n“Xi Xi, what are you playing?” Jiang Cheng said as he walked up to his girlfriend and placed a small item on the desk. He was still holding the bouquet of fresh red roses.
nXi Xi knew that Jiang Cheng had come to visit but she was so engrossed in her game that she didn’t have the energy to greet her boyfriend.
n
n
n“I’m executing a move. Let me explain it to you later,” she said.
nShe used a gaming jargon that only gamers would know.
nJiang Cheng looked a little embarrassed. He finally placed the bouquet on the desk as well after some thought.
nHe sat opposite her and stared at her screen after he had placed his gifts on the desk.
n
n
nHe watched her play quietly without saying a single word or fidgeting around. The only indication of his conflicted thoughts was the look in his eyes when he blinked.
nXi Xi finally quit the game 15 minutes later.
nShe sighed, flung her phone to the sofa, and seemed very disappointed.
nShe had lost again and estimated that her ranking would fall to another 100 places. She was so annoyed to have such useless teammates.
n
n
nXi Xi turned to look at her boyfriend and said calmly, “You’re here.”
nJiang Cheng smiled and there was no trace of displeasure or annoyance on his face as he rose to his feet and picked up the bouquet of fresh red roses that bloomed prettily.
nXi Xi happily accepted the bouquet.
n“Thanks…” she said as she embraced her boyfriend.
nJiang Cheng’s smile widened the moment she hugged him. He wrapped one arm around her and used his free hand to gently stroke her waist-length hair.
n“Do you feel better?” he asked tenderly.
n
n
nXi Xi smiled happily and sweetly up at him.
n“I’m much better. I didn’t experience any morning sickness this afternoon,” she said before she looked at her boyfriend who indulged her every whim and treated her like a princess.
nHer boyfriend had a remarkably good temperament and had never once flared up at her.
nJiang Cheng said, “Good. My mom made you some chicken soup and asked me to bring it over.”
n“Oh…” Xi Xi said.
n“What kind of soup is it?”
nJiang Cheng released her from his embrace, turned to the desk, and took out a green insulated lunch box. The chicken soup was still piping hot.
nXi Xi sniffed and for some reason, the smell made her stomach hurt.
n
n
nShe sneezed twice.
n“What’s that? Is that chicken?” Xi Xi asked. She hardly drank chicken soup and only liked drinking soups that tasted very light.
nJiang Cheng nodded with a smile and said, “Yes, my mom said that black chicken soup is packed with nutrients, so she asked me to bring you some.”
nXi Xi was speechless.
nShe turned pale and suddenly had an urge to run out of the room.
nShe had never had black chicken soup in her life and she didn’t like drinking such soups. She wondered why there was this gamey smell that made her nauseous.
n“Jiang Cheng, I don’t want to drink this right now. Could you bring it down to the kitchen first? I’ll ask the chef to heat it up for me when I want to drink it,” she said and glibly thought of an excuse not to drink the soup.
nShe truly didn’t want to drink this.
nJiang Cheng’s lips curved into a smile but no one noticed the flash of moodiness in his eyes before he left.
nHe put the lid back on and went downstairs to bring the soup that his mother had personally made down to the kitchen, just as his girlfriend had instructed him to do.
nHe Xiyan saw Jiang Cheng head into the kitchen. She entered the kitchen after he had left and spotted the bowl of soup.
nShe took one look at it and just as she had expected, her daughter didn’t drink the soup.
nShe knew this would happen.
