning was taken aback. “How did you know?” he asked.

“Do you know where Harper is right now?” she asked.

Ning shook her head. “On some mission from what I hear,” he said.

“She’s on a mission to find the person who thief who broke into General Cord’s home last night,” she said with a smile. “She out to find you.”

Ning didn’t know what to say. Had he just outed himself as a criminal by mistake?

“Am I getting arrested?” he asked.

Redaime grinned. “No, but you better tell me everything that happened yesterday,” she said.

Ning nodded and explained all he could without going through the weird details of him being turned to stone or such.

“I followed the young man to his house and it turned out to be the General’s home. I was inside trying to learn more about his rank when I was noticed. So I dove out of the window and ran away.”

“I see,” Redaime said, her eyes lost in thought.

“Is that bad by any chance? Did I screw up somehow?” he asked.

Redaime shook her head. Her seemed to take on a different glow now, one from someone who only wanted to do good to one who wasn’t against playing a bit unfairly.

“No, it’s not bad. In fact, if what you are saying is true, then it is very good news,” she said. “Tell me, do you have any evidence?”

“Not really,” Ning said. “We can catch his son in the act, but I don’t know if that will implicate the father.”

“You said he gets part of the payment from this leader fellow,” Redaime said. “Do you know what he does to help them?”

“I… do not know, but I can find out,” Ning said.

“Find out,” Redaime ordered. “Once you find that out, we can then capture the Leader too. Then we can look into both of their transactions and prove that he was indeed taking money from the leader.”

“Even if we can’t prove that he was helping the man, we can at least prove that he was taking a bribe to not capture the leader. That much should be enough,” Redaime said. “That will get rid of him for good.”

Ning nodded. He could help them with everything the captain was intending. But… would that be the right thing to do?

“Would there be any sort of backlash on trying to get our own General captured? How will the other Generals react? What about the Majors and Major General?” Ning asked. “What if this one thing sends a large enough shockwave through the entire structure that it all comes collapsing back on us.”

Redaime scoffed. “You don’t worry about that. Let me handle whatever comes back at us. Anything coming our way will be worth it,” she said. “That man will be captured and a post will open. Given what I will be doing, I will become the next General.”

She turned to Ning. “And you will get a promotion too. You’ll no doubt be a Lieutenant after this. Get ready for that,” she said.

Ning was somewhat taken aback by the captain’s rather enthusiastic outlook on the future. Here he was worried that the world that was built on a military system would have more repercussions when trying to go against it, and this woman in front of him was happy to do so.

Ning felt rather enthusiastic about the future too.

“Okay,” he said. “Let’s see where it all goes then. I’ll get you the evidence you need.”

Redaime nodded. “How long will it take you?” she asked.

“3 days,” Ning said. “They’ll gather in 3 days. At that time, I’ll wait for them to get into making more Dust. Then I’ll let you know where they are gathered. You can come and capture them all red-handed.”

“The General’s son is bound to be there no doubt, and you can catch him there as well. Then, it will all blow up on the General’s face,” Ning said. “You may as well already look forward to becoming a General.”

Redaime chuckled. “Alright, you don’t need to be so familiar with me. Go and do your job. I’ll let Harper and the rest know to not look for you.”

Ning nodded. “I’ll take my leave, Captain.” He gave one last salute and left the place, making his way back to his room. After spending some time planning the next part of his mission. There were 3 more days, but that was not to say there was nothing to do in those 3 days. Ning decided to go and see if he could learn more about the Leader. There were bound to be more things he could learn about the man now that he knew what he looked like.
