Chapter 638 - The Secret Spectator
Yvonne was resting in the room assigned to her by the maids of the Rose Palace but what she did not know was that, earlier, there had been a third person who had observed everything that had taken place.
A youth with bright blonde hair had been present in a concealed location and had witnessed the latter half of the interaction between Prince Fritzen and the other little girl.
____
When Prince Draco had exited the Throne room after his conversation with his brother, the King, he had used the secret pathways to head back to his Palace, unnoticed by any of the nobles who were present in the Palace premises today.
He disliked coming in the eyes of these nobles, some of whom thought of him as a threat to the throne.
He preferred to meet the ones with who he was already comfortable and tried to limit his interaction with the rest.
There was still time before he would make his formal appearance into the noble society and until then, he wished to remain away from public scrutiny.
Thus, he returned to his Palace without letting anyone even notice his presence.
The only reason he had left his Palace on this busy day was that he had heard about the abnormal behavior of his elder brother and wished to know more about it.
After being unable to decipher what had taken place between the King and the daughter of the St. Claire family, Draco could only return to his haven where he felt at ease.
However, he was soon informed about the same girl being brought to the posterior portion of the Sycamore Palace.
While he had felt that it was odd for his nephew to not make any move upon hearing that Yvonne St. Claire, the one who he now knew to be the girl who saved and insulted him, would be arriving at the Palace.
He had assumed that Fritzen had realized why he had advised him to let the past stay in the past.
Yet, now he had heard about that girl being brought to the Sycamore Palace.
Earlier, after meeting his brother, he had asked his guard, Sigma, to keep an eye on the girl to see if there was something different about her.
After all, she was the reason his brother had behaved in an odd manner.
Sigma was asked not to report back to him unless it was something urgent.
Thus, when the child was being led into the Sycamore Palace grounds from the rear entrance which wasn't frequently used, Draco knew that his nephew was up to no good.
Since he had heard the conversation the St. Claire family had with the King, Draco was well aware of their contribution during the plague.
If something were to happen to their precious daughter while in the Palace premises due to the Prince, then even he might not be able to save Fritzen from the trouble he would land in.
As much as he wished to rush and stop his nephew from doing something he would regret, he could not just stride over there.
He did not wish to appear before the other nobles who were strolling around the Palace grounds.
This accompanied by the fact that Fritzen and the child were not in a place that had any secret pathways, he was put in a tough spot.
The training arena connected to the Sycamore Palace was an open area that provided him with no access to a safe viewing space.
Therefore, his only choice was to use the pathway which led him through an underground tunnel and into one of the utility closets inside the Sycamore Palace.
He rarely used this path as he would always just walk freely into his nephew's palace but that wasn't possible today.
Hence, he could only try to avoid the cobwebs growing in this unused tunnel and enter the Sycamore Palace.
When he exited the tunnel, he was inside the Palace while Yvonne and Fritzen were already deep into their conversation at a distance away in the training arena behind the Sycamore Palace.
He knew that none of the servants here could even notice him arriving as he had concealed his presence and only those with higher powers than him could sense him.
With this confidence, he entered a room on a higher floor with the perfect vantage point to view the interaction between the two younger children.
All he could do was observe from a distance as he did not wish to make his presence known before the other child.
After observing them for a few moments, he sighed because Fritzen had not caused harm to the little girl.
They appeared to be engaging in conversation so Draco used his heightened senses to eavesdrop on them.
'I'm only doing this to make sure that Frit doesn't say something unnecessary.' He reassured his guilty conscience that he was doing nothing wrong.
The more he listened, the more he felt like smacking his forehead.
Fritzen was blabbering about everything, about the incident where he almost 'drowned' in the stream and the events that followed.
Hearing the child's responses made him chortle as he knew for sure that she was putting on an act.
He did not know if she was already aware of Fritzen's true identity back then but what he knew for sure was that she had not been there by coincidence.
She sat behind a bush, watching as Fritzen disguised as a stable boy walked along the stream.
She did not move a muscle when he fell into the water and he had even seen a smirk on her face at that very moment.
Regardless of how she knew about what would take place, he recalled vividly how she cursed while looking at the sky before heading to rescue the boy from the stream.
Her words were crude but she struggled nonetheless to save him from 'drowning' in that stream of constantly flowing water.
If that wasn't amusing enough for him to watch from his secret spot on the tree, she had even yelled at Frit to faint as soon as she was done rescuing him.
As though on command, Fritzen fainted which he had thought to be suspicious but shrugged it off after denoting it to be an aftermath of the panic he had been in.
The show didn't end there as the child ran away to hide when she heard voices coming their way.
The gardener couple carried his nephew away and the child reappeared from her hiding place to follow them.
He spied on her as she watched the interaction between Fritzen and the gardener's daughter.
He had thought that she was sad when he saw her trembling shoulders but was shocked to see that she was chuckling while hiding in her corner.
Later, he watched her running away after hearing the news about her parents looking everywhere for her.
He then went to fetch Frit from the gardener's hut and they soon left the St. Claire estate that very night.
However, he never would have thought that they would have so many interactions even after that incident in the past.
Coming to the end of his reminiscing thoughts, he looked back at the two children who were silent.
In the next second, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped when his nephew spilled everything about how the child had injured him.
'Why would you reveal that!?' Draco grimaced at the thought of others knowing the reason for his injury.
Only a few had heard about the true reason why Marquess Samed was chosen as the Royal Tutor instead of the former choice, Governess Bloom.
His injury had led to this change in personnel and the cause of this injury was a little girl who had fallen on him.
His cheeks burned red when Fritzen was narrating in great detail about how she had injured the King's beloved younger brother.
He knew what his nephew was trying to accomplish but he was embarrassed nonetheless.
Neither could he rush forward to seal his nephew's mouth shut nor could he speak to his nephew through their minds like he would with his guards because Fritzen had not yet found his etcher.
He couldn't even speak up from right here and hope Frit that would hear him.
This was because, while Fritzen might be able to hear him, even that girl would and that would defeat the entire purpose of being secretive.
The young prince was ignorant about Yvonne St. Claire's awakening and her etcher but he knew it all too well.
Thus, he could only watch from the sidelines as Fritzen revealed what was supposed to be kept a secret for all eternity.
However, if that wasn't the most shocking part, the reaction from the child had managed to surprise him endlessly.
Even if she was intimidated by what Fritzen had implied through his words, her manner of cutting all ties and connections seemed strange to him.
Him being injured was a true accident and there was nothing that could have happened to change it.
It was he who had stepped forward in an attempt to save her and ended up injuring himself.
Unlike Frit, he had never thought of avenging the injury she had caused him as she too had been injured during that incident and even ended up losing her memory for quite a long time after that.
However, what she had done for Frit was different.
Fritzen was yelling for help and she had come to rescue him.
People would love to have the Royal family indebted to them but here was a child who was trying to draw a clear line between them.
Baffling as it was to him, he only watched as the child ended the conversation and walked away while Fritzen watched from the same spot until she was no longer in sight.
'Now, time to deal with him.' Draco glared at his nephew who was making his way back to the Sycamore Palace where he was right now.
