nLater that night, Ye Hao discovered that he could not open his house door with his key. It must have been locked from the inside.
n“Mum, open up…” He shouted and continued to press the doorbell. After He Xiyan had treated his face, the swelling had gone down. He would have never dared to return home otherwise.
n
n
nThe doorbell kept ringing but whoever inside was pretending to sleep and refused to open the door.
nDamn…
nYe Hao could not hold back a curse.
nHis mother was really something else. How could she kick her own son out to the streets? He didn’t have any form of identification on him, was she expecting him to sleep on the streets tonight?
n
n
nHe ran to the fifth floor and pressed the doorbell to unit 502 repeatedly.
nHe Xiyan emerged from the bathroom clad in a light pink colored bathrobe. Her hair was extremely wet and still dripped with water. She rubbed at her hair with a towel while she walked out of the bathroom and immediately heard the doorbell ring.
nWhat was the matter? She frowned and then, she suddenly felt uneasy. Were they back?
nShe quickly ran to the peephole and saw that it was Ye Hao standing outside.
n
n
nDidn’t he go home?
nShe shook her head in confusion and thought that she must be seeing things. She took another look and indeed, it was Ye Hao.
n“What’s the matter? Did you leave something behind?” She opened the door and asked the man in front of her.
nYe Hao strode into her house and sat on the sofa.
n“I’ll sleep here tonight.” He said, coming straight to the point and without any hesitation. He did not know that his words had shocked the woman so much that her jaw almost dropped.
nHe Xiyan looked at him with disbelief, as though she had been struck by lightning. There were terror and fear in her eyes.
n
n
n“Why? What’s wrong?” Ye Hao clocked her surprised expression and straightened his clothes, his expression serious. “My mum has locked me out, I’m not sure what is wrong with her but she refuses to open the door. If you don’t let me sleep here tonight, I’d have to sleep on the streets.”
nWith that, he lay down on the sofa.
nHe Xiyan frowned and looked at him doubtfully. She did not know what to do.
n“Uh, I haven’t bought a bed for the guest room yet.” She said in a tiny voice, as though she had squeezed her voice out of her throat. It was also a subtle rejection.
nYe Hao turned around and propped his head up on his palm. He noticed her fearful expression and could not hold back a smile. She must have been traumatized by the kiss he had forced on her last time. This silly woman was already a divorcee but was still as scared as a little girl.
n“No problem, I’ll sleep on the sofa.” He said flatly, then sat up again.
nHe Xiyan shook her head once more. Her cheeks were still flushed from her bath and she was so nervous that her palms were sweating.
n“Alright, let’s stick to this arrangement. In any case, you’re a pregnant woman, so I wouldn’t do anything untoward to you.” What else could he do? Commit a criminal act?
n
n
nThe moment he uttered the words ‘pregnant woman’, Ye Hao frowned in annoyance and his heart beat faster.
nHe had tried asking her to abort the child but she immediately burst into tears. She cried so sorrowfully that he did not dare to bring it up again.
nThis child was a taboo topic to her, a topic that he could not broach.
