Chapter 132

The little boy’s words stopped Shen Yi from his tracks. He smiled back at Shen Zhichen.

“Oh, well… that’s…” he was lost in words. How should he answer the child? Shen Yi knew that the twins already had an emotional attachment to Lu Xinyi by now.

“Let me discuss it with your Aunty Xinxin first. We aren’t planning to have a child but I don’t see why we cannot adopt you and Yuyan,” he replied.

There might be issues on adopting the twins since they still have a father living somewhere. An irresponsible father which will make it easier for Shen Yi and Lu Xinyi to adopt the twins and added them on their family registry.

Shen Zhichen’s face lit up. He dearly hoped and prayed in his heart that Aunty Xinxin will agree.

“Really? Then can we call you Daddy?”

Shen Yi nodded then continued walking at a slow pace so Shen Zhichen could keep up with him.

“Daddy sounds good but I will have to talk with Aunty, okay?” -.

Lu Xinyi was grateful for this sudden trip that they had. With all the reviewing and practicing she was doing lately, she felt that she really need a break from it. She wanted to enjoy this vacation as much as possible.

“You seems happy,” Shen Yi’s voice startled her but she was quick to compose herself.

“I am. We don’t have much time to relax so this vacation is nice.” she hummed, her pen and her shopping list forgotten at the bed as her husband pulled her into his arms. “Where are the twins?”

“Taking a nap.”

“Ohh…” Lu Xinyi thought she could bring the twins with her, to help her shop for their dinner. “What’s bothering you?” she asked when she noticed the deep frown etched on his face.

“Zhichen asked me if we could adopt them.” Shen Yi sighed. Lu Xinyi let her head rest on his chest listening to his heartbeat. He let himself fall on his back with a soft thud on their bed, taking Lu Xinyi with him. He slowly dragged his fingers up and down on her back.

“What did you tell him?” she whispered.

“I said we’ll talk about it.”

All of these had been happening too fast for his liking. Shen Yi had only needed a wife must he got so much more than he asked for. By adopting the twins, that would mean that he and Lu Xinyi had started their own family and would have to raise the children as theirs.

Lu Xinyi was all he wanted. Not that he didn’t like the twins but he wasn’t sure if he could be a father for them. He knew he needed Lu Xinyi on his side if they decided to adopt the twins and with her going to Silver Leaf that wouldn’t be easy.

He didn’t think she knew it yet but he would do anything for her. How this woman able to capture his heart was beyond his comprehension but he wouldn’t question it. Shen Yi had figured out what his mother said when he was younger.

A heart wants what it wants; one’s mind has no say on it. He never imagined himself being with a woman after his first failed relationship but here he was, in love with his wife and he did not mind a bit.

Lu Xinyi sat up and stared down at her husband.

“I really don’t mind adopting them but you know it will affect our future plans, right? Why are you hesitating anyway?” she asked as she undid her ponytail and shook out her hair.

“They are noisy at times…”

“Noisy? You mean too energetic? I’m energetic and loud sometimes.” she pointed out, “but most of the time I’m a lazy ass but you aren’t getting tired of me.”

“Then imagine yourself multiplied by three. My house is getting noisier and cramped with their sudden visit, not to mention my brother crashing on our place for free food like a beggar he is.” Shen Yi complained. He just wanted to live a peaceful life with her. He wanted to try new thing with her, to discover more about her that only them could know.

Lu Xinyi laughed. She knew that her husband prefers to have short interactions with people.

“I see what you mean. I knew what it feels growing up with parents and it’s hard. They may be young but they must have felt the same way I felt when I lost my parents.” Lu Xinyi said with a somber expression on her face.

“It’s strange to think that we agreed not to have children until you finished your studies and yet here we are talking about adopting my nephew and niece.” Shen Yi sat up and rubbed his hands together.

“I think I don’t mind having children and adopting them as long as I have you…” he confessed.

The smile on her face as she heard his decision had made his heart leap because of her bright smile. It also had confirmed that he choose the right decision for him and the twins. Only time could tell if they made the right decision but Shen Yi hoped that it was for the better.

Lu Xinyi then proceeded on how could they raise the twins as their own and told him how could he be a great father for the children. Somewhere in the middle of her rambling, she took his hand on hers and twined their fingers together. He looked up on her face, seeing how happy she was. Warmth bloomed with him that he couldn’t keep the words at himself any longer.

“I love you,”

It was really funny how fast Lu Xinyi shut her mouth when she heard him.

“What did you say?” she whispered.

Shen Yi hadn’t intended to tell her now. He was planning to propose to her for the second time once she passes her exams at Silver Leaf but the words came out from him naturally.

“I said I love you,” he repeated.

Lu Xinyi’s breath caught, her eyes wide as she stared at his face trying to see if he was lying. She threw her arms around his shoulders and placed her forehead against his.

“You love me?” she asked again. Lu Xinyi knew that he deeply cares for her but hearing him say the words had made her feel secure and loved.

“Of course, I do.”

Shen Yi gently kissed her. She slowly kissed her back as her tears ran down her cheeks. Her eyes closed in relief, letting his acknowledgment reach her heart and soul. Love is much more powerful than three simple words.

Words are words and though they, when spoken, can have power. Lu Xinyi knew hearing him say ‘I love you’ can be great, but knowing it is so much more important. Actions mean a lot to her but words mean just as much. She definitely wanted to hear it from his lips and now that Shen Yi said it Lu Xinyi felt better and happier with him in her arms.
