nYixuan’s eyes were lit up the minute he saw her and locked at the familiar face.
nNothing seemed to have changed. Her face, natural with comely imperfections, had long been carved into his heart.

nHis thin lips were pulled upwards to form a curve of smile that had disappeared from his face.
nAfter so many days he finally saw her again.
n“Yanyan,” he called her maiden name, extending his hand for her narrow and thin shoulders.
nXiyan recoiled, leaving the hand hanging in the air.

nHis sudden appearance was a huge disturbance to her, who was still trying to make sense of it, her eyelashes fluttering.
n“What do you want?” She rose to face him and couldn’t help noticing the deep dark circles under his eyes and how tired he looked.
nA pang of sorrow sliced through her heart, but she restrained to betray any emotion, her lips pursed.
nThey were no longer associated, nor was it her business if he was tired or sick.
n
n
n“I…” Yixuan choked back his words, the joy on his face fading away while his heart pained from her indifference. He refused to believe it was more than a pretense.
nHe walked around her and showed himself into the apartment, one that was barely comparable to the villa they used to reside in, despite the familiar scent in the air. Sniffling, he greedily consumed the air.
n“Yanyan, I’m hungry!” He spoke again, the most frequent thing he had been saying to her for years. As he remembered, the woman would get on cooking anything that pleased him every time he dropped the words, no matter how unwell she might have been.
nThe Yanyan he knew loved him with her life and would do anything for him.
nXiyan stood at the table, her hands pressing down, her eyes up staring at the ceiling, and her heart tumbling. She had been trying so hard to forget him, or at least not think of him, but he could just show up like this at her home and catch her off guard.
nInstead of cooking for him like the old times, she served him some snacks.
n
n
n“So, Yixuan, why are you here?” She asked, shoveling any emotion back behind her white face.
n“I’m taking you home!” Yixuan blinked his ink-black eyes. He seemed like a different person without his standard grim and cold poker face – warm, glowing with hopes.
nHe thought he could just let her go after divorce. He dived into work around the clock. But the second he closed his eyes he pictured her face, smiling. Yes, he didn’t want to lose her.
nHis words struck her hard. Her head literally ached from trying to understand him.
nTaking her home? Where? This is her home.
n“Why exactly are you here?”
nShe leaned closer, her eyes projecting an air of menace. His unwelcomed visit disturbed her. He shouldn’t be here.
n“I said I’m taking you home, back to Ye City,” Yixuan fed himself a piece of cake. He’s truly hungry as he hadn’t eaten anything since the day before.
