Chapter 74 - Generous Rewards
n
n
n'Boom'
nSawyer's head blasted like a watermelon as blood and brain mucas spilt everywhere.
n'...'
nReece and Harper looked at the scene of Sawyer's head and then speechlessly looked at Lucas wondering, 'Why did he want to silently leave when he had such a powerful talisman with him?'
nHowever, they didn't bother to ask Lucas; instead, they were excited after seeing the monster that killed their friends.
n
"I wanted to save the talisman for later use; however, you two wanted to avenge your friends. So, I don't have a choice other than using it up.
"
nAs though he sensed what they were puzzled with, Lucas explained the reason for his earlier behaviour.
n'Also, I needed him to tire himself out and should be completely focused on the shadow wyvern; otherwise, he would have dodged it without much difficulty.'
nLucas didn't tell these words to them; instead, he muttered them to himself.
n'Swoosh'
nWith the death of Sawyer, the vines that were binding Lucas and others turned into ashes.
n'Ding,
nCongratulations to the host for successfully completing the mission 'Help the adventurers'.
nLucas got the system notification informing him about the completion of the mission.
n
"Putong
"
n
"Young master, thanks for saving us and helping us in avenging our friends. We swear to follow the young master's words even if it costs us our lives.
"
nAs soon as the vines disappeared, both Harper and Reece fell to their knees and swore their loyalty to him.
nEven though they already decided to follow Lucas, they wanted to complete the standard procedure of becoming the followers.
n
"Hm
"
nLucas didn't stop them as he allowed them to kneel for a few seconds before saying,
"You can stand up now and go back to your place. Finish all your matters and come to the Raindrop manor.
"
nSince Lucas still had a mission to complete, he asked Reece and Harper to leave the wilderness.
n
"We will finish our things as soon as possible and look for you, Master.
"
nThey changed their way of addressing as they politely said those words to Lucas.
nWithout wasting any time, they pick the ten corpses before saying goodbyes to Lucas.
n'Before I check the rewards for killing the tier 1 general knight, let me check on the shadow wyvern.'
nLucas slowly walked towards the rank 4 shadow wyvern which was still alive; however, it would not live for much longer.
nSo, Lucas thought, why not get the free rewards from killing a rank 4 spirit beast?
n
"I will put you out of your misery now.
"
nSoon, Lucas walked to the shadow wyvern and looked at the helplessly lying shadow wyvern on the ground, Lucas said those words in an emotionless tone before holding his short sword to kill it.
n'Growl'
nHowever, when it heard Lucas's words, the shadow wyvern growled at Lucas with a serious look in its eyes.
n'Huh?'
nLucas retracted his short sword as he asked,
"You don't want me to put you out of your misery?
"
nIn his previous life, Lucas had never seen such a look in his target's eyes when they were about to get killed.
nThey would either give up or beg him to let them live; however, the shadow wyvern looked at Lucas as though it didn't want Lucas to put it out of its misery.
n'Ding,
nThe shadow wyvern didn't want to die. You can either help it by giving the rank 3 evil beast core or kill it before selling its carcass.
nJust as he was feeling interested with the Shadow wyvern's attitude even in its last moment, Lucas received a system notification.
nUnlike the previous system tasks or missions, he could choose whatever he wanted to do.
n'Hm...if I sell its carcass, I can get around 5000 to 10000 gold coins and if I auction it off, it would go even higher.'
n'If I save it, from its attitude, it would not accept anyone as its master. Which means I will be wasting the rank 3 beast core I got from the dungeon for nothing.'
n'From any perspective, killing it will be the best choice; however, if I do it, then there is no difference between my previous life and my current life.'
nLucas started thinking about his choices and after thinking for a few seconds, Lucas came to a conclusion,
"Eat it and recover your strength. I will guard you until you recover a little strength.
