n“You’re just a weak woman. What can you protect? Aren’t you the one being protected?”
nOnce these words were said, everyone began to doubt Li Ran.
n
n
nTheir emotions were out of control. They looked at Li Ran with hostile gazes.
nLin Nan made eye contact with the soldiers and they began to evacuate the crowd.
nThe soldiers carried out their orders without question.
n“What is the meaning of this? Has the government abandoned us? What are the soldiers doing? Shouldn’t they prioritize the civilians’ lives? This is so wrong and selfish!”
n
n
n“That’s right! Most of the soldiers have already left, so who is going to ensure the safety of this place? How did you even train your troops?!”
n“They don’t care about us!”
n“More zombies are coming!”
n“…”
n
n
nThe situation was out of control.
nIn order to prevent them from leaving, some people cling to the plane fervently, refusing to let go.
nSome even ignored the soldiers’ warning and rushed forward forcefully.
n“Soldiers are supposed to protect civilians. You must guard us with your lives! Don’t tarnish the reputation of a soldier and disappoint the people!”
n“The zombies are squeezing through the gates! There are so many people here but only two planes! Do we even have enough time?”
n“It’s a bluff! If we wait here, we’ll die!”
n
n
nLi Ran did not expect things to turn out this way and was extremely frustrated.
nShe stood up and forced a smile while waving her hand. Her voice was not loud, but it was heard by the crowd.
n“Okay, I won’t board the plane. I’ll stay here. Everyone, please calm down. I understand your concerns. We will think of a solution together.”
nLi Ran had to make a compromise.
nAfter hearing what his wife said, Lin Nan frowned. He got close to her and whispered, “It may be too late and your life is more important.”
n“I know but I think you shouldn’t give up on this place so easily. Why don’t you go first and make proper arrangements? After that, you can come back for me.”
nLin Nan pursed his lips.
n“Then I’ll stay with you. I won’t leave. I’ll give my orders to the soldiers.”
n
n
nAs he spoke, Lin Nan waved at the soldiers, indicating for them to take off.
nLi Ran held his hand and smiled.
n“Don’t worry. It’s still safe here. We’ll get through it. I’ll be right beside you.”
nHer words touched his heart. Lin Nan composed himself and retreated in an orderly manner.
n“I’m going to look for Fang Lin. You’ll wait in my room. Once I’m done, I’ll look for you.”
nLi Ran nodded and said, “If there’s anything that I can help you with, just let me know.”
n“No. It’s alright.”
nLin Nan said in a firm tone. He looked around and there were anxious people everywhere. Some of them were even crying.
nSuddenly, Li Ran shook her head.
n“Actually, I’m going to use this time to look for my friend. I’m worried about her.”
nLin Nan knew who she was talking about. It was none other than Lin Ke. He appreciated her because she had always helped out his wife.
nHowever, he still felt troubled.
nHe went to a couple of soldiers and said in a low voice, “Follow her. No matter what happens, protect her with your lives.”
n
n
n“Roger!”
nThe two soldiers responded dutifully and immediately carried out their mission.
nLi Ran ran towards the crowd and began scanning for Lin Ke.
nAs for Lin Nan, he continued to look for Fang Lin.
nOne of the planes landed and Lin Nan realized that Fang Lin had brought civilians to another safe base in a different district. He only had a small team of firemen and policemen to assist him. All the soldiers were occupied.
nFang Lin was trying his best to resolve the situation. However, there were limitations and it was impossible to perform a large transfer. They barely had any supplies left.
