Chapter 395 Unexpected Backup
I was just casually swinging my sword at anyone who dared approach, making sure to hit a vital to not let them suffer for long.
Compared to Zeshion, who was literally pummeling anyone who came close until they were flattened, or Vermeil, who was turning anyone in her range into ashes, I still seem a lot “kinder” compared to them.
“But at this rate, this war will take ages to end!”
Having no choice, I need to increase the pace a little more. My usual sword techniques aren’t effective enough to wipe out large numbers. As expected, I would need to use my usual finisher, Echoing Thunderclap.
“… But using that would render my clothes forfeit, and I kinda like this suit.”
The one I was wearing was a normal black and white tuxedo. It was a gift given to me by Yu Na after the Engagement Ceremony, so this is the first time I’m wearing it.
I looked around, but seeing that the soldiers weren’t planning to leave me alone, it didn’t look like I’d have time to change clothes.
“No choice; I’ll waste some energy then.”
I quickly used my self-styled Shadow Clone, creating one copy with a single aim, to use Echoing Thunderclap and vanish. Since the air friction alone wouldn’t be able to damage me or my clone, I made sure to add the self-termination suggestion at the end. After all, it’s embarrassing to be seen standing naked, even if it’s just my clone.
Without delay, my clone quickly lowered his stance and gathered all the energy in his body before letting it explode.
“Echoing Thunderclap!”
*BOOOM!* *BOOOM!* *BOOOM!* *BOOOM!*
Everything happened in an instant.
Even to my eyes, I literally only saw a flash before everyone that was within range turned into meat paste. A radius of three kilometers, a little smaller compared to if I did it, became an empty lot with blood covering the ground.
In just a single instance, I killed over 5 million tamers, jumping to the first position in terms of kills.
“M-Monster…!”
The soldiers that were barely out of range teetered as they turned around, running for their lives. Well, seeing someone “evaporate” millions in a blink, I guess anyone would want to run away.
“How awful…”
Goddess Blanc, who had been staying quiet behind me the entire time, finally opened her lips and spoke. Although I could understand her sentiment, we can’t show pity to our enemies; after all, they were the ones who tried to invade us.
“Let’s go.”
I didn’t bother saying a word, since I know she understands that this is a battlefield and that compassion should only come after the war is over.
As we continued walking onward, the remaining 30 million or so troops started to congregate in the center, protecting their sole teleportation array as they began to retreat in panic. However, even from afar, I could see how the portal suddenly burst with light.
“Now what?”
I squinted my eyes, trying to see what was going on a few kilometers ahead. In the middle of the array, six figures appeared. The one in the middle was wearing clothes that were obviously expensive, even at a glance. He was wearing a uniform that was a mix of blue, white, and gold. His attire was basically shouting “I’m a royalty!” even though he was so far from us.
“What are you doing? Running away?”
As soon as he appeared, seeing the troops that were rushing toward the array to retreat, his gaze turned sharp. With a short gesture, the five knights behind him moved. They all disappeared in a flash, and in an instant, thousands of tamers that were closest to the array fell, their heads falling off their shoulders without resistance.
“The empire doesn’t want cowards! Now, my soldiers, answer me! Are there any cowards here?!”
*OOOOOH!*
In an instant, the retreating army turned around, their eyes burning with desperation. Going forward is death, and going back is death too. To not waste their lives and endanger their families left in the empire, they could do nothing but try to take their enemies with them.
“Blanc, prepare your defense.”
Fighting a scared army is easy, but for a desperate one, it’s hard to predict. That’s why there’s that saying, “A cornered rat will bite the cat.”
As expected, the retreating army returned with fierce momentum. Everyone was no longer minding about their fears, only single-mindedly charging forward, guns ablaze, with a mix of skills attacking us from all directions.
“Will, come a bit closer.”
Goddess Blanc spoke as she gently pulled me by the shoulder before erecting a small barrier that was barely covering the two of us.
“…”
Can’t she just use a bigger barrier? I could feel several soft places hitting my back.
“Shhh, don’t move. The barrier’s range is limited, so if you move, you might disturb its surface distribution.”
As she warned, she kept pressing tighter against my back. It was a heavenly sensation, but I can’t help but feel like there’s a pitfall somewhere.
The rain of attacks, the rain of bullets, and the slashes of swords, spears, and maces continued hitting Blanc’s barrier, but it remained firm. It was slightly scary seeing weapons land a few inches away from your face, though. .
“At this rate, we wouldn’t be able to move at all.”
I muttered in worry. However, Goddess Blanc wasn’t showing a hint of worry at all; rather, she looked like she was enjoying the current situation. I suddenly recalled what she said once when we were staying at her church.
‘She’s not seriously trying to get me, is she?’
Tres, one of the regressors, did manage to land her as a wife, but that’s his story, not mine. Well, honestly, I’m not entirely against it, but…
“…!”
Suddenly, the air changed in the surroundings. Along with it, two unbelievable phenomena occurred on our left and right sides.
To the left, a large tsunami of water rushed forward. To the right was a giant, flaming tornado, enough to cover the whole line of the army at once.
“Those two—they’re not holding back at all!”
