Chapter 1735 Ascending the Tower
?Several frogman warriors stationed on the upper platforms of the tower jumped down to meet Disco Rain and the others who were on their way up.
Nogg jumped over both Will and Disco Rain to meet these frogmen. His trident shone with a green glow. The trident turned into multiple green shadows that thrust at high speed. Each stab delivered strong wind energy with knockback effects.
Three of the front-row frogmen were knocked away from Nogg's assault. One failed to regain a foothold and fell from a great height. Two were close enough to the tower's wall. They kicked the wall with their strong legs and jumped back to the platform they came from.
"Go!
" Nogg told Will and Disco Rain.
The two didn't hesitate. They jumped to the upper platform on the opposite side while Nogg guarded the other side.
The frogmen didn't just come from one side. They jumped down randomly from the upper platforms. Will and Disco Rain soon found another two frogmen jumping in their direction.
The Hellion Panther caught up then. It lunged at the two frogmen. One was slapped away from the tower, effectively throwing the frogmen down to the floor below. The other one was snatched by its maw. The panther landed on another platform. It took another bite at the frogman as it landed. The bite was done with its special skill, Consume Soul. The small chance of instant kill from the bite was triggered. The frogman was killed.
Kishale was still on the hellion panther's back. She fired her bow which shot multiple ice arrows at the frogmen who were still jumping down.
Will and Disco Rain didn't waste the chance. They continued making their way up while their comrades kept the frogmen busy.
Vodyan, who was in the sky, glanced at Disco Rain and Will who were making their way up to the top of the tower. He wanted to stop those two but he had his hands full.
Gurume had returned and he cast lightning spells non-stop at Vodyan. The one who was directly fighting Vodyan was Purple Mist. Vodyan at first thought the outworlder had overestimated herself. She had the class from the healer branch. How dared she engage him at close range?
But after several exchanges, Vodyan no longer looked down on the outworlder.
Purple Mist was much weaker and slower than Vodyan. She was a magic class, after all. Her strength and dexterity stats were not that well-developed. However, her mana sense and perfect body control allowed her to dodge Vodyan's attacks with minimal movements.
She didn't do it with ease, though. Even though she had a higher level than Vodyan, which was level 80, the frogman chief was a mythical grade. Even now, only a handful of players could go toe-to-toe against a mythical grade of the same level. One needed to be fully garbed in unique equipment, have at least a unique-grade bloodline, and at least a normal special class.
Purple Mist didn't fulfil all the conditions. She wore three unique equipment, but the remaining were super rare grades. She had a bloodline but it was a super rare grade. The only condition she fulfilled was her special class. Her Priest class had changed to Cleric, a normal special class.
She was able to cover her shortcomings all due to her martial expertise. She only focused on dodging. Almost all her dodges were accomplished with a slight margin. Due to this, there were several times when she failed to dodge. At that time, she used her healing spells to keep herself alive. Her lesser angel also aided her in providing healing and protective spells.
The most troublesome skill from Vodyan was his tongue strike. It was very fast and had a short cooldown. Luckily, Purple Mist successfully dodged this skill every time Vodyan used it. She paid extra attention to Vodyan's mouth and made sure to get out of the tongue's trajectory when the mouth started opening.
Failing to defeat Purple Mist and seeing Disco Rain continuing her progress up the tower, Vodyan was getting restless. This caused him to make a mistake.
Purple Mist didn't let go of this chance. Her hand shot forward and struck Vodyan's throat. This slightly stunned the frogman. Her hands carried on with several fast strikes that accurately hit Vodyan's pressure points and prolonged his stun. Purple Mist had learned through experimentation that almost all the humanoid monsters possessed the same pressure points as humans. This frogman was no different.
Vodyan was startled. He could feel that Purple Mist's strikes were weak. He didn't lose much HP from them, but why did he feel his power draining from him? His body couldn't move when he wanted to retaliate. He could only stare when Purple Mist lifted her magic staff which glowed with sacred light. That glowing staff went down on his head. When the blow connected, he could feel that it was not a weak strike.
The first skill gained after becoming a cleric was Pious Bash. It was a highly damaging strike that dealt light-element damage. Purple Mist didn't even need to form a spell formation as it was classified as a melee skill.
After becoming a Cleric, Purple Mist gained limited melee abilities. She could even wear light armor like the inquisitor if she chose to, but she didn't have good quality light armor to replace her current cloth armor, so she kept wearing her usual equipment.
The Pious Bash sent Vodyan plunging. Gurume added a combo of lightning rays and lightning strikes. The repeated lightning assault sent Vodyan crashing to the deck floor below. Gurume then cast a spell that formed a lightning cage around the downed Vodyan.
Vodyan slammed his pincer onto the floor in fury, causing the deck floor to crack. He uttered an inhuman roar as he got back up. The lightning cage electrocuted his body trying to keep him down. With sheer force, he broke the lightning cage.
He opened his mouth and his tongue shot out with lightning speed. Gurume was within range of his tongue strike. The tongue stuck to Gurume's leg and coiled around it. Gurume was then pulled toward Vodyan and slammed violently into the floor.
Disco Rain and Will ignored all the battles happening around them. They just continued making their way up to the glowing orb at the top of the tower.
Their climb was stopped when they were getting near. They found two treants bigger than normal were occupying the two platforms above them. The tower was smaller as they went higher. The tower had become so small at this height that their path forward was only through those two platforms.
Additionally, some sort of vines were circling the tower, forming a fence above these large treants. These vines were wriggling as if alive.
Standing atop this living fence was Linda.
