Chapter 48 - Chaos

n

n

nShriekkkkk!

nIt was such a powerful scream, much stronger than before

nThe piercing shriek in the air made everyone’s head feel as if it was pierced with a thousand needles at once. But for Viktor, it surprisingly didn’t feel as painful as before.

nIt was either because he had become used to it or because of his increase in spirit force, and the latter seemed the most plausible to him.

nEither way, it is now the best time to act while the others are currently distracted.

nNot wanting to waste the opportunity, Viktor immediately threw a swift punch at the person who dare to touched the lamp.

nBam! Bam!

nOne straight to the stomach and one uppercut to the jaw, both were strong enough to send the earth realm figure drop to his knees and knock off his teeth from where they were supposed to be. The man covered his mouth and the part of stomach that Viktor had previously punched with his hands, a groan of pain escaped his mouth as he did so.

nWith the limited effects of the golden lemmings attack, Viktor quickly dashed and jumped towards the second person, threw another punch, and grabbed Eva while shouting at her.

n“Get inside!!

nThe two only managed to take two steps into the hut when his ears picked up a loud bang from the distance.-.

nBam!!

nThe sound was recognizable, it was the same sniper shot from before.

nViktor was currently facing away from the bullet, but there was a strange feeling that the bullet was moving rapidly toward him and was about to hit the right side of his back.

nWithin a split second, he decided to use his 49 points of agility to sidestep the shot just far enough to avoid serious injury. Most of the bullet flew past his body, and he could feel the hot metal grazing against his upper arm.

nIt was as if the sniper shot became a sign, The other people in brown jackets immediately aimed their guns and started firing them towards Viktor and Eva.

nJust like before, Viktor could sense the trajectory of the bullets without looking at them and this time the sensation was even more clear. Thanks to that, he knew where he should move to avoid them.

nViktor continued to maneuver around until the two of them successfully entered the hut again. Even though this seemed long, everything only happened in a matter of seconds.

nSeeing their master being shot, his two loyal bodyguards Boris and Torri quickly returned fire. A barrage of dozen bullets rapidly poured toward Olga’s band of people, successfully hitting one of them.

nHowever, Viktor who was already inside the hut shouted when he saw his subordinates’ actions.

n“What the ** are you doing? Get down! They have a sniper, you fools!”

nAt the same time, Olga also shouted.

n“Don’t shoot!! Are you crazy!! You almost killed our gold mine!!”

nWith the two leaders of the group ordered to retreat, the showdown of hot bullets was quickly stopped.

nThe bearded man was cursing his goons before he glared at the hut where Viktor and the others were and shouted.

n“I’m not going to play nice anymore! Get me the rich bastard, and kill the others!”

nWith the order, all four people hiding in the bushes decided to emerge. One of them was a thin man carrying a massive sniper rifle on his back. Now, all ten of them looked ready to storm into the hut.

nAs Viktor watched the group approach the hut and tried to think of what to do, he realized that there was one who was still left out in the open. It stood between them and the hut, as if declaring that the former would first have to walk past its corpse to advance.

nIt was a little creature with golden fur.

n“It’s this little thing that makes that deafening sound!” said Andrei hatefully.

nOlga, who turned his head to the golden lemming and heard Andrei’s words, immedaitely took out his handgun and fired a bullet at the golden rat’s head.

nClank!!

nThe group of ten men watched as the metal bullet bounced off the rat’s fur as if it was nothing. On the other hand, the shot didn’t really hurt it, but the golden lemming still didn’t move. It seemed too tired to move while still staring at Olga in rage.

n“Ooohh, angry aren’t you, little fella!? Hah! What are you gonna do about it?!!” mocked Olga with derision.

nRight as the man finished his words, a sound of rustling was suddenly heard coming from somewhere. Turning his gaze towards it, Olga realized that the forest line on his left shook fiercely.

n“What the **…”

nTo answer his question, right after the bearded man finished speaking, hundreds of little grey lemmings were seen coming out of the tree lines and all of them were charging towards the ten men.

n“What in the world?!”

nWithout realizing it, the bearded man and his men took a step back, terrified at the sight of grey, squirming waves that ran to them at high speed. However, Olga recovered quickly and assessed the situation before barking out another order.

n“Don’t run!! Fight!!”

nWhen they heard that, all the people in brown jackets, including Captain Andrei, swiftly took out their weapons and prepared themselves to fight. A row of weapons was aimed at the gray flood that seemed desperate to annihilate everything in its path.

nIn the meantime, Viktor was watching from inside the safety of his hut, through a small gap on barred window.

n“Wow! This is sure to be interesting! Come and watch!!” beckoned Viktor to Barry and Eva, as if they were about to miss an amazing action buster movie.

nTratatatatatat!

nHalf of the group started shooting in all directions with their assault weapons, while the other half used their melee weapons to sweep at the incoming lemmings. From here, Viktor could clearly see how the group utilized various kinds of weapons such as swords, maces, and spears.

nFrom what he observed, Viktor could guess that the half who used firearms must be initial stage fighters, while three who used melee weapons must be mid-stage fighters. This must be true as only those who are strong would be brave enough to face creatures directly.

nHe watched with amazement as they started to cast magic in conjunction with their attacks.

nOne conjured sparks of blue lightning from his palm which then jumped around and killed a few of the rats. One was able to harden his skin into stone, while the last one placed his hand on the snow before Viktor saw him manipulating it by freezing the lemmings in it. Furthermore, with all the abundance of snow around him, he created a tall wall of ice that shone under the light.

n“Amazing!!”

nHowever, the ice wall appeared to be too thin, and after a wave of grey lemmings crashed into it, it broke into a million pieces. Everyone’s eyes immediately widened, their expression turned into one of panic.

nIt was Captain Andrei who recovered first, as he stood in the front and pulled his sword. Fire started to cover the blade and as he swung it, he created a line of fire, scaring the dozens of lemmings and forcing them to detour.

nThe group even have grenades as explosion started appearing and bringing a few lemming down at a time

nKaboommm!!! Kaboooommmm!!

nWithin a few minutes, the snow-covered field outside of the hut has turned into the embodiment of a warzone. Considering the way everything is going, these people could actually win against the lemmings. Hence, Viktor quickly ordered his two bodyguards to open fire as he understood that the lemmings had to win to make sure he was safe.

n“Shoot them! Shoot!”

nBoth Boris and Torri quickly started to shoot their ak47.

nTratatatatata! tratatata!

nCaught off guard, the rain of bullets was able to hit the lightning user on the head and kill him instantly as brain matter spilled on the once pristine snow. A few more were wounded, and as they realized what happened, the stone user and the ice user quickly created a layered wall between them and the hut as a shield.

nUnfortunately, the damage has been done. Moreover, they seem to be unable to create two walls at the same time. No longer restrained, a dozen lemmings quickly jumped into the group, creating chaos in their midst.

nViktor only had a few moments, but he saw Olga glow in a pale green light, and dashed towards the hut in such speeds, enough to displace all the snow around him.

n“Damn! He’s fast!”

n
