nNing read the notification but barely had any mental prowess at the moment to go through it. All he could do was let his entire body weight fall on Shara, who was helping him walk to the city.
nShara looked around, conscious of every other person who walked toward them or by them. She looked so very troubled that anyone who noticed her would immediately stop her to ask what had happened. Not to mention Ning with his missing arm.
nThankfully, both of them were completely invisible at the moment and would be for the next 12 hours.
nNing had used the scroll of Minor Teleportation to escape away from where they had been. If he hadn’t used that, he didn’t believe he could get out of that enclosure.
nOnce they had teleported 50 meters away from the battleground, Ning had immediately used the Scroll of Invisibility as well, which had allowed him to not be found by the many soldiers that had nearly come to where they had been.
nIt had been half an hour since then and they had made their way back to the town.
nNing ended up spending 25 of the 30 points he had received from learning what Shara was and killing the Earl to just escape.
nThankfully, escaping had given him another good chunk of points.
n‘I need to heal,’ he thought. The Lesser healing potion cost 5 points. He needed to consume that when he could.
nBut his mind… his mind was so cloudy right now. It was so difficult to think about anything straight.
nBecause all of the adrenaline Ning had been feeling the entire time had gone from his system now that the danger had passed away, his body felt limp and the pain was mind-consuming.
nHe was barely keeping himself awake by sheer willpower. He knew he could not fall unconscious right now. Not when neither of the two of them were safe just yet.
nShara continued walking. She wasn’t hurt during the battle, but she had trouble helping Ning move this far away. She used Ning’s spear to help with the journey.
nThey arrived at the city, the broken wall of the place that had once been very fortified allowed for people to enter and exit without much checking.
nShara managed to sneak in easily.
n“We can’t go to a tavern, can we?” she asked softly.
nNing wanted to answer, but he couldn’t move his lips. He was in so much pain.
nShara took a deep breath and continued walking down the busy street. She had to mostly stick around the alleyways or remain flat around the front of the shops so others wouldn’t collide with them.
nWhatever happened, she couldn’t let anyone know she was there.
nThere were people out here to kill her. Why? Why would soldiers from the Empire come to kill her?
nReaper. What did that mean? She was a Reaper, apparently, so why did she have to die for it?
nThe director of the Spirit Department back in Whitebridge had mentioned the fact that this had something to do with her father.
nHer father. Was he a Reaper too then? If that was true then why didn’t people try to kill-
nShiela’s heart sank as the realization set in for her. “No…” she said softly.
nHer father and mother had died when they were traveling in Lenes. It was said that they had died in an accident, but… was that true?
nWhat if… what if just like her, her father was hunted as well… and killed.
nShara’s breathing got shallower and she began hyperventilating at the thought that her father and mother hadn’t died a natural death. They had been murdered.
n“No no no no no no no no no no no…”
nNing noticed what was happening, but couldn’t tell why. He wanted to speak, but once again, he was unable to.
nShara continued hyperventilating for a while, completely unmoving. She remained at the side of the road with her back against one of the glass windows of a shop.
nShe breathed in and out for a long while before she began calming down. She was still in severe shock at the possibility of how her father had died.
nBut… she couldn’t let that affect her. Not right now.
nShe stood up, pulling Ning up with her with the help of the spear, and walked forward.
nAs soon as she took a step forward, a man walked out of the shop, directly walking into them. ‘No!’ Shara thought. They were going to collide. They were going to be noticed.
nNO!
nThe man walked onto them… and then through them, not noticing that he had come across two people.
nShara paused for a long second. ‘How…?’ she thought, not understanding the situation. But the answer came to her just about as quickly. Sёarch* The Novelƒire(.)ne*t website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
nThis wasn’t the first time something had passed through her. No, this was the same thing that had happened when that man had tried to kill her with the sword.
nShe hadn’t seen exactly what had happened, but the sword had passed right through her.
nShe had made it so things went right through her.
n‘I did this?’ she thought, confused at the moment. ‘Is this my power?’
nHer power was supposed to be the ability to create ice, wasn’t it?
n‘No, I ran out,’ she thought. She had used her power on instinct when she had to kill that man
nwho had nearly got her.
nThen she had run out and seen those corpses. They had tried to take her and…
n‘And I absorbed their energy. I lost all my energy and gained more. So… I gained a new power,
ndidn’t I?’ she thought.
nShe had never thought that she was going to get a new power. This was… great.
nA power to make not just herself but Ning pass right through things.
n“I will save us, Ning,” she said softly, feeling the motivation to survive grow inside of her. “I won’t let you die.”
