Chapter 3 - The Bunker

nThe bunker was located in a remote, secluded place in a forest north of Moscow. It was buried 50 meters under the ground.
nIt was a three story bunker, and each floor was around 500 square meters wide.
nThe first floor was split into a 100 square meter living room, dining area, kitchen, jacuzzi, a fitness center, and a fully-stocked cinema. Every meter of the room was utilized to its maximum potential, leaving no space wasted.
nThe second floor housed all the living quarters of the people in the bunker. Each employee would get a basic, small room with a bed and shared bathroom while the guests would be treated with an extravagant guest room. Of course, as the owner of the bunker, Viktor got the largest room.
nThe third floor, the one at the lowest level, was a restricted place. There was a 100 meter freezer, similar size dry storage and an engine room to maintain air quality. In addition, there was a vault to keep some of the myriad Romanov family treasures.
nOnce a week, a transmission from above would arrive. The content was all different retellings of the same bad news; undead and mutated animals. Until eventually, one day after three months, the message stopped coming altogether.
nUpon realization, this matter immediately led to a meeting among the bunker residents. Some were thinking of going out of the bunker to check the situation outside, while some proposed they maintained their status quo.
nViktor’s guest-slash-girlfriend, Eva, was one among these groups.
nThe tall blonde woman was a granddaughter of the Swedish king, a real royal princess. Evangeline Amelia Bardott, She was assigned by the family to be his official girlfriend.-.
n“Viktor.. Dear… Why don’t you send one of your bodyguards to take a look outside? It would definitely make me and the others feel much better… Ja?”
nEva certainly has her charm, she was actually one of the few people whose request Viktor found hard to resist. Moreover, not following her wishes would sour their relationship and put an end to their weekly ‘get to know more’ in bed sessions.
nIt was certainly something Viktor would not want to happen, but on the other hand, he thought that sending one or two of his limited bodyguards would only endanger himself and by extension, everyone in this bunker.
nFortunately, Nicko, Viktor’s best friend slash business partner, was there to help calm everybody down.
nHe was famous as a startup developer who started from nothing and became successful by being involved in the development of one of the most famous social media apps.
nThanks to his reputation, he managed to make everyone willing to hear his reasoning.
nHe was able to convince the guests that the world has suffered a lot of pandemics over the course of history and it was much safer to stay inside because of the virus. The reason was with the current world technology, it would take at least one year for any kind of vaccine to be created. Hence, he suggests two years would be a safe time frame to come out.
nViktor also supported his friend’s effort by adding that the bunker has enough supplies for one person to live comfortably for a lifetime. As for 25 people, they should have enough for three years. Therefore, the group quickly reached a consensus to leave after 2 years.
nThis made his girlfriend smile once again and it seemed tonight’s ‘session’ would go along just fine. Honestly among the hostess and the masseuses, doing a princess would always be better.
nHowever, before the group dispersed and went about their own business, one person apparently stayed unconvinced.
nThat person was one of his guests and friend named Yugo. The son of a big mining company who talks big about not being afraid of going out of the bunker.
n“Are you really not going to let me out, Viktor? Are we a prisoner here?!”
nThe sudden hostility really made his mood sour, Viktor glanced at Nicko asking for help. However, even after an hour of talking, the man still didn’t budge from his stance. Eventually, even Nicko himself ran out of ideas.
n“Viktor, this probably not a bad idea, If Yugo wants to take a risk, let him go. After all, we will benefit if he manages to receive news.”
nViktor could see all of his guests seemed to be in one line with the idea, and he also knew he had no reason to keep Yugo in if the latter was so headstrong in his decision.
n“Alright!! My friend, I sincerely hope for your safe return.” said Viktor while smiling wryly.
nYugo was given a hazmat suit, a bag of supplies, and a weapon. Several minutes later, he was ready to go out of the bunker. As there were limited suits, only a few people went to the entrance room with him to send him off. Those people were Viktor, Eva, Nicko, and the 4 bodyguards that were led by captain Patroski.
nBefore leaving, Viktor once again tried to change Yugo’s mind, telling him not to go and wait together with them. Alas, the other party still refused his intention.
nThe 6-inch door was opened, and the bodyguard readied their guns as Yugo walked out of the bunker accompanied by the captain.
nIt took the captain 15 minutes before he returned back to the bunker.
n“Anything interesting outside, captain?”
nCaptain Patroski shook his head at the question. “Just tree and snow, master.”
nHearing those things both Eva and Nicko were delighted, and they happily walked back to the bunker.
nWhen they two had entered the bunker, Captain Petroski approached Viktor and secretly showed a bloody knife that he quickly wiped with a cloth.
n“It’s done, young master.”
n“Was he in pain?”
n“No, it was quick as you specificly ask”
nViktor took a deep breath and sigh, Yugo was a friend that he liked to hang out with. However, with such a situation, he could not allow any chance that his safety would be compromised.
nIf the world was already full of monsters and humanity has failed, then Yugo would only meet with demise anyway. However, if by chance he did find any survivors then it would endanger his bunker location.
nHe was not proud of what he did, but he certainly knew he had done the right thing.
nViktor walked back toward the living room, took a glass of Vodka and raised it high.
n“This is for Yugo safety and well beings! Cheers!!’
n“Boodem zdarovy!”
nThe group quickly followed and Viktor raised another glass and said
n“And this is for the best two years of our life!!”
n“za Shastye!”
nSex, delicacies, and any sort of crazy games made the days go by quickly.
nEveryone entertained themselves to their hearts’ content, counting down the days until the promised two years came.
nHowever, a mere one month before the long-awaited date, while everyone was soaking in the comfortable jacuzzi and having fun, a loud banging sound could be heard echoing from the direction of the entrance.
nBang!! Bang!!
n
