Chapter 427 - Ready To Begin Their Journey

When the next morning arrived, the St. Claire family was ready to begin their journey to the Valente fief.

Butler Limo stood outside the mansion and watched as the other servants were placing the luggage into the long line of carriages that would be leaving the estate soon.

Earl Rutherford St. Claire walked out of the Mansion with his wife, Raylene, and headed towards the first carriage which was meant for them.

The two children had already taken their seats inside the same carriage and were chatting excitedly when they saw their mother entering with their father's help.

Once Raylene was safely seated inside, Rutherford turned towards his Butler who stood at a short distance away.

"Take care.

" The Earl spoke in a stern tone but it made Butler Limo smile as this was his way of showing concern.

The Butler then bowed to his head in acceptance of the care his Master was displaying towards him.

"Master, too… Please take care.

" He replied as he rose to stand upright.

The two men then nodded as a farewell before the Earl turned away and took his seat in the carriage.

Five carriages were lined up with the first being for the Master and his family, the next two were filled with luggage, the one after that for the maids, and finally, the last one for the male servants accompanying them.

The servants were shifting suitcases into their respective carriages when the Butler noticed someone coming to halt next to him.

"Mrs. Jacinth!

" He greeted the woman with a smile after turning sideways.

The old maid, one of the few whom he respected in this mansion, smiled back at his kind gesture.

"Would you be alright?

" He inquired as a trace of concern flashed across his handsome face.

Mrs. Jacinth's smile widened as she nodded with confidence.

"It is my duty to serve the Miss to the best of my abilities and I would be alright when I am by her side.

" She admitted her honest thoughts before him.

Following these words, she bowed before the man and then strode towards one of the carriages.

Butler Limo watched as Roselie and the other two personal maids of the Madam helped Mrs. Jacinth into their carriage and a male servant shut the door for them.

The servants all took their respective seats and once everything was in order, Butler Limo gave the first coach driver a nod.

The driver immediately let out a whistle which alerted the other drivers with him.

The sounds of horses neighing were heard before the carriages slowly began moving in the direction of the entrance of the estate.

The old man and the other servants who were left behind waved at the carriages until they were gone from their sight before they returned to the mansion to complete their chores.

Inside the carriage with the maids, Mrs. Jacinth watched as the scenery slowly changed from the serenity surrounding the estates of the nobles to the crowded streets of the Commercial District, indicating that they were heading in the right direction.

Her eyes looked around those seated with her and the sight evoked a smile on her wrinkled face.

'Thank you, Miss, for understanding this maid's heart.' She expressed her gratitude to the little Miss who had not despised her but had even consoled her.

Yesterday, after she had disclosed her innermost thoughts to her Miss, she felt remorse for what she had done.

However, everything changed when the little girl hopped off her seat and turned towards her, wrapping her arms around the maid's legs.

Due to her short height, Yvonne could only hug her maid's legs but she decided that this gesture was something her maid needed at that moment.

Her judgment was right as Mrs. Jacinth was relieved of her anxious thoughts with this simple action.

"Nanny, you will always be my maid!

" The little girl's stubborn and childish words made hot tears of joy to pool in her eyes as she bent forward and hugged the girl back while nodding vigorously.

Once their emotions had steadied, the Young Miss had revealed to her maid that her decision was to help Roselie learn but at the same time it was to give Mrs. Jacinth a vacation from her daily job as well.

Her old nanny deserved a period of rest to nurse her ailing health but her choices had caused her maid to feel anxious.

Therefore, Yvonne revealed her reasons for asking Mrs. Jacinth to stay behind.

This made the maid's heart bloom with joy as she reassured her that she was fine and could still join them on this journey.

Seeing how Mrs. Jacinth desired to come along, Yvonne did not refuse her but accepted her words.

However, she placed a condition that the old maid could not over-exert herself lest she falls ill once again.

Mrs. Jacinth, not wanting to miss this opportunity of serving her Miss, promised to listen to everything she says.

The Butler was then informed about this change in the plans and Mrs. Jacinth was thus allowed to accompany and serve her Miss with Roselie on this journey once again.

Roselie too was ecstatic because this meant that she would not be doing this alone as that thought was scary to her especially since she had never been outside the St. Claire Mansion in Amarthea.

Each of the four maids in this carriage was grateful for their own blessing and the atmosphere here was jovial and cheerful.

In the carriage with the St. Claire family,

"Vonny, stop that!

" Raylene chided her daughter with a startled expression on her face.

Immediately, Rutherford, who had been seated next to his wife, leaped forward to grab his daughter and pulled her to get her to sit on his lap.

The parents and the elder brother alike glared at the little girl who had just done something both incredibly daring and extremely stupid.

Being at the center of their agitated attention, the little girl could only look down with a pout but none of them were falling for her cute appearance and her adorable charm.

The reason for this was what she had done earlier.

Just a few seconds ago, while the family was conversing about how long their journey must be, everything was as usual.

Rutherford was playing with his wife's fingers while she spoke about her maiden fief, Howard was glancing out of one window and Yvonne was looking out the other.

However, out of nowhere, Rutherford felt his wife stiffen in his arms and her frightened scream alerted him and Howard.

When they turned to look in the direction that she was staring with her eyes wide open, their faces contorted as well.

The little girl who was supposed to be seated next to her brother and looking out the window was doing just that.

However, this time, half of her body was outside the window as she tried to take a peek at something outside.

This sight was enough to make their blood run cold as a single bump in the road and she might have flown right outside the window.

The worried father was the first to move as he leaped forward and succeeded in maneuvering his child away from the window.

Yvonne's body was lifted off her seat and she was now snug in her father's arms as her mother checked to see if she was alright.

"We take our eyes off of you for a minute and you almost fall out of the carriage!?

" Raylene's worry had now turned to fury after making sure that she was fine.

Her pink eyes were glaring while her nostrils flared in anger at the mischief her child had just pulled over them all.

Howard too had been surprised and was grateful that their father had quick reflexes but now as he looked at their mother blazing at the little girl, he felt compassion for her.

'Mama gets scary when she is mad.' He shuddered when thinking of the limited times that his mother had shown her furious side to him.

However, the little girl had never seen this side of their mother so he was worried about how she must be feeling right now.

He was right as the little girl was hiding in her father's strong arms after feeling the scary aura emanating from the usually sweet lady sitting beside them.

'When did she become so frightening?' Yvonne wondered while gulping her saliva, underestimating the power of a provoked Mama bear.

If Raylene could become a scary Mama bear to shield her children from outsiders then she could also become equally scary to save her children from their own reckless actions.