"
nThat's right! After fighting his inner consciousness for a while, Lucas tossed the beast core into the shadow wyvern's mouth before using the 'Basic heal' spell once.
nBefore entering this world, Lucas was thinking of reincarnating in a world without killing, even if that was not possible, at least he didn't have to follow the same path as he did in that life.
nHowever, the reality was cruel and now, he didn't want to stop killing until he was absolutely powerful in this firmament world.
nBut, he thought, he had to overcome the ecstasy of killing. Instead of mindless killing, he should be in control of whom he wants to kill and that's begun with the shadow wyvern.
n'...'
nThe shadow wyvern looked at Lucas and squinted trying to figure out what his motive was behind helping it.
n'Stop squinting and recover your strength quickly. I have other things to do.'
nAfter casting the spell, Lucas nonchalantly replied to the shadow wyvern before walking towards Sawyer's headless corpse to take his space ring.
nAs for the shadow wyvern, it was unable to find out Lucas' motive; however, it consumed the rank 3 beast core and started absorbing the energy from it.
n'As long as I recover my strength, I will go back to the Viscount grounds.'
nThis was the only thought in its head and as for Lucas, surprisingly, it didn't show any hostility towards him.
n'At least the hostility in its eyes has decreased.'
nEven though he decided to let the shadow wyvern live, he was keeping an eye on it and if it continued to look at him with hostile eyes, Lucas didn't mind killing it.
n'He is a general knight; however, now, he is lying in his own pool of blood.'
nAfter taking the space ring from Sawyer's finger, Lucas looked at his headless body and shook his head.
nNo matter how powerful you are in this world, no one knows when you will die.
nActually, Sawyer was on his mission and noticed a famous lightning squad adventurer team. Even though he knew that they didn't see him at first, he just wanted to reason to kill them as he got addicted to killing and that's the reason he was stationed in the wilderness by the weapons pavilion's head.
nHowever, that addiction to killing cost his life today.
n'Even though I don't know what mission you are doing in this wilderness, if you focused on that mission, you would have still been alive'
nLucas muttered to himself as he once again checked the system notifications he got from killing Sawyer.
n'Ding,
nThe host killed a Tier 1 General Knight with a 'Spell talisman'.
n'Ding,
nThe host gained 100 sovereign points and Baron-level knight talent.
n'Ding,
nSince it was his first time killing a general knight and the target is also two ranks higher than the host, the host will be rewarded with extra rewards.
n'Ding,
nThey are 100 sovereign points and an unexplored grade 1 dungeon key.
nLucas wanted to see these notifications just to check the rewards and the extra rewards made him greatly excited.
n'With these sovereign points, I can buy all three items from the sovereign shop. My chances of gaining a good skill while entering the lesser knight rank have increased with the talent.'
n'And among all the rewards, the dungeon ticket is the top tier reward.'
n'Since he is a general knight that killed so many adventurers in the past, he might be having some good items, right?'
nLucas controlled his excitement as he decided to check the space ring in his hands.
n'More than 10000 gold coins?'
nJust looking at a huge pile of gold coins in the space ring made Lucas gasp in surprise.
n'Finally, I can repay the 7000 gold coins to the alchemy guild.'
nEarlier, he converted 5000 gold coins into 50 sovereign points. So, he basically had less than 100 gold coins; however, now, his wealth has increased to 10000 gold coins.
nSo, of course, he was happy and could stop worrying about the alchemy guild's debt.
n'No wonder, killing is the easiest way to become rich.'
nHe was not implying to himself when he said those words; instead, he was implying Sawyer's past actions and Lucas knew how he could get so much money.
n'A rank 4 heavy sword. I think Reece could use it.'
nLucas continued to check the insides of the space ring and found many items like all kinds of weapons ranging from rank 2 to rank 3.
nHowever, most of them were either broken or nearly in a worn-out state. So, they were of no use for Lucas.
n'Huh? What is this box?'
nFinally, Lucas saw an old wooden box floating in the mid-air in a corner of the space ring.
n'Swoosh'
nWith a thought, Lucas summoned the wooden box out of the space ring and without wasting any time, he opened it since it was not locked.
nInside the box, there was a thick book and a rolled-up beast skin.
n'Th...this is...'
nLooking at the old book's title, Lucas was pleasantly surprised because he understood the use of that book without opening it.
