Chapter 279 - Dragon-like Man
“An emissary from the Church of Light requests an audience with the master of the Divine Light Dragon.”
The walls of the Oak Tavern had been shattered and the door had long disappeared. A neatly-dressed man with smooth, shiny hair stood at the door to announce his arrival.
Although there were no emissaries in the tavern, the man was well-mannered, so no one could find fault with him.
“Please come in.”
Locke had long expected someone to come. He moved a sofa and placed it on the stairs on the second floor. He held a glass of wine.
“The Church of Light’s messenger, Terry, on behalf of Bishop Stevenson Twain, sends his regards to sir.”
Terry took a step forward, placed one hand on his chest, and bowed deeply. He ignored Locke’s rudeness.
“Good day, sir. Give my regards to Steven… Uh, bishop.”
Locke took a sip of his fine wine and casually replied.
“It’s Stevenson Twain, one of the oldest nobles in Cloud City, and the pride of Cloud City.
“Thank you for your greetings, sir. I’ll definitely convey your greetings to the bishop.”
“May I know how to address you, sir?”
Terry could tell that he came from a noble family. No matter how rude Locke was, he did not get angry. On the contrary, he kept to his duty.
With this kind of bearing, ordinary nobles would not be able to train him.
“I’m Locke, just a commoner. I don’t understand your etiquette. I’m sorry.”
A sincere apology was received.
“Don’t mind it, Mr. Locke. I can see that you don’t have a good impression of Cloud City. Last night’s incident must have been unpleasant.”
“No, no, last night was a pretty good night.” Locke glanced at Hathaway.
Terry: ???
“To be honest, I came to Cloud City to help my female companion to detoxify. But now it seems that it’s no longer necessary.
“Please go back and tell Steve… Lord bishop, we’ll leave after we take a look, so we’re unable to pay him a visit.”
Locke racked his brain. He had a headache because he could not remember the bishop’s name.
“It’s bishop Stevenson Twain. May I ask if Mr. Locke is interested in joining the Church of Light or if your Divine Light Dragon is for sale?”
It was obviously not Terry’s first time dealing with a hooligan like Locke.
He did not take Locke’s repeated teasing of the bishop’s name to heart.
To deal with a person like Locke, he had to be direct.
If the terms were not good, then it would be the matter of City Lord Reid, which had nothing to do with Terry.
“I’m idling. The Church of Light isn’t suitable for me.”
Locke rejected the offer without hesitation and keenly noticed a flash of killing intent in Terry’s eyes.
‘As expected, the tavern owner did not lie to me.
‘I’ve really been targeted.’
Locke knew the truth of a man’s wealth.
At that time, to save Hathaway, he had forgotten to put away the Divine Light Dragon. He did not expect to cause so much trouble.
He had just dealt with Morgan and now there was a bishop, with a level 5 city lord behind him.
It seemed that if this problem was not solved, he would not be able to leave in peace.
“However, it’s not like we can’t talk about the Divine Light Dragon. Let’s see if you’re sincere.”
“Oh, I wonder what kind of terms Mr. Locke wants in exchange?”
Terry was already prepared to leave, but when he heard Locke’s words, he could not help but stop in his tracks.
His mission was to find out more about Locke.
If he really was a descendant of a large family, then even the Church of Light would not be able to do anything to him.
From the moment the two met, Terry knew that Locke was a commoner.
Moreover, he had been a commoner for generations.
Terry was able to become an emissary of the Church of Light as a servant. He was even popular in front of the bishop because he had a pair of discerning eyes.
Even the good-for-nothing Morgan had the shadow of an aristocrat’s education.
However, on Locke, there was not a trace of an aristocrat.
From the way he sat on the sofa and held the wine glass, it could be concluded that Locke absolutely had no connections with the aristocrats.
Even a down-and-out aristocrat would not hold a goblet by grabbing it.
That was the exclusive grip of a bumpkin.
With this information, it was enough to go back and complete the mission.
Next, as long as City Lord Reid made a move to kill Locke and take the Divine Light Dragon, it would be enough.
Only a Battle Beast at the level of the Divine Light Dragon was worthy of Bishop Stevenson Twain’s noble identity.
However, when Locke said that it could be traded, Terry could not hold back anymore.
No matter what the conditions were, even if they were a little harsh, if he could exchange for the Divine Light Dragon, it would do him a great merit.
To hand Locke over to City Lord Reid, he would need the archbishop to cast a healing spell to help Morgan heal his injuries.
Casting a healing spell would consume the archbishop’s lifespan as a prerequisite.
As long as the conditions could be negotiated, it would be equivalent to saving the archbishop’s lifespan.
This was something that no amount of gold, silver or treasure could exchange for.
Such a great merit would definitely raise his status to another level.
Terry’s breathing became heavy.
After taking a deep breath and forcing himself to calm down, Terry asked Locke.
“I haven’t thought of the conditions yet.”
“The Divine Light Dragon is about to advance. Before it matures, it can at least advance to level seven. It should be worth something!
“Why don’t you tell me what you have to offer in exchange?
“Maybe I’ll agree to it!”
Locke had thought of letting the Swamp Hydra devour the Divine Light Dragon, but he was a little reluctant to do so.
Hence, he thought of finding a light-type Battle Beast to replace it.
Although the Divine Light Dragon was powerful, it was not impossible for Locke to give it up.
No matter how precious a Battle Beast was, it was not as important as life.
This was the reason why he decisively chose to sacrifice the fire and wind elves.
After all, there was a hidden evolutionary path. It was too easy for Locke to nurture a Battle Beast.
This was his true trump card.
“The value of the Divine Light Dragon goes without saying.
“If Mr. Locke is sincere in selling it, I can go back and consult the bishop. After all, this isn’t something that I can decide.
“Don’t worry. With the bishop’s status, he’ll definitely give you a satisfactory price.”
Terry took a deep look at Locke as if he wanted to see through this man’s soul.
This was the first time that there was a person that Terry could not see through.
He was clearly just a vulgar commoner.
There was even a trace of vulgarity that was unique to the lower class.
However, why did he see a trace of heroism in that moment earlier?
This was a characteristic of heroism that only existed in the nine heavens. It was like a dragon soaring freely between heaven and earth, unrestrained by any rules.
What nobles and what rules, in front of them, were all vanity.
They were originally nobles and wealthy families. If they wanted to, they could even be emperors.
Any bit of residue from their hands would be enough to build a thousand-year-old aristocratic family.
