Chapter 1646: The Onyx Empire

nThe Onyx empire, which started off as a relatively average empire from the southwestern corner of the continent, now ruled the entire continent.

nThe name of the continent, Onyx Continent, came from the Empire as well. The Onyx Empire made its name around the continent, and at its throne, Emperor Gohlhog was known by the whole world.

nThe Empress gave birth to a set of twin sons, each of which grew to be formidable princes. Even though they grew at a time of peace after the war, the princes were trained as though the war was around the corner at each moment.

nAnd then, after years, it came time for the Emperor to choose the heir to the throne.

nThe Emperor tried his best, but he could not choose a single son out of the twin. Both were equally capable and neither was older to have a right over the other.

nAnd yet, there were members of his court who seemed divided on which son was better for the throne. The discourse he had to listen to every day was not worth it.

nIn the end, he decided on something simple. The two brothers would take part in a duel, and the one who won would give the throne.

nThe one who lost wasn’t left with nothing either. He would be given a kingdom to the north, past the Fool’s pass. The empire was already divided into multiple kingdoms that were all subordinates of the Onyx throne, so the Emperor decided that it was the right choice to give one of those kingdoms to his other son.

nThe duel took place at noon during the winter solstice, where the two brothers fought. The fight itself was not documented at all. The victor then became the heir to the Onyx throne, while the other was sent to the Kingdom of Ogana, which was then changed to the Kingdom of Gohlhog.

nThe two brothers didn’t have any dent in their relationship due to the divide and instead became closer afterward as there was nothing that the two had to fight each other for.

nVolter Gohlhog, the Conqueror, abruptly died some years later.

nThe two separated families remained separated with one ruling the Onyx throne, while the other ruling the Kingdom of Gohlhog while remaining under the throne.

nTime passed and generations changed. The two remained close, but only by formality. There was no familial bond between the two as their ancestors were long dead.

nThe Onyx continent focused on its own thing. Then, nearly 80 years ago from now, was born a man who would be the next in line for the throne.

nAnd that would be the worst Emperor the continent had ever had.

nThe man, Vlahador Gohlhog, took the throne at the age of 40, and within 5 years of ruling, he had made several decisions that were simply terrible for everyone living in the empire.

nTaxes were increased all around, people were killed for the smallest mistakes, and worst of all, the new Emperor began preparing armies to conquer more in the name of his great- ancestor.

nHe was so focused on conquering more, that he left most of his people to die and suffer. And the people of the empire did not like this at all.

n5 years later, 10 years after the new Emperor took the throne, there was a revolution. People within the Empire fought against the corrupt Emperor, killing him after a long period of suffering, and bringing freedom to the people living in it.

nNot only did they kill the Emperor, but they also killed or exiled anyone who had a say in the Onyx throne.

nWhen those people were gone, the King of the Gohlhog kingdom came to the now ruler-less empire and proclaimed his right to be the new Emperor. He promised to do right where the previous emperor had done wrong, but not a single citizen wanted a new ruler.

nThey banded together and sent the king back to his kingdom. Then, they changed their name. They were no longer an Empire, but a group of free individuals who would make their own nation.

nThey called the place ‘The Golden Republic’.

nThe Gohlhog Kingdom wasn’t happy. They changed their name too, changing from a Kingdom to an Empire, and quickly called themselves the new Emperor of the land.

nSome accepted, while some didn’t. They would only accept when they sat on the Onyx throne. For now, they had no way of getting to it.

nSo, the King, now an Emperor, of the Gohlhog empire quickly declared war against the Golden Republic.

nThe war started some 30 years ago and has been continuing ever since. Despite the fact that the Golden Republic was a single nation against many different ones, they managed to

npersevere.

nThey had a natural fortress thanks to the Flayan Mountain range, and the only two ways of entering the nation without going through the mountain were the two narrow passes that were the Largan’s Pass and the Fool’s Pass.

nFor 30 years, the Republic had managed to not lose the war. And to this day, the war still continued.

nNing flipped through the book, reading about the cultures and the arts of the past. Nothing there spoke of the powers at all. He flipped and flipped and finally arrived at the end of volume 1. nThere were multiple times in the book that were scratched out with a pen. Ning paused for a second, and read what it said.

n‘The leader of the 18th battalion was a . With fought and won the battle, but due to . As a to the , he was given great .’

n“Goddamit, I can’t read anything. What is it trying to say?” Ning wondered. He tried to put the page up against the light but that didn’t work. How was he to find what was written there? And why the hell was it redacted in the first place?
