Chapter 23 - By throwing a rock
n
n
nThe compass only had one pin that moved.
n‘Compass of Tyrant…’
nDohyuk read the description below it.
nRelic of a poor lord who was filled with suspicion even after conquering the empire. It points in the direction of a nearby person who has the most similar desire. The lord killed anyone that this compass pointed toward as it meant the one would have the desire to conquer.
n“Desire?”
nDohyuk looked at the compass. It was spinning rapidly. It was natural as Dohyuk didn’t know what his desires were. He had the instincts to survive, but that wasn’t a desire. He then became hungry and unwrapped the leather bag that was tied to the sleeping bag case.
n<
nIt was the item he got from Lawrence, and a few liters of water were still in there. Dohyuk gulped it down until he couldn’t drink anymore and it quelled some of his hunger.
n‘What’s first…’
nWhat was first was to fill his hunger. He was starving after not eating for four days straight, and he didn’t have much time left before the main trial. Dohyuk put the compass in his pocket.
n“I’m crazy.”
nHe mumbled to himself as he knew what he was going to do and jumped down.
nAfter that, he was now running straight down the cliff. When there were about 3 meters left before hitting the ground, he jumped.
n“Ugh…”
n-Strength: 102( 2)(D)
n-Stamina: 83( 7)(D)
nHis stats were now satisfactory. Besides, his 3
/10 proficiency level of Flying Master Kicks gave him the knowledge of a windwalk skill that ran through the land.
n‘So, it does work,’ Dohyuk thought. He then began jumping down with much more confidence. On the third down, he found something. On the cliff, there was a dark circle.
n‘Only that part is different.’
nIt was hard to notice, but it was there. Dohyuk realized there were a lot of them around the rocks.
n‘It doesn’t seem to be doing anything but…’
nDohyuk decided, ‘I’ll go around it.’
nHe then readied himself, but as he walked up to the cliff, he kicked the rock and knocked it down. When the circle reached the shade, it opened. A giant pincer that was as big as a cow emerged.
n‘If I passed it…’
nDohyuk shivered. He wasn’t sure if that pincer was stronger than him, but it still was not good.
nThe owner of the pincer looked for any potential things, then went back in and closed the lid.
nDohyuk tried to jump again when a giant shadow came down from above.
n“…Dammit.”
nThere was a giant eagle with about 5 meters in size looking at Dohyuk as it flapped its wings in the air.
n‘If it attacks..’
nHe would strike back right away. Yet, the bird began flying down past the circle. The pincer appeared, but the monster bird easily dodged it and began attacking the pincer.
n‘That bird saw me.’
nBut it didn’t attack. Instead, it began fighting the pincer.
n‘Is it because it thinks I’m not a prey?’
nHowever, that didn’t seem likely. There were more circles around if the bird wanted to fight those pincers. Why was it here?
nThis was all theoretical, but the bird did not know about color differences, so it did not know where pincer was. That pincer had revealed itself because of Dohyuk’s rock and that was why it came. The fight was heavily in the bird’s hand.
nThe bird then used its talon to claw the pincer away from the body, and the owner of the pincer was dragged out.
n‘Small.’
nIt had a body that looked like a hermit crab. It was maybe slightly bigger than its pincer, but the body fell and the bird flew away with the pincer.
n“..”
nDohyuk moved. The pincer was gone, but he still moved horizontally to avoid it. Then, he stopped at the cliff near another smaller circle. Dohyuk then grabbed two rocks and dropped one. The pincer came and began searching for its prey.
n“Whew…”
nDohyuk sighed, “I have no choice. It’s either do or die.”
nHe then dropped his second rock and jumped down. The pincer showed itself because of the rock and Dohyuk spun. The pincer destroyed the rock and tried to pull back, but Dohyuk landed his kick.
nIt was the part where pincer was connected to the body. This was the pincer’s weakest part. Dohyuk struck and felt something being destroyed. He then reached out and held on the pincer that was dangling from a broken bone. Within the hole, he saw that it was small. It tried to attack Dohyuk with its other pincer, but it was too small so it couldn’t reach.
n“HA!”
nDohyuk then continued with his kick against the crab’s eye. Something exploded, but Dohyuk did not care. After multiple kicks, he killed the crab.
n
n<
nDohyuk then walked into the hole. He felt hungry again and he needed to eat. Dohyuk glanced around to find a rock and began crushing the pincer. When he cracked it open, the white flesh inside was revealed. However, as Dohyuk reached out, a small glass bottle dropped.
n<
nIt was a bottle of salt and sugar. As he picked up the bottle, the voice came.
n<
nDohyuk had tossed it before the voice finished, and he then began consuming the meat.
n“It… it’s sweet.”
n<
nWhen Dohyuk finished eating and looked up-
n<
nThe countdown informed him of the upcoming event and the alarm shook him. Dohyuk took out the compass. The compass was now pointing toward a certain direction. He didn’t know what to do when the main trial came around, but the others would know and they would be getting ready for the counterattacks.
n‘I’ll take the chance.’
nDohyuk then stepped out. He moved fast. The distance to the target was very close.
n<
nThere was ample time left when Dohyuk found the next target.
n
