Chapter 77 - The Request

nMorning arrived, and a person came early to release them. To Viktor’s surprise, when he looked at the person who came, it was not the eye-patched man who greeted his sight.

n“Good morning. Sorry to wake you all so early in the morning,” the person greeted when their eyes met.

nIt was Jessie. She had an energetic smile on her face, and with the warm sunlight shining on her brown high ponytail, she looked as bright and cheerful as ever.

n“Morning, Jessie. Is it time for us to leave?” Viktor returned her greeting with a relaxed smile and asked.

nThe girl gave him her best smile before answering.

n“Not quite yet… Well, actually yes, but I hope you will listen to me first… Do you mind letting a girl, a few minutes of your time?”

nIn truth, in the time they had to stay there, Viktor had already thought of a way to get attached to the town. However, seeing that they came to seek him first presented him with a better option, so he agreed to her request.

nJessie opened up the cage and let Viktor out. As for the others, as much as they wanted to go with him, they still had to stay for the time being.-.

nAfter Viktor stepped out, Jessie closed back the cage. As she locked it, the girl looked toward Eva apologetically and said, “Let me borrow your boyfriend for a while, okay?”

nJessie led him to the half-burned building where there were only a few guards around. This surprised Viktor a little. As he looked around while quietly following Jessie, he noticed that other than at the gate, there were really no guards around this town.

nThere were quite a number of machinery and tools around them. This quickly made Viktor think that this place was a workshop, but as soon as he entered the next room, that thought was swiftly changed.

nThe moment the room’s door opened, he immediately saw numerous weapons of different shapes and sizes. Among them, the ones that piqued his interest were a dozen rifles on the table. Viktor recognized them; these rifles were of the same type as the one that shot lasers during last night’s battle.

nSeeing Viktor attentively looking at the rifles, Jessie’s previously energetic and carefree attitude suddenly turned serious.

n“Do you know why the chief said you were lying?”

nThe question snapped Viktor out of his thoughts and pulled his attention. He did not know why the chief thought so, but he indeed wanted to know.

n“Because your story doesn’t add up. You clearly come from a wealthy Russian family, so it’s very unlikely for you to get lost. On the other hand, it surprised us how little you seem to know about the current world… For example…” Jessie paused and turned to look at the laser rifles on the table. “You don’t know what this is, do you?”

nThe girl grabbed one of the rifles and swiftly aimed it at him. Her actions were clearly threatening him, but she had a smile on her face.

nWith the gun aimed right at his head, Viktor quickly raised his hands to the air. That thing could kill a hellhound and critter easily. If the laser shot him, he would undoubtedly die!

nSeeing Viktor’s reaction, the girl could not contain her chuckles.

n“Haha! Sorry, sorry! It’s empty, so no need to be so tense. All these guns are empty,” Jessie relaxedly put the rifle back at the table before continuing her words.

n“These energy weapons are the most common weapons used by humans these days, so it’s pretty weird that you were so excited about this”

nThe girl continued walking toward a door and opened it. After signaling for him to follow her, she happily led him to the next room.

nHow good her mood was left him speechless. Was his reaction so amusing? Not only did she point a rifle at him, but it also wasn’t an ordinary rifle!

nEven so, Viktor kept quiet until they arrived. The moment Viktor entered the room, a weird rectangular object caught his eye. The object was two meters tall, and it had a shiny letter glowing on it.

n“I’m guessing that you don’t know what this is either. This is a monolith, the thing that creates the energy barrier that protected the gate last night,” Jessie briefly explained.

nAs Viktor observed the rectangular object, a thought occurred to him. Both this monolith and those laser guns most likely were the same alien technology his axe and ring did.

nIn other words, all of them came from those alien constructs.

nSeeing Viktor in thought while looking at the monolith, Jessie continued speaking.

n“So, Viktor, as you heard last night, we are running out of spirit stones to power this monolith. Even if we were to send a hunting party, it still won’t be enough in the long run, especially since Kenth and the others have left the town.”

nHearing this, Viktor turned to look at the girl and asked.

n“So you want me to help you hunt for more spirit stones?”

n“No… actually…” Jessie hesitated with her eyes averted. She was unsure whether she should explain it or not, but under Viktor’s inquiring gaze, she finally said.

n“Come with me.”

nJessie took him to the corner of the room, which looked more like a lab than a workshop. There was also a big machine and a pool of green liquid. It took Viktor a few seconds before he realized what was in front of him.

nHe reflexively gasped out of shock.

n“This… this is a nuclear reactor! Isn’t it!?” he asked with widened eyes.

nThe girl casually smiled like a kid who was found doing something bad.

n“Hahaha… dont be silly!… this is not a nuclear reactor….This is an **Rs, a small modular reactor… well… it is, but it’s just a micro one.”

nJessie briefly explain how she was currently close to finding a way to create enough energy to power up the monolith without the need of spirit stones. Her tone was relaxed, but her eyes were beaming with excitement as she spoke.

nAlthough Viktor only half-understood what she was saying, he could tell that it was a crazy thing to do. Not to mention, for it to be said by a young woman such as her so casually, no one would probably believe it, but her eyes did not lie.

n“So, Viktor, I need someone to help me grab some of the missing parts. It will be dangerous, but I’m in desperate need of help,” the girl said and once again gave her best smile. “Will you help a girl out?”

nViktor was taken aback. At this moment, one thought came to his mind.

nThis girl must be crazy!
