n1618 Ning’s Power

nNing took Shara to another tavern while making her wear some robes to hide herself and got her a room inside it. He had gotten his stuff from the other tavern, so he was going to stay here too.

nThey were in different but adjacent rooms, so should there be any trouble, he would hear it. Hopefully.

nHe couldn’t trust his human hearing anymore. He hadn’t even noticed that his conversation with Shara in the tavern had been eavesdropped on.

nHe shook his head as he sat on the bed, with a small oil lantern burning at the side for light.

n“Status page,” he said with a sigh.

nHe had completed the quest to relocate Shara, so he now had enough points to buy the potion he had been wanting.

nNing bought the Minor UNIQUE Energy replenishment Potion. Its description stated that it replenished his energy amount for the current world’s energy by a bit. There was no exact amount detailed, which was frustrating, but there was nothing Ning could do. He had thought of buying a random weapon but decided against it. With 2 points, any sort of weapon he could buy, he could buy at a weapon shop easily.

nSo, that was all there was to it.

nNing opened the small glass bottle with the potion inside of it and drank it. When he was done, the glass disappeared, only the potion within it remaining in his mouth.

nThe potion had a… weird sensation to it, almost as though it did not exist. Ning could feel the potion inside of his mouth, but there was not a hint of taste to it. That wouldn’t be so surprising, but there wasn’t even a lack of taste to it.

nIt was a weird experience to explain, like something invisible, but for the tongue. He gulped it down regardless and then felt energy flowing through his body.

nLike a man who had been walking in a desert for days and had finally found water, the feeling of getting that energy was akin to quenching a long thirst.

nNing let the power flow within him and through him. It took a few moments to settle, but when it did, it was ready for him to use.

n“That’s what I’m talking about,” Ning said to himself, happy that he finally got the energy. Which meant he also got some sort of power.

nAs for what the power was, it was time to find out.

nThere were 4 possibilities for how his powers worked. It was the possibility for how any powers worked.

nIt either affected him, affected someone else, affected something else, or affected nothing and simply happened.

nA power to enhance one’s physical strength would be considered to affect oneself.

nA power to poison someone else would be considered affecting someone else.

nA power to transmute an object would be considered to affect something else.

nThe power to create water or ice would be considered to affect nothing.

nNing willed himself and used whatever his power was on himself. He waited for a bit, but he sensed no lack of energy in himself. That hadn’t worked.

nHe took out the knife he had gotten from that thug and used the power on it. Once again nothing happened. ‘I don’t have people to test my powers on,’ he thought. ‘I hope my powers aren’t that sort.’

nHe tested what he could. He used his powers to create something before him. It worked.

nNing felt a bit of the energy that he had, about a tenth in total, being driven out of his body into something before him.

nHe happily looked for what it was but saw nothing in front of him at all.

n“Wait, where’s my thing?” he asked, looking around. Had it rolled away or something? Or was it tiny? “Shit, I hope it’s not some sort of poison gas.”

nHe quickly closed his nose, but he couldn’t remain in the room for long if the gas was indeed poisonous. He decided to leave the room just in case as his body was ever the mortal at the moment.

nHe got up in a hurry to leave and slammed against something before being rebounded back into the bed.

n“Ouch! My nose,” Ning said, holding onto the bridge of his nose. He had slammed onto whatever it was before him quite strongly. He looked up front but saw nothing there at all.

nSo, he reached out slowly and felt something flat and solid in front of him, like a big wall, but completely invisible. It didn’t even refract light.

n‘A Barrier?’ Ning thought. He had received a barrier technique?

nHe felt the barrier with both hands, checking around to see its full size. He wanted to check the thickness of it but was surprised to find that such a thing may not exist at all.

nThere was no width to the barrier, just the area. Where there should have been a width, there was nothing. What was there, however, was a sort of resistance.

nIf you moved your hand toward the barrier, it felt as though you were swimming in more and more viscous liquid until you couldn’t move your hand anymore.

nSo while it had no width, Ning couldn’t suddenly use the barrier as a cutting technique.

nNing knocked on the barrier, trying to see just how strong it was. He hit the barrier a few times, noticing its durability. He tried stabbing it with his knife too, and realized it was resistant to that as well.

nHe didn’t know how durable it was, but as he was, he couldn’t break it himself.

n‘What about destroying it myself though?’ Ning thought and raised his hand.

n“Dissolve!”

nHe didn’t feel any power leaving his body, but he could tell something had happened. He reached out to touch the barrier and as expected, it was gone.

nNing stayed back at the bed, thoughts running through his head. There was so much more he needed to know, but he didn’t have any energy to waste.

nFor now, it was time for him to sleep.
