n“Why are you here?” Shen Yi asked with contempt. He’d been thinking why his little brother decided to come to his place unannounced. His mood turned soured as he watched his brother lick the traces of eclair on his fingers. What a great way to irritate him!
n“Grammie is coming back soon.” Shen Xue replied nonchalantly. The smile on his face vanished as he regards his older brother. They both know what it could mean.
n“And you’re here because?”
n“It’s your fault that you offended the Xia family by ignoring their young miss. Why should I suffer because of it?” Shen Xue crossed his arm and lean to the counter. The scent of the seared meat Lu Xinyi left at the countertop teased his senses, making his mouth water.
nDamn, he just finished the cream puff and eclairs, why was his stomach rumbling again? He was still famished.-.
nRemembering Xia Yuhan, the woman who their father and grandmother set up for him to date during his cruise vacation, Shen Yi tried his best not to roll his eyes in annoyance.
n“I won’t let go of Lu Xinyi for something as trivial as that.” Shen Yi stated.
n“Are you worried that Dad will not accept Lu Xinyi because she’s a commoner?” Shen Xue frowned as he realized that Lu Xinyi may bring problems to their family.
nShen Yi walked towards the fridge and checked the dessert he set aside before he started working. Just as what he had expected there were missing cream puffs and eclairs on his plate. Goddamn Shen Xue, he will kill him or much better wouldn’t make his stay comfortable in his place.
n“Lu Xinyi isn’t a commoner. She’s a granddaughter from the Sun family.” Shen Yi declared. “And could you please stop taking foods that don’t belong to you!” he growled.
n“What are you talking about?! It was your wife who gave them to me! And what did you just say? She was from the Sun family?!” Shen Xue shouted as he tried to avoid the empty plate Shen Yi threw from the countertop. The plate broke loudly once it hit the wall behind him.
n“Holy sh*t! Are you trying to kill me?!” Shen Xue fell on the floor. His butt aching from the sudden impact it received.
n“You heard what I said.”
n“But Uncle died because of that family.” Shen Xue’s expression was dejected. He really did like Lu Xinyi for his brother but with her being connected to the family that was responsible to their Uncle’s death, Shen Xue was baffled as he stood back on his feet with the support of the chair near him.
n“Our marriage has nothing to do on what happened to the past.” Shen Yi sat down and clasped both of his hand on top of the dining table. His piercing eyes fixated to his younger brother with all seriousness.
n“Uncle died protecting the woman he loved. At first, I thought it was ridiculous and illogical but Lu Xinyi was able to change my mind.”
n“Then why did you marry her knowing she will bring problems? Grammie will be mad at you.”
nShen Yi collected his thoughts, trying to come up with an acceptable answer. True, at first he only married her to spite the Sun family for what happened to their Uncle but as he spends more time with his little wife, he grew fond of her.
nLu Xinyi talked about revenge but he was aware that she wasn’t capable of doing it. Her hatred for the Sun family might be as intense on what the Shens had.
n“I married her because she’s mine to protect.” Shen Yi responded. Damn the consequences, he wouldn’t leave Lu Xinyi even if he had to fight tooth and nail to protect her. “And Grammie would have to understand my choices.”
n“Damn, do you really have to complicate things?’ Shen Xue felt that he was being torn in two directions. On one hand, he wanted to help his brother to protect Lu Xinyi on the other hand, he didn’t want to keep secrets from their family.
n“Xue, I’m a risk taker and I always follow my instincts.”
n“That instincts will kill you.”
nShen Yi’s eyes narrowed slightly.
n“And I care because?” he asked.
n“Are you sure it’s worth it?” Shen Xue grunted in frustration. This had to be the first time his brother care for a woman and not about their business.
n“Let me make myself perfectly clear. Lu Xinyi has nothing to do with the sins of the Sun family, No one should pry on our private matters. Only after meeting her I did realize how should I live my life.”
n
