Chapter 17 Wolves

nAfter they finished their meal, they headed along their way on the back of the horse to the forest.
nBy the afternoon, they had arrived at the edge of the forest.
nLooking into the forest, they found that the thicket in front of them truly was dense and they really couldn’t see much of what was in the forest. There was a road that did lead through the forest, but based on the conditions of the road, it seemed like it hadn’t been traveled in a long time.
nHowever, that wasn’t strange because they had been sent to investigate the situation of this forest.
nIf there were people that often traveled down the path of this forest, there wouldn’t be a need for them to investigate.
nSo after sending the horse and the Snow Rabbit back into the Pet Storage Space, Lin Fan and Xiao Yue headed down the forest path on foot.
nBoth of them had their weapons drawn and were prepared to fight at any time.
nAs they headed down the path, there really wasn’t much for them to see since the thicket around them was very thick, but they also didn’t sense anything around them.
nIt was strangely silent as they made their way along the road. It was almost as if there weren’t any living beings in the forest around them.
nBut if that was the case, that wouldn’t make sense since this was a forest that was clearly teeming with life based on the lush plant life around them. A place like this would normally be filled with animals.
nThis clearly wasn’t a normal situation.
nThe two of them continued down the path, but they still weren’t able to find a single thing. That is until they suddenly heard a wolf howl in the distance.
nThe two of them looked at each other, seeing the clear doubt in each other’s eyes, but Lin Fan still gave a nod in the end. Xiao Yue had a bit of a helpless look in her eyes when she saw this, but she still followed Lin Fan as he headed in the direction of that wolf howl.
nLin Fan hadn’t wanted to head over at first, but when he listened carefully, he could hear the pain in the wolf’s howl. It was almost as if they were asking for help.
nFor anyone else that was born in this world, they wouldn’t respond to something like this since they knew that it would be dangerous for them. However, for Lin Fan, who came from Earth and had a soft spot for animals, he decided to see if the wolves needed help.
nAs they approached the area where they had heard the sound of the wolf cries from, they suddenly began hearing other noises coming from there. It wasn’t the cry of any animal, but rather it was the sound of fighting.
nLin Fan immediately knitted his brows, but he didn’t let his emotions sway his thoughts as he hid himself in the brush and carefully made his way over.
nWhen he had come close enough, he saw the scene unfold in front of him.
nJust like the sounds had implied, it was indeed a fight that was happening.
nIn the scene in front of him, there were two wolves that were currently fighting a giant bear.
nWell, it wasn’t the two wolves that were fighting the giant bear, it was just one of the wolves that was fighting. The other wolf was lying on the ground and seemed to be panting hard.
nLooking closely, Lin Fan could see that there was a slight bump on the belly of the wolf lying on the ground.
nThe wolf that was currently fighting the bear was covered in spots of blood, clearly showing that it was injured.
nLin Fan knitted his brows when he saw all of this and he couldn’t help clenching his hand around his weapon.
nAs for Xiao Yue, she didn’t pay as much attention to the battle in front of them as she did to Lin Fan. She could see the look in his eyes and knew what he was thinking.
nWithout any hesitation, she grabbed his arm and turned him around before shaking his head.
nLin Fan knew what he was thinking wasn’t smart, but there was a voice deep down that told him otherwise.
nHe knew that Xiao Yue was making the smart move, but his heart went against it.
nBut while they were hesitating the bear suddenly smacked the wolf down onto the ground, causing it to spit out a mouthful of blood.
nThis time, it was clear that the wolf had suffered heavy injuries. It was even hard for this wolf to stand up again.
nThe bear didn’t care about this wolf, but rather turned to the wolf that was on the ground with a greedy look in its eyes.
nSeeing that the wolf that it had been fighting wasn’t able to hold on anymore, the bear ignored it and charged out at the wolf that was on the ground.
nThe other wolf tried to jump in front of the wolf on the ground, but its legs crumbled under it as it tried to move.
nIt could only watch as the bear swung its claws at the wolf on the ground.
nHowever, before the bear’s claws could hit the wolf on the ground, there was a sword that was suddenly swung at the bear.
nThe bear could sense the danger that came from this sword and immediately stopped moving forward. It quickly jumped back and avoided the falling sword by a small margin.
nThe owner of the sword didn’t mind the bear and jumped back, landing in front of the wolf that was on the ground.
nThe wolf that had been injured saw this and quickly came to the side of the wolf on the ground, but after seeing that the owner of the sword didn’t have any ill intentions, the wolf turned its attention back to the bear.
nNaturally the owner of the sword was Lin Fan who had jumped out to stop the bear.
nThis bear was a spirit beast which was equivalent to someone in the First Qi Gathering Realm, so that meant that it wasn’t any weaker than Lin Fan.
nSeeing that there was another opponent, the bear became much more careful, but it was also clear that it wouldn’t back down.
nLin Fan knew that it would be dangerous to face the bear head on, so he waved his hand to catch the wolf’s attention and then gave it a few hand signals.
nHe wasn’t certain if the wolf would understand what he meant by those hand signals, but without any hesitation, he rushed forward at the bear.
nThe bear was surprised to see Lin Fan running at it by himself, but it didn’t back down. It stood up on its two back legs and swept down at Lin Fan with its front paws.
nLin Fan saw the two giant bear paws falling down on him and he raised his sword to block them which was strange. He had more than enough time to dodge out of the way, but instead, he chose to raise his sword to block the attack instead.
nHowever, it was at this moment that the wolf suddenly charged forward before jumping into the air.
nWith the trajectory of this jump, it was clear that it was targeting the back of the bear.
nThe bear naturally saw this and in an instant, it started twisting as it brought one of its paws up while the other paw continued falling down at Lin Fan’s sword.
nThe bear had recognized that it was strange that Lin Fan would charge at it to face it head on, so it had kept its guard up. It seemed like that was the right choice since it recognized that the plan the two of them had was to use Lin Fan as bait while the wolf attacked it.
nThey clearly didn’t expect the bear to be this flexible with its large build, but the bear was confident in its abilities, so it didn’t have anything to fear from these two.
nIt was just too bad that this was all part of Lin Fan’s plan as well.
nIt was a double bait.
nRight after the bear turned and lifted up one of its paws, Lin Fan suddenly moved to the side slightly and his sword to the left of the paw. Then in one smooth and swift motion, he parried the paw, letting it slide down the length of his sword without any danger to himself.
nOnce the paw had slid down the sword to hit the ground, Lin Fan suddenly swung up at the neck of the bear.
nThe bear knew that it was in danger and was about to ignore the wolf to bring its other paw down to slam Lin Fan into the ground, but it found that it couldn’t bring its paw down at all.
nOut of the corner of its eyes, it could see that the wolf was standing on its back, biting its paw.
nAt the moment that its attention had been diverted by Lin Fan, the wolf had already landed on its back and was biting at its paw, not letting it go at all.
nThe bear tried all that it could to pull its paw back, but it couldn’t do it in time as Lin Fan’s blade had already arrived at its neck.
nLin Fan had released all his spiritual energy into this one swing. The moment that the blade of his sword touched the neck of the bear, it immediately cut right through it and blood spurted out, completely covering Lin Fan.
nBut with this spurt of blood, the head of the bear was chopped off and turned in the air twice before landing on the ground.
nThen a few seconds after that, the large body of the bear collapsed to the ground with a large thud sound.
n
