Chapter 466 Fang’s Worries (2)
466 Fang’s Worries (2)
I know that I told Ember and Fang about me being someone who transmigrated into this body, but did I forget to explain to them about the five regressors? I tried to recall if I mentioned it, but other than the times I used Brother Mountain’s protection, I don’t think I mentioned it at all.
‘Well, it’s not like I’m keeping it a secret… wait?’
An idea popped into my head as I recalled the others not knowing about the five regressors. I turned to Fang and smiled wryly, acting awkwardly to increase credibility.
“Keep this a secret from the others, alright?”
I started.
“Actually, in my soulscape, there’s five souls present. That’s not counting myself, of course.”
“Five…?!”
Fang was surprised, but quickly looked around as she held her mouth, recalling what I just warned her about.
“Yes. I did tell most of you about me being a transmigrator, right? Those souls were actually the regressors of the original owner of this body.”
“Could it be… they’re trying to take back the body from Leader? If that’s true, then I will…!”
“No, no, no, calm down. They’re not doing anything bad to me. On the other hand, they’re extremely cooperative and beneficial to me!”
Fang looked like she was about to hop into my soulscape and beat up the five regressors at any moment. But even though they were currently in their weakened state, all five of them were still as powerful as a low-tier god tamer. Fang alone can’t beat one, much less all five of them at once.
After that, I started to tell her about all the little things that the regressor did for me. She seemed surprised at first, but slowly she was becoming even more excited, as if listening to gossip.
“So this Tres was married to Goddess Blanc… and Brother Mountain married Fina?”
Our talk slowly drifted as I finished talking about the important parts, and soon enough, we ended up talking about the regressors’ pasts they shared with me before.
As we continued chatting, Fang’s face slowly recovered its previous energy, with the shadow of anxiety and depression fading away.
However, after a while, she suddenly furrowed her brows.
“But Leader, why should I keep quiet about this from everyone?”
Right.
The things I told her were things that weren’t strictly meant to be kept a secret. As such, she probably felt confused when I asked her to keep quiet about it.
“Weren’t you worried about Igni overtaking you? This information I just shared, you’re the only one I’ve told for now. Wouldn’t that make you feel a little special, knowing a secret between the two of us that the rest don’t know?”
“…!”
Fang’s eyes opened wide. She tried to speak, but apart from opening her mouth, she couldn’t find the right words. Seeing her stuck in a loop like that, I patted her head with a smile as gentle as I could muster before whispering.
“Well, if you want to, you can share this with everyone else. I promise that I won’t tell this personally to anyone else. Alright?”
What I was doing was giving Fang some “leverage” against the others. It wasn’t much, but it should work to give her a little more sense of superiority—something she could fall back to and say, “I and Leader share a secret, unlike you all!”
By promising that I wouldn’t tell anyone else about it personally, I reaffirmed to her that she’s the only one I’ve told this to. As such, she can keep her “advantage” for as long as she wants.
“Leader…”
Fang’s face turned softer as she smiled. Her previous stressed expression when she just approached me was long gone.
Just as she was about to say something, however, something happened.
“…?!”
Behind Fang, a pitch-black portal appeared. I quickly stood up, about to sweep her to my back and cover for her, but Fang quickly turned behind herself, surprised.
“No way…!”
She slowly stood up, turning around while extending a trembling hand to the black portal.
“Fang!”
Before I could stop her, however, she already had a hand going through it. Her expression rolled from surprise to shock before becoming the very definition of overjoyed.
“L-Leader… I…!”
Fang turned around, a wide smile now on her face, and her eyes sparkling!
“I did it, Leader! I managed to open up the gate of my God Kingdom!”
“… What?”
Hearing her exclamation, I quickly narrowed my eyes and inspected the portal… As expected, it had Fang’s energy in it. It really was the entrance to her God Kingdom!
“Congratulations, Fang! Now, you’re tied with Igni again!”
To think that a simple chat was enough to push her to achieve what she couldn’t before. Maybe that’s all she needed—a little breather to relax her nerves.
“Thank you, Leader!”
Fang quickly jumped over, embracing me. Since she was wearing the same clothes as everyone else, a plain white tank top paired with hot pants, I could feel the full warmth of her body and the trembling of her hands as she cried tears of joy.
Although I don’t mind staying this way for a while, I noticed that the entrance to her God Kingdom was starting to fade.
“You should enter it now before it closes!”
“Oh!”
Fang quickly lifted her face off of my chest, checking the entrance to her God Kingdom, before turning to my face.
“Leader, come and check it out with me!”
“… Sure.”
Is she copying how I accompanied Igni in checking her God Kingdom? I’m not sure if that’s her intention or if she simply wanted to take me along, but either way, I’m not going to refuse.
With my hand pulled by hers, we entered the pitch-black portal.
“…”
Did we exit the other side already?
I couldn’t tell at all, since my vision was still pitch black. I didn’t even feel the usual fluctuation or the soft buzz after exiting the portal. Am I still in transition?
I tried to take a step forward, but I couldn’t feel my legs… No, not only my legs. I couldn’t feel my entire body! All my senses—my vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch—were completely unresponsive!
What the hell is happening?!
