nChapter 31

nThe bald guy looked up to the direction of the end of the alley. All he could see was a tall figure walking over, the target was obviously the place they were at. Not only that, it seemed like they came prepared. His instincts told him that something was wrong so he stood up. “Let’s go!”

nThe group of people quickly escaped to the other end of the alley.

nAnhao struggled to sit up but there was no energy left in her.

nShe did not know what had happened. Suddenly, the figure walked to her side. That person took off their coat and wrapped it around her frail frame that was curled up on the floor due to the cold. After doing so, the person held her by the waist and lifted her up.

nAnhao’s gaze was blurry for a moment. She was stunned as she stared at Zuo Hancheng who had appeared within her view so suddenly.

n“You… how…” She was slightly shocked.

nZuo Hancheng was calm and collected. He did not say a word as he carried her firmly in his arms, turned around and exited the alley.

nAnhao leaned onto his chest absent-mindedly as she did not know what was going on. She suddenly heard sounds of a fight and screams coming from behind at the other end of the alley. The wailing and howls became more and more miserable. She did not know what kind of people Zuo Hancheng had come with, or what method he planned to use against them.

nShe was in utter confusion, and was even thinking that she might be dreaming.

nThe clean, masculine scent of this man made her drowsy. She was even feeling calm and composed, like her entire heart was about to drop to the ground.

nThe girl in his arms was burning up. Both her cheeks were red from her fever. Zuo Hancheng was not bothered with words, all he did was carry her into the car. Mobai, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, saw President Zuo carrying a girl in uniform into the car. He was confused, but he did not dare to ask questions.

nAnhao slowly blacked out, but she knew that Zuo Hancheng had carried her into the car. The composed feeling made her drowsy. The first thing she could hear coming from him was his deep and placid voice saying, “Mobai, to the hospital.”

nAlong the way, all Anhao could feel was the warmth emanating from him as she rested in his arms. Even though she knew that this person was Zuo Hancheng, she was somehow attached to the warmth this man was mysteriously exuding, wrapping her whole.

nShe did not know how much time went by. After she was carried into the hospital while still confused and dazed, she collapsed into a deep sleep after two continuous days of high fever.

n***

nThe way Anhao slept when she was ill was truly something.

nZuo Hancheng entered the ward through the door. A nurse was holding an infusion bottle and a needle as she said, “Mr Zuo, the lady you brought in is so difficult to treat. Her fever has been running for days. She should not have any strength at all with that fever of hers, but she is still able to curl up like a ball. I can’t find a way to turn her over. How am I supposed to give her an injection with this sleeping posture of hers…”

nThe nurse complained about Anhao’s peculiar sleeping posture as she observed Zuo Hancheng’s expression.

nEvery time she saw this Mr Zuo, she could not help but blush as her heart beat faster. This time, she called him over because she could not give an injection, but truthfully there were selfish motives behind her actions.

nZuo Hancheng stared at Anhao who was lying on the sickbed.

nAfter the girl was admitted into the hospital, the doctor diagnosed her illness as a viral infection. It became even more serious after she exposed herself to the cold. As such, the doctor suggested not giving her any injections to bring down her fever for now.

nJust like that, after two days of physical cooling and monitoring her temperature, not only was there no sign of her temperature going down—her condition had instead worsened. She was even mumbling while dreaming in her sleep.

nHe had just returned to the country and was looking after the girl in the hospital for the past two days. He had certainly seen her peculiar sleeping posture.

nHe saw Anhao curled up in the blanket in some sort of a defensive posture. Her face was pale, eyes shut tight and her hands covering her chest, as if this was the safest posture. However, her brows that would furrow from time to time proved that she was not at ease in her dreams.

n“Mr Zuo, Ms Gu’s temperature has not gone down yet. I’m afraid she would contract inflammation so I want to give her an IV drip for the next two days. Now that she’s sleeping in such a posture, I’m being put in a tight spot here…” The nurse muttered.

nZuo Hancheng glanced at the nurse’s expression. He did not say anything as he walked to Anhao’s side and pulled the corner of the blanket. He sat at the edge of the bed and scooped up Anhao who was curled up and lying sideways.

nEven when the girl was weakened from the fever, she was still stubborn when sleeping. She maintained this curled up pose and did not move an inch. She was forced into his arms but her legs were still curled up, her face was stuck closely to his chest and her eyes shut tight.

nThe way this man just scooped up the patient was so smooth and domineering. The nurse could not help but stare at the man’s handsome face as she blushed and her heart started beating faster.

nThe man was so handsome! Just how much good fortune did the young lady on the bed have to gather from her past lives to be able to land such a man! She was so envious!

n“Why are you still standing there?” Zuo Hancheng grabbed her hands which were rigidly covering her chest and pulled her hand outward for the nurse. “Inject here.”

n“Ah, okay…” The nurse blushed and awkwardly walked over. After hanging the drips, she carefully bent down to inject Anhao.

nHowever, since she was being stared at by such a handsome man in such close proximity while she was injecting, she felt suffocated. The nurse was so nervous that she failed to find the target twice. Anhao, who was still talking in her dreams, instinctively tried to pull her hand back. Her voice croaked as she moaned, “Ouch…”

nWhen Anhao groaned in confusion with her eyes closed, it looked as if she was about to cry as well. Zuo Hancheng immediately glared at the nurse. “Do it properly. If you can’t do your job, get someone else to do it.”

nThe nurse pursed her lips. She did not dare to look at the man’s face as she was afraid she would make herself even more nervous. She pricked the needle once more for the last time and finally got the right vein. After putting on the plasters on the needle, she then retreated. After having escaped from the cold stares from the man, she felt as if she was being revived from the dead.

n“Mr Zuo, there are three bottles of this medicine in total. She needs to have the drip for about two hours.” The nurse recollected herself and said.

n“Alright.” Zuo Hancheng steadily held Anhao’s hand in his and put it back in front of her chest. He then patted her curled up body gently, his voice clear and calm.

nWhen the nurse walked out of the ward with her broken heart, Mobai just so happened to bring some documents over. He opened the door and saw his boss sitting at the edge of the bed, hugging the girl who was in deep sleep. He was actually holding her in his arms as she got her drips in.

nMobai was slightly surprised. Ever since Ms. Rong left that year, so many years had gone by. How many years had it been since President Zuo took the initiative to approach a woman? And how many years had it been since President Zuo treated a woman so patiently…
