nEveryone was surprised.
n“What the hell, she’s not blind…”
nWhen Mia sat down, Andrew Hall in the back row suddenly kicked her chair hard, cursing. “Why do you blindfold your eyes if you’re not blind, bitch?”
nThen, he reached out to tear off the girl’s white cloth.
nMia turned her head with a jerk, and Andrew stiffened. His hand that was still holding the white cloth froze in the air, and panic gradually covered his face.
nScreams broke out in the classroom.
nEven Derek was also howling. “Oh my god!”
nAwakened, Claire pulled off her earphone irritably.
nShe raised her head and followed his gaze.
nIn the front row, the new girl was facing Andrew.
nIn her eye sockets, the pupils were gone and there were only whites of the eyes, which looked quite creepy.
nShe looked like a zombie from the movies.
nAlmost scared out of his pants, Andrew threw the white cloth in the girl’s face. “Fuck off! Don’t **ing look at me!”
nThe girl picked up the white cloth from the ground and put it on silently.
nThe other students were all huddled up and had not yet recovered from the shock.
nDerek asked Claire. “Where are her eyeballs?”
n“Eaten.” Claire replied with rare patience.
nDerek blinked. “By whom?”
nClaire held her chin and said slowly, “There is a monster who eats the eyes of a certain kind of person. Do you want to know what kind of person it is?”
nDerek asked like a curious baby. “Yes?”
nClaire tilted her head and stared at him. “People who talk a lot.”
n“…”
nRestroom.
nClaire turned on the faucet to wash her hands and glanced sideways at the skinny girl beside her, who was the new student who had just come today.
nShe bent over and rinsed her hair in the water. A large piece of chewing gum was stuck to the end of her hair. The white cloth was wet, outlining her eyes.
nBack to the classroom.
nAndrew put his legs on the desk with a wicked smile.
nSomeone next to him said, “You’re really bad. It’s not easy to get the gum off once it sticks to the hair.”
nAndrew snorted coldly. “She scared the hell out of me, OK?”
nClaire glanced at him coldly.
nClass time.
nThe teacher was facing the blackboard and writing a formula.
nAndrew raised his foot and kicked Mia’s ass fiercely.
nCaught off guard, Mia fell to the ground together with the chair with a bang and hit her mouth on the ground.
nStartled by the loud bang, the teacher whipped his head around. “Mia, are you okay? You can’t even sit properly?”
nThe whole class burst into laughter.
nWithout a word, Mia silently got up from the ground, picked up the chair, and sat down again.
nWhen the class was over, Mia turned her head and her eyes that had no pupils but the whites looked straight at Andrew through the white cloth.
nFeeling as though being electrified, Andrew shivered.
nCan this bitch see or not?
n“What are you looking at?” He snapped.
nMia didn’t move.
nAndrew became furious. “I said don’t look at me! Are you not only blind but also deaf?”
nHe lunged to his feet, grabbed Mia’s long hair and smashed her head against the table.
nThe two loud bangs were scary to hear.
nWith blood dripping down from her forehead, Mia took out a tissue and covered the wound silently.
nAfter school.
nClaire left the school and didn’t walk in the direction of the Smiths’ mansion. After she went around a few street corners, there were fewer and fewer people.
nShe carried her school bag on one shoulder, put a hand in her pocket, and walked leisurely. The headphone cord was hung around her neck. She had headphones in one ear and not the other.
nShe said, “OK, I’ll be right there.”
nOn the other end of the line, a man’s gentle voice rang. “I’m shopping for groceries. What would you like to eat for dinner?”
n
