Chapter 40

n

n

nGurgle-

nIn a dark cave deep under the Lake of the Abyss.

nA turtle with an unusually big head swum out from it.

nBuk- Buk

nIt was the Abyss Turtle, guardian of the Lake of the Abyss.

nToday, it was going to go up to the Island and eat some Abyss Moss, a delicacy it loved to eat.

n‘Buk! I must pay attention to find some soft moss that is chewy but also melts in the mouth, buk!’

nIt recalled the taste of the moss. It already had a joyous look as it crawled out of the water.

n‘I will go farther today, buk.’

nEven though it was lazy and didn’t like to move around, today, it decided to go on an adventure to find

nmore delicious food.

nIt was a cool turtle that loved adventures!

nBuk- Buk-

nThe turtle started to crawl, making a weird bukbuk sound.

nHowever, after crawling for a long time, it spotted someone coming toward it.

n‘Buk? Ugly human, buk!’

nIt got a little tense, but it didn’t stop.

nIt didn’t think that anyone would be brave enough to fight the Abyss Turtle.

nHowever, a while later, the human approached it and poked its shell with his staff.

n‘Buk! How dare you touch me, buk!’

nThe turtle glared at the human and hid in its shell in a flash.

n“What is this thing?”

nThe man looked dumbfounded and blankly stared at the turtle.

n‘I am on my way to eat delicious moss, buk! Don’t bother me and go away, bukbuk!’

nThe turtle wished for the man to go away and complained quietly.

nThe man didn’t leave, instead, he used a strange spell.

n“Capture!”

nA white light came out of his hand and reached the turtle.

nIt didn’t like that strange feeling.

n‘Buk! Annoying, buk!’

nThe turtle refused the light which then scattered. The man muttered, surprised.

n“What? This has never happened before!”

nThe turtle thought it would be good if the man would leave it alone.

nThen, the man raised its staff and struck the turtle’s shell.

nPak-!

nThe turtle wasn’t hurt much, but it was very offended.

n‘Buk! How dare you hit me!’

nThe man mumbled, confused, and repeatedly struck the shell.

n“Did I strike too weakly?”

nPak- Pak- Pak-

nHowever, the turtle could only feel some meaningless banging.

n‘Annoying! Annoying, buk!’

nThe man got even more confused, “What is this?”

nHe then swung his staff again.

nPak-!

nBut nothing happened.

n“What is this thing?” The man muttered again.

nHis wolf came near and tilted its head.

nGrowl-?

n“Ly, try biting it.”

nThe wolf came to the turtle and bit its shell.

nGrowl-!

nThe turtle was outraged at this.

n‘You’re making scratches on my shell, buk! Somebody take these guys away, bukbuk!!’

nBut the turtle’s shell was hard.

nThe wolf yelped because its teeth were hurt.

nThe man had tried enough, he could give up now. However, he suddenly crutched down in front of the

nturtle.

n‘Why is he still here, buk!’

nThe turtle yearned for the chewy and soft Moss. But it couldn’t go out of its shell because of the weird

nhuman. It made it angry.

nThen, the human, who had been thinking something, suddenly stood up.

nHe took something out of his bag.

nSniff- Sniff, sniff-

nSoon, a delicious smell reached the turtle’s nose.

n‘Buk-? What is this smell, buk!’

nThe turtle looked out of its shell.

nThere was a round chunk piece of meat that it had never seen before.

n“Turtle, this is really delicious. You will regret it if you don’t come out!”

nThe man started to tempt the turtle.

nIt thought hard.

n‘It does look really delicious. Buk! It might taste even better than moss, buk!’

nThe turtle waited to eat the meat after the man went away.

nBut things didn’t go to plan, the man kept waiting.

n‘Buk! I want it, buk!’

nThe turtle was feeling tormented.

nIt wanted to stretch its head out and bite a mouthful of that meat.

nBut he was worried that the human might attack it if it stretched its head out.

n‘Buk! It’s so hard to resist! Bukbuk!’

nBut the delicious smell that he had never experienced for 20 years of its life was too much of a

ntemptation for a gluttonous turtle like it.

nIn the end, the turtle finally gave up and stretched its head out.

nIt glanced at the man.

nHe didn’t move, therefore, it opened its mouth.

nGlup-

nThe turtle was greatly shocked by the meatball.

n‘This… this is! It tastes wonderful, buk!’

nThe meatball was even softer than the moss and it had spices that smelled like heaven.

nThe turtle devoured the meatball.

nIt had already forgotten about the human standing in front of it.

n‘Ah, this is more delicious than king prawns, buk!’

nThe turtle finished the meatball.

nIt went back into its shell and enjoyed the aftertaste the meatball left in its mouth.

nJust one piece was too small.

n‘More… I want more, buk!’

nThen, the man moved away a little and put down another meatball.

nAs soon as the turtle saw that from its shell, it lost all of its self-control.

nBuk-!

nThe turtle stretched its head out.

nThen, the man spoke to it.

n“Turtle, you must come here to eat this.”

nThe turtle hurried to crawl to the meatball.

nBuk- Buk- Buk-

n‘Buk, it will taste so good, buk.’

nThe turtle was excited about eating one more meatball.

nHowever, when it finally reached the meatball,

nThe man’s hand flew in.

nAnd the turtle’s eyes widened.

nThe meatball was taken away right in front of its eyes!

nIt glared at the man, who only grinned.

n“Come with me if you want to eat this.”

nIt was so childish and mean.

nThe turtle shook its shell.

nBuk- Buk-!

n‘That’s too mean, buk! Give me back my meatball, buk!’

nIt made a sound to protest, however, the man was not an easy opponent.

n“Turtle, come with me. I will give you a lot of delicious things.”

nIt was tempted.

n‘Buk? You have more of that delicious meat, buk?’

nHowever, the turtle soon turned its head away.

nThe meatball tasted good, but it was the pride of the Lake of the Abyss, it could not allow itself to be

ntempted so easily.

nThe man smiled and used the Capturing skill.

n“Capture-!”

nThe white light came to the turtle again.

nIt instinctively knew that if it accepted that light, it would have to follow the man.

n‘Buk… this is too tempting, buk.’

nThe turtle thought about accepting it for a second, but it then refused the light.

nThe man tried to negotiate again.

n“Turtle, don’t you want to eat this?”

nHe picked up the meatball and shook it.

nThe turtle couldn’t help turning its head to look at it.

n“You think you can find something more delicious than this on this barren land?” The man continued,

n“I can give you even tastier things.”

nEven tastier things!

nThe turtle’s eyes shook weakly.

nBuk- Bukbuk-

nThe man was very persuasive.

n‘I will never get another meatball if I don’t follow this ugly human, buk!’

nThen, the man put his hand on his head to think.

nHe muttered, “Ha, I would be losing a lot,”

nHe took out two more meatballs.

nAt this, the turtle’s eyes widened.

n“I will give you three meatballs right after you enter into a bond with me!”

nThe moment the turtle saw the three meatballs, it lost all of its self-control.

nAs if its crawling short legs suddenly became longer, it ran to stand in front of the man.

nIt raised its head toward the meatballs.

nBuk- Bukbuk-!

n‘Buk! Take me with you, buk! Give me meatballs, buk!’

nThe man used the skill again, smiling mischievously.

n“Capture!”

nA light came out of his hand and it flew to the turtle. This time, it decided to accept that power.

nThen, it was sucked into somewhere by the unknown power.

n
