nChapter 32
nMobai hesitated for a moment and walked toward them with documents in his hands. He saw the girl leaning on his chest without a clue what was going on in the world—she was still sound asleep. He opened his mouth and uttered in a hushed voice.
n“President Zuo, there’s news from the police. You were right. Those gangsters were sent by members of the Xu family. It seems that their sons were in cahoots with some gangsters outside of the family. When they confessed at the police station, they said that they received money from the two sons of the Xu family to teach Ms. Gu a lesson.”
nZuo Hancheng held Anhao’s hand which was hooked up to the drip, and with the other hand, he took the documents from the police station handed over by Mobai. After he was done reading the records of the testimonies, he said calmly, “The Xu family? I didn’t plan to remember small characters like them. The business world is a volatile one, since they handle things without a sense of propriety, they will be eliminated sooner or later. They were not even worth my time nor effort. However, they did a good job raising two good sons. How dare they touch my person.”
nIt had been a long time since President Zuo’s calm voice had turned so cold. Mobai’s expression was solemn and he remained silent as he stood humbly at the side of the bed.
n“President Zuo, I’ve asked that the police handle the situation accordingly. Those gangsters were not only crippled, they won’t be walking out from prison, ever.”
nAs he said so, Mobai suddenly took out his phone and checked it. He then continued on, “The Xu Real Estate tried to take a share out of several construction auctions. They also bribed the F Government quite a lot this year, and it seems like they are hoping that their business will skyrocket by the end of the year.”
nZuo Hancheng’s dashing eyebrows moved slightly and he glanced at Mobai. “You know what to do.”
nMobai nodded. “Yes. Be rest assured, President Zuo. I will make Xu Real Estate disappear from A City within a week. I will also ensure that the Xu family pack their bags and leave with their sons, as far away as possible. If they dare do anything stupid, I will ensure that they truly learn a lesson. You will not need to handle this small matter personally, President Zuo.”
nThe way Mobai handled things had always reassured Zuo Hancheng. He glanced at the documents in his hand once again and put them on the table beside the bed.
nAs Anhao was in that dreamland of hers, she would unconsciously withdraw her hand that was in his. He tightly gripped onto her hand to prevent her pale little hand from being pricked by the needle. At the same time, he pulled up the blanket that had fallen to her waist, covering up to her shoulders.

nAnhao was almost shocked to death when she woke up at midnight. She was sleeping in Zuo Hancheng’s arms!
nShe tried to calm herself down, and she looked around to analyze her surroundings. She could tell from her surroundings that she was in a patient’s ward.
nShe looked down and saw that there was a medical tape on the back of her palm, most probably from an injection. The pain in her throat felt unbearable and her head was still throbbing. The memories from before she fainted flooded into her head.
nShe furrowed her brows and lifted her hand, wanting to massage her head which felt like it was going to explode.
nIn the end, as soon as she moved, Zuo Hancheng, who had initially wanted to rest for a while, opened his eyes. “You’re up?”
nHearing his voice coming from above her head, Anhao instantly stiffened up. At the same time, she felt him release his hold on her shoulders and leave the bed. He adjusted the pillow and supported her so that she could lean on it.
nAnhao stared at the shirt he was wearing. The high-quality shirt had some faint wrinkles on it, clearly he had been holding her as she was sleeping—for quite some time too, by the looks of it. She could not help but curse deep down. This man would not go as far as to take advantage of her even when she almost died from a fever, would he?
nThe moment he helped her lean back comfortably, their eyes met. From that brief glance, he seemed to have been able to read the nonsensical thoughts that were running through her head. Zuo Hancheng looked at her placidly and said, “When you were sleeping, you kept curling up on your sides, the nurse was not able to give you your injection so I had to hold you.”
n“Why are you explaining yourself? I didn’t say that you did anything to me. You explaining yourself proves that you’re feeling guilty about something.”
nAnhao muttered but because of her fever, her throat was slightly inflamed, resulting in that duck-like croak. She immediately shut her mouth after she opened it.
n“After having slept for days, you must have lots of energy now to bicker with me, huh?” Zuo Hancheng glanced at her with a rather grim smile on his face. “Where’d all that smugness go when you were pinned down by those gangsters?”
nThe corner of Anhao’s mouth twitched. She could not help but mutter under her breath once more, “Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, when you rushed over I was already dead tired…”
nZuo Hancheng ignored her explanation. “I contacted your school. Someone got in touch with the two students in your dorm room. They said that you were under the rain for almost two hours a few nights ago.”
nAnhao’s face stiffened and she silently grinded her teeth. ‘Huang Amao and Chunchun, you two idiots! Why did you give them whatever they wanted?!’
n“Gu Anhao. In my eyes, even though you’re immature, you would not be unreasonably immature.”
nThe look Zuo Hancheng was giving her was one that seemed to be a total re-evaluation of her as a person. He said coldly, “Have you no idea how cold A City is right now? Being in the rain like that? Aren’t you someone who doesn’t even see herself as a woman? Why would you even do something so unreasonable?
n‘Motherf*cker!’
nEven though this man saved her just in the nick of time after coming back from abroad, his words did not have to be so vicious to the point where she was about to go ballistic! She had just woken up after all.
nAnhao was so angered that she rebutted, “You’re unreasonable! Your whole family’s unreasonable! How am I unreasonable just from being under the rain?”
n“Why were you under the rain?” He interrogated.
n“…”
n“Got your heart broken?”
n“…” Anhao’s expression immediately froze as she did not quite know how to answer.
nHe could see that she was rather awkward and restless. Seeing that she was still a naive nineteen-year-old, Zuo Hancheng had said those words without giving it much thought. However, seeing the state she was in upon hearing his words, he furrowed his brows. “I was right?”
nAnhao speechlessly lifted her head and looked at him. “Please. I’m still a patient and in a sickbed. What’s with all the questions? My head hurts so much!”
nIgnoring her whiny complaints, Zuo Hancheng did not intend to drop the matter at all. “Which wild man caught your attention out there?”
n‘W-Wild man!’
nAnhao’s mouth twitched violently. “What wild man?”
n“I’m asking you which wild man broke your heart—to the point where you had to bathe under the cold rain during a winter night with a temperature below zero degrees? Why’re you so heart-broken? Hmm?”
n“…” Anhao stared at the expression on his face. Something was not right, like he was about to pounce on a cheating girl like her at any time and choke her to death. She unwittingly shimmied under the blanket, grabbed the corners of the blanket with both hands and said, “I wasn’t…”
nSeeing that she was obviously guilty but was unwilling to confess, Zuo Hancheng’s face turned dark. “Gu Anhao, your husband went abroad for three days and you actually cheated on me?”
n“Hey! Watch your words! Cheating on you?! I was with my classmates in the dorm every day and then I got sick! How could I have fooled around with this wild man you’re talking about?”
n“Does cheating mentally not count as cheating? If you want to explain, it would be better to just tell me the guy’s name.”
nAnhao was absolutely furious!
n
