Chapter 763 - Another Dream
After only one day's gap, the next party Yvonne was supposed to attend had arrived today.
"Miss Isadora is around the same age as Vonny.
" Raylene reminded her daughter while straightening out a strand of hair that had been misplaced due to the wind blowing through the carriage's window.
The St. Claire couple along with their daughter were already on their way to the party which was set in the Carter family's estate.
Howard had fulfilled his duty of attending the Ducal family's party and hence had opted to stay back at home.
Yvonne did not even attempt to kick up a fuss as her parents would not have agreed to let her stay back with her brother even if she had tried her hardest.
Thus right now, the three members of the St. Claire family were on their way to the second party they had decided to attend this season.
Marchioness Carter had decided to organize her party in the evening so it was around four when the guests had started making their way towards their destination.
The Carter family had the liberty to choose who they would invite and hence had sent out invitations to only a few families.
The Dukes, Marquesses, and Earls were the only ones invited along with their immediate family.
Due to this reason, the Valente family who held the title of Viscounts had to stay behind.
Trisha and Marcus were not offended upon hearing this news as they weren't very well acquainted with the Carter family.
Therefore, right now, the entire Valente family and Howard were back at the St. Claire mansion while Rutherford, Raylene, and Yvonne had reached the Carter family's estate.
This place was further away from their home so it had taken them around fifteen minutes to reach their destination.
The parents glanced at the child who had accompanied them without complaining or even uttering a word even once, making them assume that she was still mad at them.
While this might be true, the real reason was that Yvonne was lost in a thoughtful daze ever since she had woken up early this morning.
She did not even contradict her mother's choice of clothing today which led her to be dressed in a pretty pink gown with a wide bow tied at her back.
The inch-long heels weren't as comfortable as the shoes she preferred but Yvonne wore them without another word.
This had caused Raylene to wonder if there was something wrong at first but thinking of how unwilling she was to attend these parties, the mother had inferred this to be the reason for her silence throughout the day.
However, the mother's assumptions were off as the child's mind was wandering in a whole different direction.
The carriage had come to a halt and the Earl did an excellent job of escorting his wife and child from the carriage and into the estate of the Carter family.
As the family walked along with the guidance of a servant, Yvonne's mind had not returned to the present.
In an absent-minded daze, she followed the adults around her without paying much heed to her surroundings.
The cause of her wandering mind was the dream she had just last night.
The voices she had heard in that dream echoed in her mind.
'How could he treat her with such kindness and care!?'
'I want her to not be able to lift her head high in our society!'
'Please keep her busy until I finish speaking to the Prince…'
'Vonny, it hurts… My heart hurts so much that I cannot breathe…'
Bits and pieces of interactions between a pair of friends resurfaced in her mind.
The voice belonging to the same person had been heard until now and each statement was spoken in a different tone.
There was betrayal, fury, desperation, and in the final sentence, Yvonne had felt the grief coming from that voice echoing in her head.
The child knew just who this voice belonged to which had put her in that daze.
'Don't worry, Glenny. We will help you if that is what you truly want.' The second person's response was always different variations of the same reassuring statement.
The two friends whose voices Yvonne had heard in her dream were none other than 'Glennise Brodie' and 'Yvonne St. Claire' from the script.
These sentences had been written in Asmodeus' script and the same she had witnessed in the dream as well.
Yvonne had been miffed with the rude attitude of Glennise at the Tanner's tea party but just a day later, she had this dream which had put her in a complicated mood.
She did not want to get any closer to that girl who would go down a tragic path in life for loving the Crown Prince in the future.
However, these incidents she had watched in her dream were invoking feelings she did not know existed before.
'Yvonne' in the script had always held Glennise's hand when she wept with a heart filled with sorrow every time she saw the Prince sneering at her but smiling at the young lady from a mere Baron's family.
The child and her counterpart whose life she viewed through these dreams had a similar belief, that the Prince was allowed to choose who he would spend the rest of his life with.
However, in the script, 'Yvonne' would still do her best to ensure that her best friend was given an opportunity to meet the Prince in hopes that Glennise would gain a favorable opinion through these encounters.
While Prince Fritzen had treated his younger sister's playmates with respect, ever since the appearance of that young lady on their coming-of-age ceremony, his attitude towards them had soured in no time.
He blamed them for mistreating the one whom he believed to be his savior and accused them of being petty and using their status to bully others.
It was undeniable that Glennise had indeed done so a few times but she wasn't the only one who had a problem with the newcomer.
Other ladies used the Duke's only daughter as a shield to misbehave with that lady and the Prince who heard of these incidents grew impatient and infuriated with them.
Glennise's heartbroken sobs when she uttered that last sentence in the dream still echoed in the child's mind as though she had been present when this incident had taken place.
Asmodeus had only brushed past the scars on the hearts of these young ladies in the process of creating a 'love conquers all' storyline for his male and female lead.
To experience the same script through the point of view of a different person, someone who was not the female lead but the 'side villainess' had given her a different perspective about the world she was in.
"Is everything alright, Vonna?
" Rutherford frowned when he caught the grave look on his child's face.
They were about to enter the venue of the tea party but before the attendant could announce their arrival, he had glimpsed at her and thus was able to discern the solemn expression on her face.
Yvonne's thoughts had been interrupted and at such times in the past, she would have smiled to reassure him but today, she wasn't sure if she truly was fine.
Numerous conflicting emotions had arisen in her heart after she had awoken from that dream which made it impossible for her to display that cheerful smile right now.
"We can leave early if you aren't feeling well.
" He suggested which widened Raylene's eyes.
However, thinking of the pale face of their child, the Countess did not object, nodding her head soon enough in acceptance of her husband's words.
Yvonne's weak smile made them share a concerned glance at each other before they decided to enter the venue.
'Will everything follow the same path?' The child wondered as the family of three walked into the garden of the Carter family.
She had avoided being involved with the main characters by a major portion and thus had evaded the fate that awaited her.
However, the Princess and Glennise were still walking on the same path, making similar choices as well.
This was making her wonder if they would experience the same sorry fate that was destined for them in the future or would there be any changes to the pitiful end they had met after going against the male and female leads?
Standing in the path of their love was the biggest mistake those three venerated young ladies had made.
'So would things change if they no longer objected to the idea of the Pig Prince loving Hilda?' She wondered if this would make any difference.
