Chapter 335 Note from the Future

nDinner ended on a positive note, though I was still wondering if sipping viscous porridge counts as dinner or a snack. Anyway, right after we finished eating, the girls took me out for a walk.
nI was expecting them to carry me like when they brought me out, but Ember took out what looked like a wheelchair out of nowhere. Using that, the girls had an easier time pushing me around and taking me to places.
n“Right, Goddess Blanc passed this note to us. You wrote it yourself before passing out, right after destroying Noir, she said.”
nFatima, the one who won the right to push the wheelchair far and square, pulled out a folded piece of paper out of her pocket.
n“I did?” .
nIt feels weird being passed a note I wrote but had no recollection of. After taking the piece of paper from her, I opened it up and inspected its contents. It was a proper letter from someone addressed to me… Rather, it was literally from my future self.
nI don’t have much time left here, and there are tons of things that I couldn’t mention here. Anyway, past me, if you could change something from there, then I would suggest having a new king crowned within half a year.
nI paused a bit, reading up to this point. Half a year? What’s with that pretty specific timeframe?
nIf nobody but the god tamers are there to govern the kingdom, then, after this and that, half of them would die within the next year.
n“What? Really?!”
nI couldn’t help but raise my voice in surprise. After all, it’s the god tamers we’re talking about. Who on earth could take them down? An assassin, perhaps? Ajax and Zeshion could probably counter a surprise attack even in their sleep. However, Blanc and Vermeil…
nAfter that shocking bit, the rest of the note didn’t register in my mind. It was something about suggesting I stay put and train for two years, reaching God-level myself. There’s even a small map leading to a supposedly “wonderful” place for training.
nAfter finishing reading the note, I folded it nicely before placing it into my Spatial Storage for safekeeping. As soon as I did so, I realized that the girls were all staring at me worriedly.
n“It’s nothing. Please continue.”
nI quickly dismissed their worries, waving my hand lightly with a wry smile. We were touring the city where Goddess Blanc’s church was. I never had the chance to look around before, since we were holed up inside the church whenever we were here.
nThe city itself was bustling with activity, with stalls lining up the side of the road, sporting various goods from street foods to accessories. I guess being near one of the few god tamer’s bases lets them have peace of mind, thinking that they are safe.
nThe girls were trying to act cheerful at first, but slowly started to genuinely enjoy looking around at the stalls. Whenever there was something that caught their eye, they would ask my opinion.
nStill, my mind was stuck on the contents of the note. Two god tamers dying. It was definitely something that sounded impossible, given that their only enemy able to pose an actual threat against them had already died.
n‘Maybe another stampede of god-level demons or something?’
nBut if it’s that, with the weakening arrays around the country, they should have the absolute advantage during battles, unless they get surrounded by dozens at once.
n‘But even the number of God-level demons on the Otherside doesn’t reach that many.’
nA threat enough to be able to reap a being as powerful as God tamers—such a thought kept me unsettled.
nSoon enough, our shopping date with everyone ended. We returned to the church and back to the room I was using. With the excuse of being tired, I told the girls to leave me alone for a while.
n“…”
nStill, troubling myself with something that had no answer wasn’t spending my time wisely. I decided to simply let fate decide its own course, closing my eyes and trying to take a nap.
nI’m not sure if it was fast or slow, but the next day, I could already move my body without problems. I guess oral intake of food and water did the trick. As soon as I could move, the first thing I did was to thank Goddess Blanc for her help before returning to the Seimei.
nWith Ember opening a portal for us, I finally managed to return to my office in one piece.
n“Wait, what’s this?”
nBut on top of my table, tall piles of documents were forming. If I sit down right now, then the ones entering the room wouldn’t be able to see me, as I would literally be buried behind the papers!
nFatima, who was still wiping the cold sweat off her forehead after finishing today’s treatment, quickly replied.
n“It’s the papers that would need your permission before getting approved or rejected. We did as much as we could to lessen the number during your absence, but it still reached this amount.”
n“…”
nI was speechless for a moment. I was away for about two months, but to think it would pile up this much. I let out a long sigh, heading for my chair. I may be convalescent, but reading and signing papers were still doable.
nI started reading the pile and saw things related to the governing method, like the passing of bills, tax reports, damage reports, change of heads due to unfortunate circumstances, destruction of several villages under the Seimei and Luo’s control, and many others.
nHalf of them were just reports that needed me to pass an eye over, but the other half required me to either approve or reject them. By the time I was done, the sky had already turned red and was approaching dusk.
nI stood up and stretched my stiff body. While doing so, a soft knock echoed from the door, making me turn towards it with doubt.
n“Who could it be at this time?”
nMy office was literally hidden, after all. Without knowing the exact entrance, they wouldn’t even realize that an office was there. I quickly came near the wall, pushing it lightly to flip it open.
n“…!”
nBeyond the door was a familiar face.
